What I got up to at the LUSH York reopening event

LUSH is one of those brands that I’ve dabbled with but never really fully immersed myself in. I have to admit that I’m sometimes put off going into the stores by the strong scent that comes wafting out of the doors, and I’m not really a bath bomb fan either, which is kind of LUSH’s big thing. However I have read great reviews of loads of their products and they have great ethics when it comes to animal testing and using natural products – last year I reviewed a LUSH fresh facemask, Cosmetic Warrior, and it’s innovations like this that are totally different and where LUSH really stands out from its competitors.
A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the big reopening event of the LUSH store in York. The store had been closed for a few weeks while it was being refurbished and I was very excited to see the result.
We were welcomed to the store with drinks and a welcome speech from the store manager. We were then introduced to the rest of the LUSH crew, who took it in turns to show us some of the newly released and hero products including Scrubee, a cute bee-shaped solid body butter for use in the shower and the unassuming but extremely moisturising Butterball bath bomb.
We were given a demonstration of the new Yellow Submarine and Metamorphosis bath bombs, and then we were allowed to try the Gourmet Soap range. I really liked the Olive Tree soap as it’s SLS-free and had a subtle scent of fresh green grass on a Spring morning.
Another of the feature products was Sleepy Body Lotion, recently launched on 9th June 2017, and we all got a sample of this to take away in our goody bags too. Made with lavender flower and organic cocoa butter this creamy lotion has a gentle fragrance to help induce sleep. I know that lavender isn’t for everyone, but I really like it.
It was great to meet up with fellow blogger Laura from Laura Knows Lifestyle, we spent quite a bit of time over by the fresh facemask counter (also known as the fish counter!) trying out the different masks with help from LUSH’s Ellie who was so lovely and extremely helpful. I decided to treat myself to Mask Of Magnaminty which I’ve already used three times, it’s perfect for my combination skin and I’ve had far less spots since I tried it. Plus it’s paraben free and it smells a LITTLE bit like After Eights. If you fancy a laugh check out my Twitter post here which shows a photo of me with a green face!
We were all sent home with a great goodie bag of LUSH products, including new bath bombs psychedelic Yellow Submarine and ethereal Metamorphosis, plus a tub of Sleepy Body Lotion and a bottle of edible toothpaste/mouthwash tabs which I think are a great idea.
If you’re in York during the next few weeks I’d highly recommend checking out the new look LUSH store. The dark wood shelves and matt blackboard walls provide the perfect backdrop for the rainbow assortment of products and the new layout really draws you in. I’m definitely going to be spending more time in LUSH, I’m already deciding which fresh facemask to try after my Mask Of Magnaminty runs out and I’d like to try some more of their SLS-free soaps.
