The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #7

Welcome to the seventh episode of ‘The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick’! I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’.
Today I am reviewing Longlasting Lipstick in 08 Colour Crush from Essence. Essence is a budget make-up brand that has only recently been launched in the UK in Wilkinsons stores, you might want to read my recent post about the UK launch of Essence Make-Up.
The black bullet tube is simple and sleek and has a coloured pink band around the centre that matches the colour of the lipstick. I think that for a budget lipstick this one looks really good!
Colour Crush (08) is a very intense mid-pink colour with a fairly matt finish – in fact it’s so bright that I was wearing it yesterday to my friend’s house and she said she could see my lipstick through the frosted glass on the front door when I arrived! So if you’re a bit of a shrinking violet and like your lipstick nude and natural then it’s probably not for you, but if you love vibrant in-your-face lip shades then it’s definitely one you should try. This Longlasting Lipstick from Essence applies to the lips nicely – though I would recommend using a lip brush as it’s quite matt to get a full even coverage. It has an unusual old-fashioned fragrance/taste that reminds me of my very first ever lipstick, I’m not too keen on this and I think it would be much nicer if it had a fruity or vanilla fragrance.
The image above shows Longlasting Lipstick in Colour Crush on my lips, you can see how bright it is. I have lined my lips with Helen E Waterproof Protective Lip Liner in Shade 4. When I’m wearing this lip shade I keep my eyes quite plain – just a smudge of black eyeliner and a couple of coats of mascara – so that all of the focus is on the lips.
Probably the best thing about this Longlasting Lipstick is that it lives up to it’s name – it really is long lasting! I applied it yesterday morning and only needed to touch up my lipstick once in about 5 hours while I was out – you could still see the bright pink colour in the evening when I cleansed my face before bed. So if you like your lipstick to be drink-proof, food-proof and kiss-proof then I would definitely recommend checking out this brand.
I really like the little ‘e’ that has been imprinted into the lipstick, I think this gives it a more premium feel and it’s not something I’d normally expect from a budget make-up brand.
So is this my perfect pink lipstick?……. it’s probably not the sort of lipstick I would have generally bought as it’s so bright but I’ve found that I really like it, plus it’s such great value. However, it is far too bright and matt to be my perfect pink lipstick – I love lipsticks that are sheer and glossy and that give a much more natural look (I would prefer it with a better fragrance too). I will be wearing this lipstick a lot this Summer, however my hunt for the perfect pink lipstick goes on….
Longlasting Lipstick in Colour Crush 08 is priced at £2.30 and it can be purchased from Wilkinsons. There are 12 other shades available.
