The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #2

I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’.
This is the second lipstick that I have tested during my hunt, MUA Makeup Academy Lipstick in ‘Shade 5’. This is a very pale shimmery pink colour, remarkable in the fact that it costs £1…. yes, you read that correctly, it costs just £1! I didn’t have very high hopes for this lipstick given it’s low price but I was very pleasantly surprised. Shade 5 is surprisingly creamy, applies really nicely from the tube and has a lovely vanilla scent – it certainly doesn’t feel like a budget product. It does have a lot of shimmer which highlights any creases or dry patches on the lips, so as with any shimmery lip product it is best applied to freshly exfoliated lips.
I was very surprised at how good Makeup Academy Lipstick in Shade 5 is given it’s price and I will definitely be wearing it out and about. The sleek black tube wouldn’t look out of place in a cosmetic purse filled with Chanel and Mac products either. It would be nice if MUA had given this product a name rather than a number, but that’s the only let down with this budget lipstick. It was quite difficult to take the swatch photo above of the MUA lipstick on my arm as the pink colour is so pale it doesn’t show up very well but you can see the shimmer quite distinctly. I used to regularly use a Mac Lustre Lipstick called ‘Politely Pink’ and this is a really close match (but of course this is £13 cheaper than a Mac lipstick).
Unfortunately MUA Lipstick in Shade 5 isn’t my perfect pink lipstick as it doesn’t define ‘My Lips But Better’ – it is too pale and shimmery for that – but I will definitely be trying out the other 14 colours in this range, in fact I could try them all and still have spent less than the price of one Chanel lipstick!
MUA Makeup Academy Lipstick is priced at £1 (did I mention that before?) and can be purchased from MUAStore and Superdrug stores. I was pleased to read recently that none of MUA’s products are tested on animals, another reason to purchase this lipstick guilt-free.
I will be reviewing a MUA Makeup Academy Blusher and a MUA Makeup Academy Eyeshadow Palette in a few days time, keep an eye on Beauty Best Friend for those.

Thanks Ashley! It applies so well out of the tube too, no need for a lip brush! xx
