Gentle skincare for you and your baby from Weleda

Gentle skincare for you and your baby from Weleda

So I’m very careful about what I use on a regular basis on my skin, and I’m even more careful about what I use on my baby daughter. OK, so she’s not really a baby any more (she’s pretty much a toddler at 16 months old) but ever since she was born I’ve checked the ingredients of all the products that I’ve used in her bath. For a long time we exclusively used Burt’s Bees products from their Baby Bee range which are great for young skin, but now I’m starting to branch out and try other products. I was sent this Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash from Weleda to try out, and the thing that got me most excited is that it doesn’t contain sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) which is the ingredient that causes a shampoo, shower gel or soap to lather. Instead of SLS this body wash uses coconut and sugar plant-based cleansers. SLS has always caused me a problem, making my skin dry and my scalp...

Say “Yes” to carrots!

Say “Yes” to carrots!

Just a quick review today to talk about these haircare and bodycare products from Yes to… Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend will know that I’m always looking out for new natural skincare and bodycare ranges as I’m passionate about products that don’t contain lots of nasty chemicals. There are 6 collections, each involves saying ‘Yes to’ a different fruit or vegetable. The products I’ve been trying out are Yes to Grapefruit Rejuvenating Body Wash* and Yes to Carrots Nourishing Shampoo and Pampering Conditioner*. Yes to Grapefruit Rejuvenating Body Wash – the grapefruit range is aimed at those with uneven or dull skintone. This pearlised white shower gel has a gentle zingy grapefruit scent to wake you up in the morning and exfoliating fruit acids help to remove dead skin cells leaving your skin glowing and...

Urbanveda skincare – what’s your dosha?

Urbanveda skincare – what’s your dosha?

I love any kind of skincare that’s a bit different to the norm, and that’s why I love Urbanveda products. Not only are they formulated using natural ingredients, cruelty free and contain no parabens or sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), but they have been developed around the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is the traditional Hindu system of medicine which is based on the idea of balance between all of the bodily systems. Ayurveda states there are three main body types, known as ‘doshas’. These are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These doshas express everything about us from our skin type and physical characteristics, to our health and personality traits. Urvanveda has developed four different colour-coded collections of skincare products in synergy with Ayurvedic principles to target the primary skincare requirements of the three doshas. The main concept being to maintain your dosha’s natural balance and help keep skin healthy. I have been trying out three skincare products, two from the Soothing ‘Pitta’ range and one from the Purifying ‘Kapha’ range… Soothing Clarifying Night Cream – this...

Natural skincare from MooGoo

Natural skincare from MooGoo

MooGoo is a brand that I first came across at The City Girls blogger event a couple of weeks ago in Leeds. MooGoo is an Australian natural skincare brand that was first made when the founder adapted a cream used in dairy farms to help a family member with a skin problem. Their products contain lots of natural oils and are not tested on animals – well, apart from the very first of their products that was created for cows! I was lucky enough to receive this Full Cream Moisturiser, Milk Wash sample and Dusty Girls Natural Mineral Lip Gloss in my goodie bag at the event and I’ve been testing them out… MooGoo Full Cream Moisturiser – what can I say, I love this product! Whilst the packaging looks a bit gimmicky with the cows on it, and the cardboard box has been designed to look like a milk carton, the contents are really great. Containing Sweet Almond Oil, Coconut Oil and Milk Protein which helps to increase...

Ted Baker – Fruity Floral Mint Bath & Body Collection

Ted Baker – Fruity Floral Mint Bath & Body Collection

My Ted Baker reviews are always popular, and today I have another one for you, it’s the Fruity Floral Mint Bath & Body Collection, I’ve been trying out the Body Wash* and Body Souffle*. Launched last month in April 2015 this is part of Ted Baker’s ‘Sugar Sweet’ collection, and the romantic floral print on the Body Wash tube was inspired by one of Ted’s floral fashion prints – in fact I saw some of the clothes in John Lewis at the weekend and they’re so pretty. Ted Baker Fruity Floral Mint Body Wash – this is my favourite of the two items because of its beautiful fragrance. Fruity Floral Mint has top notes of fruits and violets, and base notes of vanilla, patchouli and amber, the base notes really come through preventing the scent from becoming too floral. The Body Wash has quite a strong fragrance and it reminds me of being on holiday somewhere hot and exotic. The packaging looks so pretty too, the mint green tube with watercolour...

Ted Baker – W Eau De Toilette Gift Set

Ted Baker – W Eau De Toilette Gift Set

It’s such a shame that we’ve already had Mothers Day here in the UK, because this Ted Baker W Eau de Toilette Gift Set would make THE perfect gift for mum. Nestled inside the pretty pink gift box is a 30ml bottle of Ted Baker W Eau de Toilette, plus a matching Body Wash and Body Lotion. The rose and dragonfly design on the box, and the front of the two tubes, is really pretty and Summery. What’s more it’s super affordable, at less than £13 for the full set! I hadn’t tried any of Ted Baker’s fragrances before I tried W and I really love it. It’s quite strong at first, it reminds me a bit of a 1980s type of perfume where you got a huge hit of scent as soon as you sprayed it. I would describe it as quite a ‘green’ fragrance, notes include Lily Of The Valley, Bergamot and Vetiver, but there are a lot of floral notes in there too such as Freesia...

Flint Plus Flint – Skincare Range

Flint Plus Flint – Skincare Range

I was sent this selection of products, it’s the Flint Plus Flint (or Flint+Flint) new range of skincare. You may not have heard of Flint+Flint, they’re a UK-based family run business – founders Max and Adam have run a chain of cosmetic clinics across England for some time, and after recommending skincare products to their clients for the past 10 years decided to create their own. I really like the sleek, grey unisex packaging with the bright coloured crosses, the products look very different from anything else you’d see on the shelf. Once you open a box too, the corresponding colour greets you inside… So I was sent a selection of 4 Flint+Flint skincare products to try out, and here’s what I thought of them: Glycolic Cleanser* – this is a glycolic wash that uses 12% glycolic acid to gently exfoliate the skin and remove dead cells. You apply the gel to your face then leave for 2 minutes before rinsing off. The product is a clear gel with a...

Radox – Uplifting Pink Grapefruit & Basil Handwash

Radox – Uplifting Pink Grapefruit & Basil Handwash

Just a quick review for you today of Radox Uplifting Pink Grapefruit & Basil Handwash. I picked this up from the supermarket recently, to keep on the side of the sink in our bathroom. Pink grapefruit is one of my favourite scents (check out my reviews of Burt’s Bees Lip Balm with Pink Grapefruit and The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Eau de Toilette if you like the scent too!). The product itself is a transparent pinky coloured gel, it looks a really pretty colour in the bottle. The handwash lathers up really quickly but has quite a spicy fragrance rather than the usual sweet citrussy scent that I was expecting. I couldn’t pick out the basil in the fragrance either. This Radox handwash is pleasant but I have to say it’s not my favourite pink grapefruit beauty product that I’ve tried. Plus it contains sodium laureth sulfate – the ingredient which makes most soaping products lather – which can be quite harsh and I usually try to avoid it....
