Nailed London – Gel Wear Nail Polishes

Nailed London – Gel Wear Nail Polishes

These are the lovely new Gel Wear polishes* from Nailed London, a new brand launched in September 2015 by Made In Chelsea’s fashion blogger Rosie Fortescue. OK so I have to admit I’m not really down with ‘MIC’ so when I first heard about these polishes I thought they might be a bit of a gimmick, but as soon as I received them I could see that they’re great quality and hopefully the brand is here to stay. There are 28 different shades to choose from, and 4 glitter top coats plus the Base Coat and clear Glossy Top Coat that give these colours their gel finish. The three shades that I’ve been using are: Stormy Violets – a shimmery metallic dusky blue shade that looks great dressed down with jeans Chica Bonita – a snow white that looks chic on its own, plus it provides the perfect matt background to bright nail art Citron-Ella – a zesty primrose yellow that will be perfect for Spring I’ve been wearing...

White & Glitter Nails

White & Glitter Nails

I purchased Barry M’s Matt White Nail Paint ages ago but thought it looked a bit stark worn on its own (it looks a little bit like you’ve painted your nails in Tipp-Ex if you don’t do it really neatly!). So I decided to pair it up with a glitter polish to create a vivid sparkly effect. I decided to use Diamond Arcade from Nails Inc, one of the most vibrant and sparkly glitter polishes that I’ve tried. Nails Inc called it a ‘Nail Jewellery Top Coat’ and when the light catches the glitter particles it really can look like you’re wearing jewellery on your nails! First I painted 2 coats of the Barry M Matt White Nail Paint over my nails and left to dry. It very opaque and works really well as a base colour – it would also work well as part of a French manicure or to create white accents in a nail art design. Then I painted a coat of the Nails Inc Diamond Arcade...

Crabtree & Evelyn – Nail Lacquer in Wisteria

Crabtree & Evelyn – Nail Lacquer in Wisteria

OK, so did anyone know that Crabtree & Evelyn did nail polish? No, me neither until I attended their Garden Celebration Blogger Event in York a few weeks ago, and I was lucky enough to receive this Nail Lacquer in Wisteria in my goody bag that evening so I wanted to share it with my readers. Crabtree & Evelyn offer 21 different shades of Nail Lacquer (all formulated without camphor, dibutyl phthalates, formaldehyde or toluene), plus a wide range of handcare products. Wisteria is a two-tone shade that looks dark blue in some lights and purple in others and it has a subtle silver shimmer to it. It dries with a bit of a dull finish and maybe looks a little old fashioned when compared to today’s current trend for glossy gel finishes, but you could add a couple of coats of clear polish over the top if you want more of a glossy shine. The brush is quite long and thin so you have to apply the polish...

Nailbox – the new nail polish subscription box

Nailbox – the new nail polish subscription box

The beauty world has been full of new beauty boxes for the past couple of years, some are really popular and some sink without a trace after a few months. It’s becoming quite a saturated market, but in April the first nail polish subscription beauty box, Nailbox, launched in the UK with fantastic results. I think a subscription box based around one particular aspect of beauty is a great idea, the majority of other beauty boxes contain a selection of skincare and make-up and it’s really nice to see something a bit different launching. I was lucky enough to be sent May’s Nailbox* to review. The products arrive in a rather ordinary brown corrugated cardboard box with the Nailbox logo on the side. It doesn’t look as glamorous as some of the other beauty boxes that are around (many have individually styled boxes, padded with tissue paper and ribbons) but actually as the contents are all that really matter I don’t think this is a problem. By saving money on...

Barry M – Strawberry Ice Cream Nail Paint

Barry M – Strawberry Ice Cream Nail Paint

I think this Barry M Nail Paint in Strawberry Ice Cream has just become one of my favourites! It’s such a pretty pink, perfect for Spring. The nail paint applies fairly thinly – in the image above I have applied two coats, and I think I might try adding a third to give a stronger colour – but on the plus side each thin coat dries really quickly. It is also quite glossy and doesn’t really need a top coat, although you could apply one if you wanted extra shine. It removes really easily from the nails too, just a couple of quick swipes with a cotton wool pad soaked in nail polish remover and it’s gone! Strawberry Ice Cream is a really pretty sugary pink colour, it’s so pretty and girly. It’s been around for ages, I think it’s one of Barry M’s original nail paint colours, but I’ve only just discovered it! I love the range of colours available from Barry M, there’s a shade of Nail Paint for every occasion, and...

Barry M – Glitter Nail Paint in Masquerade

Barry M – Glitter Nail Paint in Masquerade

This glittery beauty is Glitter Nail Paint in Masquerade from Barry M, and it was my nail paint of choice for New Years Eve. Now I’ve made no secret of the fact that I love Barry M Nail Paints, they’re so affordable and there are so many colour choices available – not to mention the array of different textures and special effects to choose from. Masquerade is a clear nail polish containing silver, purple and dark blue round glitter flecks, it’s a dark, moody glitter polish that’s perfect for Winter and parties. The glitter is really dense in this polish making it a perfect choice to wear on its own, however I chose to wear it over 2 coats of purple Zoya Odette nail polish to make the colour look more vibrant and to ensure that there weren’t any blank areas of nail showing through. (If you’re interested to read more about Zoya Nail Polishes, you might want to read my post about nail polish trend predictions for Spring Summer...

Purple Glitter Christmas Nails

Purple Glitter Christmas Nails

I created this Purple Glitter Christmas nail look all ready for the big day. I love warm berry nail colours in Winter and you can’t beat a bit of sparkle too for Christmas! The purple shade is Zoya Odette – a sultry orchid maroon cream – I predicted it’s going to be a popular shade next Spring/Summer in my London Fashion Week post that I published in September, but I think it’s also just as good as a Winter nail polish. Zoya offers a huge range of toxin-free nail polishes (there are over 300 shades to choose from) free of the top 5 toxins usually found in nail polishes – formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, dibutyl phthalate and camphor – that are thought to contribute to cancer and birth defects. I painted on 2 coats of Zoya Odette, it’s fairly pigmented and dark so you don’t need any more coats. You do need to apply it carefully though as any smudges really show up given that it’s such a dark shade. The glitter...

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Chanel’s iconic Rouge Noir nail colour before on Beauty Best Friend! It’s my favourite ever nail shade and one that I go back to time and time again. I particularly love wearing it in the Winter and at Christmas. Launched in 1994 the launch of this dark blood red shade sent women crazy trying to get their hands on it, and it was made even more famous when it was worn by Uma Thurman in the film Pulp Fiction. In its first year sales of Rouge Noir nail polish reached $1 million and a nail legend was born! I know that Chanel nail polishes sometimes get a hard rap from bloggers – they’re expensive and some people have a bad time with them chipping – but I don’t seem to have this problem with mine although I do always use a base coat and a top coat which will help. Rouge Noir looks best worn on its own on short nails – it’s...
