Urbanveda skincare – what’s your dosha?

I love any kind of skincare that’s a bit different to the norm, and that’s why I love Urbanveda products. Not only are they formulated using natural ingredients, cruelty free and contain no parabens or sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), but they have been developed around the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is the traditional Hindu system of medicine which is based on the idea of balance between all of the bodily systems.
Ayurveda states there are three main body types, known as ‘doshas’. These are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These doshas express everything about us from our skin type and physical characteristics, to our health and personality traits.
Urvanveda has developed four different colour-coded collections of skincare products in synergy with Ayurvedic principles to target the primary skincare requirements of the three doshas. The main concept being to maintain your dosha’s natural balance and help keep skin healthy.
I have been trying out three skincare products, two from the Soothing ‘Pitta’ range and one from the Purifying ‘Kapha’ range…
Soothing Clarifying Night Cream* – this is a rich night time moisturiser that aims to plump, renew and repair your skin overnight whilst you sleep. The ingredients include Aloe Vera to help hydrate dry, rough and inflamed skin, plus Sandalwood, Myrrh, Rosemary and Clove which give the Night Cream a lovely, spicy manly scent.
The cream is white and quite thick, and it feels cooling and soothing when you apply it to the skin. I’ve been applying it quite sparingly as my chin and nose are quite oily and I think if I apply too much it would exacerbate the problem, but it works really well on my drier cheeks and forehead.
Soothing Clarifying Night Cream is part of the orange-coloured Soothing range for those with a Pitta dosha (in particular those with sensitive or stressed skin).
Soothing Body Wash* – this is an easy-to-use shower gel containing vitamins and antioxidant-rich extracts that help support skin’s hydration levels and preserve its natural moisture balance. It also contains similar essential oils to the Night Cream, as well as Rosa Damascena Flower Extract.
The product itself is a milky-white coloured runny gel and it has a lovely spicy Sandalwood scent. The fragrance is quite masculine and it would make a great shower gel for a man as well as for a woman.
Despite being SLS-free it lathers really easily but still feels gentle on the skin. The only downside is that as it’s quite runny you have to make sure none escapes while you’re opening and closing the lid!
Again, Soothing Body Wash is part of the orange-coloured Soothing range for those with a Pitta dosha.
Purifying Hydrating Toner* – this is a really nice refreshing toner and it makes my skin feel really cool, fresh and clean. I’ve already reviewed the Purifying Hydrating Toner around a year ago, so rather than repeating it all in this post you can read my full review here.
This product is part of the green-coloured Purifying range, aimed at those with a Kapha dosha (particularly those with normal or oily skins).
