Urbanveda skincare – what’s your dosha?

Urbanveda skincare – what’s your dosha?

I love any kind of skincare that’s a bit different to the norm, and that’s why I love Urbanveda products. Not only are they formulated using natural ingredients, cruelty free and contain no parabens or sodium laureth sulphate (SLS), but they have been developed around the principles of Ayurveda. Ayurveda is the traditional Hindu system of medicine which is based on the idea of balance between all of the bodily systems. Ayurveda states there are three main body types, known as ‘doshas’. These are called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. These doshas express everything about us from our skin type and physical characteristics, to our health and personality traits. Urvanveda has developed four different colour-coded collections of skincare products in synergy with Ayurvedic principles to target the primary skincare requirements of the three doshas. The main concept being to maintain your dosha’s natural balance and help keep skin healthy. I have been trying out three skincare products, two from the Soothing ‘Pitta’ range and one from the Purifying ‘Kapha’ range… Soothing Clarifying Night Cream – this...

KOREAN BEAUTY May Coop – Raw Sauce

KOREAN BEAUTY May Coop – Raw Sauce

This is my last Korean beauty special for a little while, I have been writing these as part of an initiative working with BNT News International, a global beauty/fashion/lifestyle and entertainment source based in Seoul, South Korea. I am helping BNT to promote a selection of new and exciting Korean beauty products to a UK audience, these are products that you probably won’t have seen before and some of them are really different and unique. The product that I am reviewing today is Raw Sauce* from May Coop. I think that ‘Raw Sauce’ is a very strange name for a beauty product, however being a Korean brand May Coop will possibly have translated this into English from Korean. Plus, once you know a bit more about the ingredients the name makes a bit more sense… Raw Sauce is a cross between a toner and a serum that you apply after cleansing and before moisturising. The main ingredient is Maple Tree Sap – apparently the molecules are smaller than water molecules and absorb...

Botanicals – Hydrating Mist With Rose & Camellia

Botanicals – Hydrating Mist With Rose & Camellia

Botanicals is one of my favourite skincare brands and I have previously reviewed a few of their products including Radiance Serum and Cleansing Melt. All of Botanicals’ skincare products are natural and organic, plus they aren’t tested on animals and are suitable for vegans. It quite often scares me when I read through the list of ingredients on many skincare products to see all the chemicals that are included and I imagine what these could be doing to my body (many of the chemicals included within regular products are preservatives, colourings and fragrances that don’t add any benefit to our skin). So I find it really refreshing and reassuring when I read the list of ingredients on a Botanicals product and I recognise so many of them as being natural. Hydrating Mist With Rose & Camellia is 100% organic and natural and is certified by The Soil Association. Its ingredients include Rose oil and Camellia Extract, and it’s suitable for all skin types but particularly dry or mature skins. Botanicals also...

Is Sebamed Clear Face skincare the answer for acne?

Is Sebamed Clear Face skincare the answer for acne?

I’d never heard of Sebamed when I was approached by them to see if I would try out some of their products. Their Clear Face collection is a range of products developed for acne prone skin, it reminds me of the sort of thing I would have used back when I was a teenager when there seemed to be loads of this sort of thing around (anyone remember Biactol!?). I was sent a Sebamed Clear Face 3-step skincare regime to try, consisting of Cleansing Bar, Deep Cleansing Facial Toner and Care Gel and I was asked to use them for a month to see what effect they had on my skin. I have combination skin with an oily chin and nose, and I am very prone to spots particularly on my chin, along my jawline and just under my cheekbones. The Clear Face range has been developed to restore skin’s pH level to 5.5 – that of a healthy skin. Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Bar – I just LOVE a...

Pure & Light Organic – Essential Floral Toner Review

Pure & Light Organic – Essential Floral Toner Review

I hadn’t heard of Pure & Light Organic before I tried this product, so I’ve done a bit of research. The brand was set up by Agnes Donazy over a decade ago when she started to develop extreme skin sensitivity due to reactions to chemicals, so she decided to set up her own natural skincare brand. Pure & Light Organic products are 100% natural and non-toxic, and never contain unnecessary ingredients. I have been testing out Essential Floral Toner, it’s a natural liquid toner that contains orange blossom, geranium and rosemary. Essential Floral Toner is packaged in a tall, thin silver tube with a spray nozzle. I quite like the packaging it looks quite premium, and the box comes packaged inside a white branded cardboard box. Essential Floral Toner is suitable for most skin types, and it aims to promote skin moisture retention and calm and soothe the effects of irritation. I have been using it at night after cleansing my skin with Soap & Glory Peaches And Clean Cleanser,...

Urban Veda – Purifying Hydrating Toner & Purifying Protecting Night Cream

Urban Veda – Purifying Hydrating Toner & Purifying Protecting Night Cream

Urban Veda’s range of natural skincare is based on the ancient principles of Ayurveda, which originated 5,000 years ago in the Himalayas. Ayurveda promotes the idea of using nature to help live a healthier and more balanced lifestyle – a philosophy that I really admire. Last year I reviewed the Purifying Day Cream which I loved, so Urban Veda recently sent me this duo of Purifying Hydrating Toner and Purifying Protecting Night Cream to try out too. The Purifying range is aimed at ‘Kapha’ skins… (normal and oily skins). Purifying Hydrating Toner is a translucent very pale green liquid, the ingredients include aloe vera, witch hazel and neem (a vegetable ingredient pressed from the fruits and seeds of an evergreen Indian tree). The witch hazel is a natural astringent which means that it helps to stop the skin producing as much oil. The toner should be applied on a cotton pad and gently wiped over the face, it can be used morning and night. It has a minty fresh...

Organic Surge – Orange Flower Toner

Organic Surge – Orange Flower Toner

I think it’s really important that we know what we are putting on our skin, and I am more and more often choosing natural and organic skincare products. One of my favourite organic brands is Organic Surge. Organic Surge products contain no parabens, sodium lauryl sulphate, no artificial fragrances or colourants and no genetically modified ingredients, neither are they tested on animals. I used to use Organic Surge’s Refreshing Toner, but they have recently reformulated it and created the new Orange Flower Toner. This is a fairly simple product, it is a cooling, refreshing pale orange coloured liquid toner with a lovely subtle Neroli orangey scent, it feels cooling on the skin and leaves it feeling really clean and fresh. It contains organic orange flower water which is renowned for its healing and regenerating properties. I apply Orange Flower Toner every night with a cotton wool pad after cleansing to help refresh my skin and remove every last trace of cleanser. After use my skin feels nice and cool,...

Living Nature – Hydrating Toning Gel

Living Nature – Hydrating Toning Gel

You may have read my reviews of other Living Nature products on Beauty Best Friend, if so you may know that Living Nature is a certified natural skincare and cosmetic brand based in New Zealand and all of their products are made from 100% natural ingredients. I think it’s really important to know what we are actually putting onto and into our skin. I was recently offered the chance to try out this Hydrating Toning Gel* from Living Nature. I usually use a liquid toner from Organic Surge so this toning gel was something a bit different. Developed for oily and problematic skin, the aim of this toning gel is to restore the natural pH levels of the skin, and to help prevent oil overproduction, whilst naturally firming and toning the skin. It is a clear gel with a sweet floral scent and it should be applied after cleansing in both the morning and the evening. I wasn’t sure whether to apply it with my fingers or a cotton...
