The City Girls Blogger Event, Leeds

I was lucky enough to be invited to #TheCityGirls blogger event which was held last Saturday afternoon at The Liquorist, a new cocktail bar that has recently opened on Greek Street in Leeds. The City Girls is a new venture that has recently been set up by bloggers Lorna and Holly-Lucy, organising blogger events in cities across the country, bringing bloggers and brands together and having fun at the same time. This was the second event that the girls have organised (the first was in Sheffield a few months ago) and they’d done such an amazing job getting lots of brands on board as well as a local charity.
After arriving at The Liquorist and treating ourselves to fantastic cocktails the bloggers were given a brief introduction to the day by Lorna & Holly-Lucy. Then followed a really moving and honest talk by Suzie from Leeds Women’s Aid, a charity that helps protect women and children in Leeds from the damage that domestic violence can inflict on their lives. There was to be a raffle held to raise money for the charity, and the brands had been so generous with their donations of prizes:
In total the raffle made £480 for Leeds Women’s Aid and I was fortunate enough to win this fashionable pair of vintage style glass jar mugs from Vintage Kitchen that had been donated by Holly-Lucy’s very own blog Tea and Blush. I’m looking forward to sipping from them whilst sat out in the garden in sun!
After buying my raffle tickets I continued to explore all of the brands that had come along to showcase their products. These included The Body Shop who were demonstrating their Wild Argan Oil Body Lotion (it’s amazing and creamy by the way!) and their ‘Drops of Youth’ skincare range which helps prevent early ageing of the skin.
I also had a chat with Ben from Manuka Doctor, a skincare range that utilises unique ingredients that include Manuka Honey and Bee Venom (I recently reviewed their Apiclear Purifying Facial Peel) and he gave me a full size Manuka Doctor Apirefine Lip Enhancer to try so I’ll be reviewing that soon!
One of my favourite stops was Nails By Ivy, super-talented Leeds-based nail artist Sophie Ivy Louise Kemp had come along to demonstrate her skills and give us all City Girls themed nails! As I already had nail varnish on my nails she painted me the sparkle and black chevron feature nail design that you can see as part of the collage of images above. If you live in Leeds and want nail art creating for a special occasion then I urge you to get in touch with Sophie, she’s amazing and her designs were so detailed! Check out some of her designs on Instagram at @Nails_By_Ivy.
Some of the other brands that we got to try out on the day were super-cute mini candles from Twig & Dot, homewares from Oates & Co, cute hand drawn stationery from Plewsy, bottles of Voss water, bright crimson red nail polish from Angelica and loads more.
Throughout the afternoon there were also make-up demonstrations by a Benefit make-up artist, and I had my eyeliner professionally painted using the new blur coloured They’re Real Push-Up Eyeliner. I was quite impressed, this was a product that I’d previously avoided due to the hype but it looked really great and the blue colour was very understated and subtle.
The afternoon was really enjoyable and it was great to get to know other local bloggers, in particular Donna from Midlife Crisis Beauty Addict and Laura from Inside Laura’s Head. Plus occasionally have a sit down and enjoy one of the specially designed #TheCityGirls cupcakes….
All of the bloggers at the event were sent home with a goody bag that was jam-packed with… well… goodies! Here’s my collection of all of the products I got to take away with me…
I feel extremely privileged to get to try out all of these brands for free, but of course now is where the hard work starts as I will give a lot of these products, particularly the beauty items, thorough testing and a review of their own here on Beauty Best Friend.
Whilst many of the items were beauty products there was also a selection of homeware products that I particularly loved, and I’m going to mention each one briefly here:
I’ve already mentioned my Vintage Style Glass Jar Mugs that I won in the raffle.
Next up is a cute hand-illustrated card and envelope from Plewsy, this is so cute and I love stationery.
My mini candle from Twig & Dot is Marshmallow, Vanilla & Cream flavour – I love sweet scented candles, although this one is almost too cute to use, I might put it on display on my dressing table for a while before actually lighting it! I’d love to review some more of their candles, a couple of their larger ones were given away as raffle prizes, and I think the white and grey jars just look so contemporary and pretty.
The glass candle holder is from homeware brand Oates and Co, and I think it’s just so simple and stylish. Funnily enough on the morning of the event my sister gave me a mini votive candle from Yankee Candle and it’s just the right size to fit inside this candle holder, so it’s now taking pride of place on the hearth in my living room. Oates and Co is a UK based website selling gorgeous, unique and affordable homewares, and they have some stunning products available.
The Can’t Sleep Colouring Book came courtesy of Mom Books. Adult colouring books are the latest trend and this one has been designed to help soothe stress-related problems including insomnia (which I often suffer from, so I’ll be keeping this by the bed!).
Last but not least I just LOVE these little wooden drawers from The Works. The idea is that you paint and decorate them yourself, and being crafty I’ve already got lots of ideas to jazz them up!
Finally I was also given a Pet Angel pet brush from Tangle Angel, for my cat, and I just had to show you this photo of Claude demonstrating it after I got home! He’s a British Shorthair with very thick tangly fur and being brushed is his favourite thing ever! So a big thank you ‘Meow’ from Claude for his brush!
I could go on and on with my post, but overall The City Girls blogger event was such an enjoyable day! A big thank you is owed to Holly-Lucy and Lorna for all the hard work they put in to the event, and to the staff at The Liquorist who were really friendly and helpful.
As I’ve already mentioned a lot of the beauty products that I picked up on the day will get their own reviews here on my Beauty Best Friend blog, so keep an eye out for those!
All I can say is that I hope I’m lucky enough to be invited to another The City Girls event in the future….
