This week The Body Shop® have launched the new Oils Of Life range, a collection of skincare products that all contain a blend of three natural oils – black cumin seed oil, rosehip seed oil and camellia seed oil – known for their supreme revitalising and repairing properties on skin.
I’ve been lucky enough to try out a selection of the Oils Of Life products, using them for the past week, and I’ve been pretty impressed so far. Here’s what I think…
The Body Shop® Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Essence Lotion – this is a bi-phase lotion which means that it contains both oil and water which separate out when it has been left to stand. I think the proportion of oil to water is fairly small though as the oil only takes up a centimetre or so of space at the top of the bottle.
This lotion should be used a bit like a toner, you use it on a cotton wool pad after cleansing to remove the last traces of dirt and cleanser, but it’s just that bit more nourishing than a regular toner as it contains some oil.
The Intensely Revitalising Essence Lotion has a lovely warm spicy scent, as do all of the Oils Of Life skincare products.
The Body Shop® Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil – I love a good facial oil! This one, which contains 99% oils of natural origin, should be used as a skin treatment instead of a serum, in between toning and moisturising. It has the same intense spicy fragrance as the lotion, only even stronger, and it’s perfect to use on a cold Autumn or Winter evening.
The Body Shop® recommend that you apply 1-2 drops of this Facial Oil then massage it into the skin, I have found that I need around 4 drops to cover my face although my skin is slightly dehydrated so this may be why. The oil aims to reduce the signs of ageing and is suitable for any age.
I love the orange and gold colour graduated bottle, the Autumnal colours are really stunning, plus it’s a good size 30ml bottle for a facial oil too.
The Body Shop® Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Cream – the final product that I’ve been testing is this rich moisturising cream which can be used morning and night. It’s probably a bit thicker than I’d normally use for daytime (and I prefer to use a moisturiser with an SPF in too) but it makes a great night cream and it feels SO silky when you apply it to the skin. Plus you can smell the lovely rich spicy scent whilst you’re lying in bed!
As with the other products in the range the Revitalising Cream helps to reduce the signs of ageing, minimising the appearance of wrinkles and helping the skin to feel supple.
All three of the Oils Of Life products that I ‘ve been testing contain the same three seed oils, and are suitable for all skin types. There is also a Gel Cream available which sounds lighter than the regular Revitalising Cream, and it’s aimed at those with an oily skin.
As well as the skincare products the Oils Of Life collection also includes this (rather rude looking!) Twin-Ball Revitalising Facial Massager! The silver balls rotate as you roll them across your face, helping to improve circulation and improve skin tone. I have to admit this isn’t the sort of tool I’d normally use but I have had a go with it and it’s good fun! The balls feel really cooling and it feels nice when massaged across the forehead, I think it would be good at reducing headaches.
It works quite well after the Facial Oil has been applied, gently massaging the oil into the skin. The are some directions for using it inside the lid of the box…
I really like all of these Oils Of Life products, the feel light and are easily absorbed by the skin, and contrary to some myths using oils on the skin doesn’t make skin oily. I haven’t been using the products for long enough yet to see the long term benefits of the oils (The Body Shop® recommends using them for at least 4 weeks to see visible results) but if my first impressions are anything to go by then these are great products.
I think my favourite product is the Facial Oil, I love the warming qualities that it has and it smells divine. I’m not sure I’d generally use all three of the products at the same time though, going forward I’ll probably just use the Cream at night, and will use the Facial Oil two or three times a week as a treatment after a face mask.
If you fancy treating yourself the Intensely Revitalising Essence Lotion 160ml is priced at £16, the amazing Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil starts at £30 for 30ml and the Intensely Revitalising Cream is £26 for a 50ml pot. If you fancy a massage then the Twin-Ball Revitalising Facial Massager is £16.
