W7 The Fixer Face Spray & Captain Matte Foundation Review

I’ve got another review of products from budget beauty specialists W7 for you today, it’s Captain Matte Foundation and The Fixer Face Spray. W7 was created in 2002 and now boasts over 500 products, unfortunately they’re not very often readily available on the high street and you may sometimes need to resort to Ebay or Amazon to track them down.

I recently created a Neon Chevron French Mani look for Summer using two of W7’s nail polishes, and I was quite impressed with the products.

W7 Captain Matte Foundation

Captain Matte Foundation – despite the cheesy name this is a rather good matte finish foundation. I was sent the True Beige shade which is far too dark for my pale skin, but in the interests of beauty blogging I did try it out and I loved it! It gives a perfect velvety matte finish and covers blemishes and uneven skintone without being too thick. I applied it using my Bobbi Brown Foundation Brush but I think it would also apply well using a make-up sponge, I then used Clinique Blended Face Powder to set the foundation, and together they looked divine.

I’m now on the lookout for a paler shade of Captain Matte Foundation. I’ve been told that the palest shade is called Rich Tan… I think W7 need to get their shade names sorted out as I would have assumed that Rich Tan would be a darker colour! I’m struggling to find any swatch images anywhere of the different shades (there are 5 colours available) so if anyone sees one anywhere just let me know!

I would definitely wear this Captain Matte Foundation, I think it’s really lovely. Probably more of an Autumn/Winter foundation for me as I like to wear something fairly light and sheer in Summer – usually a tinted moisturiser – but this is perfect for when I want more coverage.

W7 The Fixer Face Spray

The Fixer Face Spray – this is a face spray that helps to set make-up, not the sort of product that I would normally choose to use but in the hot weather recently my make-up has been sliding off my face so I was rather hopeful that this would sort out the problem.

The Fixer should be sprayed over the face after make-up has been applied, unfortunately it comes out as more of a squirt than a spray and it was rather difficult to get an even spritz all over my face. It has a fresh cucumbery scent, but it also tastes rather unpleasant so try to avoid the lip area! Once applied it dries quite quickly.

I’ve used this a few times over the past couple of weeks and I have to admit that it does the job! After 10 hours my make-up is pretty much still where it was applied, with the exception of where my sunglasses touch my nose. I’m still not really keen on this type of product – spraying my face with a liquid after applying my make-up feels kind of counter intuitive – but for really hot days, or particularly long days, then The Fixer certainly does the job.

W7 The Fixer Face Spray & Captain Matte Foundation

Overall I’d say that this is a good duo of products, my favourite of course is the Captain Matte Foundation – I’ll be buying this in a paler shade. W7 products are great value too, and the packaging reminds me a bit of 1990s Rimmel.

W7 Captain Matte Foundation 30g is available from £2.99, from Amazon.

W7 The Fixer Face Spray 18ml is priced at just £2.72, from Tesco Direct.

  1. Never heard of this brand! Too bad the spray doesn’t apply better maybe try re-homing it? And using the too dark foundation as a subtle liquid contour?

    • I love the idea of using the foundation as a liquid contour, I’ll definitely try this out! xx
