Max Factor – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor – Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara

Max Factor is one of my go-to brands for mascara, for years I wore their 2000 Calorie Mascara before discovering False Lash Effect Mascara which then became my favourite. Max Factor mascaras are so simple and un-fancy, they do what they’re supposed to with a minimum of fuss, and this new Velvet Volume False Lash Effect Mascara* is no different. Velvet Volume is different because it’s an anti-brittle mousse formula containing natural beeswax so it doesn’t leave lashes feeling brittle and stiff. The wand has very short plastic bristles that are quite widely spaced and has been designed to catch every lash, no matter how short or fine. I’ve been using new Velvet Volume Mascara for a couple of weeks now and I really like it. It’s very black and I find it easy to coat all of my lashes using the plastic bristles. I do find however that I need to add a couple of coats in order to get the dense dramatic coverage that I like, otherwise my...

Collection – Volume Sensation Lipstick in Satin Bow

Collection – Volume Sensation Lipstick in Satin Bow

Whilst I was doing the weekly shop in Tesco a couple of weeks ago I picked up this Volume Sensation Lipstick from budget make-up experts Collection (formerly Collection 2000). The Volume Sensation range contains plumping ingredients which are supposed to make your lips look fuller. First, let me start with the packaging. I’m not actually too keen on the reddy-pink tube as I think it looks a bit cheap, but it certainly does look different to all of the other budget lipsticks that are out there, most of which have black tubes. The tube is quite thick and chunky and doesn’t feel flimsy at all, it’s good and strong and the twist function works well. I was looking for something creamy and nude so I went for the Satin Bow shade. It’s a peachy nude shade, with a warm tone – perfect for Spring. It’s quite sheer and it has the most amazing taste and scent of vanilla. The texture feels creamy on the lips, it feels much more...

Lancome – Hypnose Mascara vs Hypnose Star Mascara

Lancome – Hypnose Mascara vs Hypnose Star Mascara

Today I am going to do a comparison between 2 of Lancome’s bestselling black mascaras – Hypnose and Hypnose Star. The two mascaras pictures above are actually mini samples, but the main area that I want to focus on is the shape of the brushes. Firstly, I was really impressed with the formula of both of these mascaras (I suspect the formula is probably the same, or at least very similar). With a lot of mascaras, including Benefit’s star product They’re Real, I experience black smudging just under my eyebrows where the top of my upper lashes touch my skin, however I didn’t get this problem with either Hypnose or Hypnose Star. Lancome Hypnose Mascara has a unique PowerFull™ Brush which is made up of 1,000 sensor bristles and aims to build up volume. The brush does not taper to a point, rather it has more of a bulbous end and I found this useful to hold vertically and touch up the outer corners of my lashes and my...

Add volume to your hair with John Frieda styling products

Add volume to your hair with John Frieda styling products

I was recently asked to try out Luxurious Volume Blow Dry Lotion Root Booster and Luxurious Volume Blow-Out Spray from John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume range. The aim of these products is to make hair look visibly fuller, lift the roots and give the look and feel of more hair. I already have quite thick hair, but I find it difficult to get much volume into it as I usually straighten it and this can make it go a bit limp, so I was hoping for great things from these products. Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray aims to create natural volume by plumping fine hair from the root to the tip. You just spray a fine mist of the product throughout towel-dried hair, then blow dry as usual. John Frieda Fine To Full Blow-Out Spray is priced at £6.99 for 125ml at Boots. Blow Dry Lotion Root Booster helps create the perfect lift at the crown of the head by boosting volume at the roots. This product should also be...
