W7 Captain Matte Foundation in Rich Tan Review

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend may remember that I reviewed Captain Matte Foundation from budget make-up brand W7 last Summer. I really liked the coverage and the texture but the True Beige shade was far too dark for my pale skin and I’ve been tracking down a paler shade ever since.

I finally managed to find a shop in York that stocks Captain Matte so that I could try out the testers and work out which was the palest shade, and ironically it’s a shade called Rich Tan! I’ve swatched it in the image below and not blended it so you can see the shade, it’s not a porcelain shade but it is quite pale with a very light tan.

Captain Matte Foundation gives a perfect velvety matte finish and covers blemishes and uneven skintone without being too thick – if you have fairly clear skin you don’t really need to use a concealer with this foundation. I’ve been applying it using my fingers but it applies just as well using a brush or a sponge. It does dry quite quickly so it’s best to concentrate on one area of the face, e.g. the chin, and apply and blend, then move on to the next area. I use Clinique Blended Face Powder to set the foundation (although with it having a matte finish you could leave out powder all together if you prefer) and together they look divine.

Here’s what W7 Captain Matte Foundation in Rich Tan looks like blended…

I really love Captain Matte Foundation, it lives up to any of the more expensive premium foundations in my eyes and you can’t beat it on price either.

The pointed nozzle makes it really easy to dispense just the right amount too, I usually squirt a little onto the back of one hand then apply it with the fingers of the other hand.

There are 5 shades of Captain Matte Foundation available but some of the darker ones are quite orangey.

W7 Captain Matte Foundation in Rich Tan is usually priced at around £6 for 30g, but you can get it from Amazon for just £2.90.

Amazon is great for a lot of W7 make-up, check out this In The Buff Eyeshadow Palette for just £5.99 (an Urban Decay Naked dupe) or this Honolulu Bronzer for just £3.94 (a Benefit dupe).
