Being pregnant and having a new baby are stressful enough times without having to worry about stretch marks. I’ve recently given birth to a baby girl and despite religiously applying creams and butters to my tummy every night I have been left with a few small red stretch marks around my belly button. Thankfully there’s not many of them and they’re not too obvious, but it would be nice to get rid of them so that I can wear a bikini again. So what are stretch marks? Stretch marks are streaks or lines that appear on the skin and they’re caused by rapid expansion of the skin when the middle layer of skin (dermis) breaks in places, allowing the deeper layers to show through.
