Manuka Doctor Apirefine Lip Enhancer Review

Manuka Doctor is a brand that I’ve only recently started to learn about, having reviewed their ApiClear Purifying Facial Peel a few weeks ago. I was given this ApiRefine Lip Enhancer to try out by one of their representatives at The City Girls blogger event that I attended recently in Leeds, and there was quite a buzz around it given the current trend for pouty lips.

Manuka Doctor Lip Enhancer is a lip plumper containing Purified Bee Venom and Manuka Honey to help encourage natural collagen formation in the lips, and has been clinically proven to increase lip volume in as little as 5 minutes.

The product itself is a milky coloured gel that you apply to your lips just like you would with any other lip balm. Not only does it aim to plump the lips but it also moisturises them, although I was disappointed to read that the main ingredient is Paraffinum Liquidum – sometimes known as Mineral Oil or Liquid Paraffin – which is a by-product of gasoline production and something that is not considered as very natural.

As soon as you apply the ApiRefine Lip Enhancer to your lips you can feel a strong tingling sensation – a bit like if you had got chilli oil on your lips! – and a minty peppermint taste, and I think it’s this tingling that instantly stimulates the lips causing them to plump up.

Manuka Doctor Apirefine Lip Before & After

To be honest I’m not entirely sure if it has much effect on my lips or not, above is an image showing before and five minutes after applying the Lip Enhancer and there doesn’t seem to be much difference other than a bit of an oily sheen in the lower image. I think perhaps maybe the very edge of the lip line does appear to have plumped slightly, but if you’re expecting a trout pout then you might be disappointed.

I’m not entirely sure if I’d buy this product. It works OK as a lip moisturiser but I’d much rather use something made with more natural ingredients instead of the Mineral Oil, and as for the plumping effect it doesn’t really have the desired effect on me.

Manuka Doctor recommend you do a small patch test on your skin before you use this product, and do not use if you have an allergy to bee stings.

ApiRefine Lip Enhancer is usually priced at £14.99 for 15ml, but Manuka Doctor are currently offering it for just 99p plus £3.50 P&P so if you want to try it now is the time!
