Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick 101 Kate Moss Review

Welcome to the sixth episode of ‘The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick’! I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick 101 Kate Moss

Today I am reviewing Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss in Shade 101 from Rimmel London. I’ve not actually used a lot of Rimmel products recently despite them being one of my favourite brands when I was a teenager.

The red bullet tube is simple and has Kate Moss’ signature printed in black on the lid. I don’t really feel that Rimmel products look very premium, but I do find that the packaging is well made and sturdy and they are always good value for money.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick 101 Kate Moss Shade

Shade 101 is a natural dusky rose pink colour with a creamy matt finish, and it applies to the lips really nicely – either straight from the tube or using a lip brush. It does have quite a strong fragrance – I can’t quite make out whether it is floral or fruity, I wasn’t keen on it at first but it is growing on me a bit now.

I’m not really keen when brands give their lipsticks numbers rather than names, I think it’s harder to remember to which shade you use… everyone remember’s Rimmel’s popular Heather Shimmer shade from the 90s, but who will remember shade 101?

The image above shows Lasting Finish Matte in Shade 101 on my lips and you can see that it gives a dense matt bright rose pink colour. I have lined my lips with Helen E Waterproof Protective Lip Liner in Shade 4 (you can read my review of that here). It looks particularly good worn with a grey smokey eye and lots of black eyeliner.

So is this my perfect pink lipstick?……. I do really love it, it’s so bright and vibrant without being over the top, and the shade really suits my paler skintone. However, it is a bit too matt to be my perfect pink lipstick – I love lipsticks that are sheer and glossy and this just looks a bit too dull (I would prefer it with a little bit less fragrance too). I will be wearing this lipstick a lot, however my hunt for the perfect pink lipstick goes on….

Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss in Shade 101 is priced at £5.49 and it can be purchased from Boots. There are 5 shades available.

  6. oh I love the look of this. Think Ill have to pop into Boots and pick it up

  7. I love the Kate Moss range from Rimmel. Rimmel lipsticks are my favourite of the cheap brands and these are a bargain. I have this shade too, but as I love a bright lip this is a bit too pale for my liking. But it is nice to wear at work when you want to tone it down a bit. Lasts a long time too.
