Chase the glitter rainbow with Moondust from Urban Decay

Chase the glitter rainbow with Moondust from Urban Decay

For a long time now I’ve been searching for a seriously glittery eyeshadow. Not just one that shimmers and shines, but one that actually glitters, containing tiny particles of glitter that give serious twinkle when they hit the light. I’ve experimented with actual cosmetic glitter like the fabulous budget range of cosmetic glitters from Stargazer. and had fantastic results using Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners but I had struggled to find an actual eyeshadow that fitted the bill….. that is until now! This is the stunning Moondust eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay. Urban Decay do palettes so well, and I’d lusted after this one as soon as it was released but sadly it was sold out for ages (as is usual with so many of Urban Decay’s new releases). I finally got my hands on it last month and the wait was worth it! Firstly can we just take a moment to take in the sheer beauty of the Moondust palette…….. The hard case with mirrored word ‘moondust’ on the lid...

White & Glitter Nails

White & Glitter Nails

I purchased Barry M’s Matt White Nail Paint ages ago but thought it looked a bit stark worn on its own (it looks a little bit like you’ve painted your nails in Tipp-Ex if you don’t do it really neatly!). So I decided to pair it up with a glitter polish to create a vivid sparkly effect. I decided to use Diamond Arcade from Nails Inc, one of the most vibrant and sparkly glitter polishes that I’ve tried. Nails Inc called it a ‘Nail Jewellery Top Coat’ and when the light catches the glitter particles it really can look like you’re wearing jewellery on your nails! First I painted 2 coats of the Barry M Matt White Nail Paint over my nails and left to dry. It very opaque and works really well as a base colour – it would also work well as part of a French manicure or to create white accents in a nail art design. Then I painted a coat of the Nails Inc Diamond Arcade...

Blue Sparkle & Nude Nails

Blue Sparkle & Nude Nails

I created this Blue Sparkle & Nude nail look using one of my favourite nail polishes and a brand new one. Barry M’s Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee is a nail polish that I love and I use it over and over again, both on it’s own which looks really classy or incorporated in nail art and I have used it here as the nude base underneath the blue sparkly tips. The glittery blue polish is part of the Essence Effect Nail Polish* range and it’s called ‘Party In A Bottle’ which I think is a fun name. If you’ve not heard of Essence before this is because they’ve only recently launched in the UK, you might want to have a read of my post about the UK launch of Essence make-up to find out more. First I painted 2 coats of the Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee over my nails and left to dry. It works really well as a base colour underneath glitters and nail art as...

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

Essence make-up has been around overseas since 2002 but has only recently been launched in the UK. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to their launch party but I was kindly sent a selection of Essence make-up to try. My first impressions of Essence is good, the products and packaging remind me a bit of Rimmel London and I feel they are aimed at girls aged 12-18 although they would suit anyone looking for make-up on a budget. I will be reviewing 3 Essence make-up products today, and I have another couple of items (including a glitter nail varnish) that I will be reviewing over the coming weeks. The first product that I tried was Essence Pureskin Anti-Spot Moisturizing Make-Up*, a light foundation designed to help fight spots and blackheads which contains Clearderm Complex that fights spots and also zinc and bisabolol which help speed up the healing process. The product is fairly light, a bit like a cross between a foundation and a tinted moisturiser and it...

The Body Shop – Ginger Sparkle Body Butter & Mango Lip Butter

The Body Shop – Ginger Sparkle Body Butter & Mango Lip Butter

In early January I went into The Body Shop store in York and they were having a post-Christmas sale whereby all of their yummy body butters had been reduced to £5 each and the lip butters had been reduced to £3 each. I purchased this mini-haul of butters as I just love their body butters and I was a bit low on lip balm and once I had sniffed this mango lip butter in the store I was smitten, I just love fruity scents. The Ginger Sparkle Body Butter was a limited edition Christmas fragrance, and I was excited to get my hands on this as I love the smell of ginger. I have found that the scent is quite citrussy and limey rather than gingery though, it should be called ‘Lime with a hint of Ginger’ – it’s still lovely but not as Christmassy and spicy as I had hoped. I had also assumed from its name that Ginger Sparkle Body Butter would have some sort of shimmer...

Orly – Nail Polish in VIP

Orly – Nail Polish in VIP

I have realised that my reviews of nail polish have been few and far between recently, so here’s a treat for the nail polish lovers amongst my readers! I bought this little sparkly gem of a nail colour when I went shopping in York a couple of months ago. I love glittery nail polish and this VIP pink shade from Orly is just gorgeous, I have been wearing it over Christmas. VIP is a clear polish with densely packed rose pink coloured glitter particles. It’s just so sparkly and is perfect for Christmas and parties. It does need a good few coats if you want a dense glitter coverage, I applied 3 coats of VIP over a coat of Chanel Protective Base Coat, then applied a clear top coat on top to give extra shine. VIP would also look great applied over a matt rose pink shade, to give the colour a bit of depth. So far I have been wearing it for 4 days on both my fingers...

Pink Sparkle Nail Art

Pink Sparkle Nail Art

Welcome to another nail art post! I created this look using Barry M ‘Magenta Glitter’ Nail Paint and MUA Nail Polish in ‘Natural Days’. I just love Natural Days, it’s such a pretty, pale baby pink, if you want to see what it looks like on its own, have a look at my review here. Barry M’s Magenta Glitter is a very intense fuchsia pink colour, that contains mainly fine flecks of glitter but does have a few larger blobs of glitter in too. First I painted 2 thick coats of the Natural Days pale baby pink polish over my nails and left to dry. Then I painted a thin coat of Magenta Glitter at the base of my nail to about halfway up each nail. After this coat had dried I painted another coat of the glitter nail paint, this time from the base to only about one third of the way up each nail, this way it gives a gentle graded effect to the glitter. I finished with a...

How to create breathtaking looks with glitter eyeliner

How to create breathtaking looks with glitter eyeliner

I am a massive fan of Urban Decay cosmetics, they have funky packaging, great palettes and I love the use of sparkle, glimmer and glitter within their products. Plus I discovered recently that Urban Decay is a member of Cruelty Free International, meaning that they have acquired the ‘Leaping Bunny’ stamp and their products are not tested on animals. So I decided it was about time that I reviewed one of my favourite Urban Decay products, Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner. Available in 7 glittery shades, these sparkly eyeliners are so much fun, they’re perfect for parties and the festive season. You don’t even need to limit them to your eyes, you can use them to draw patterns onto your face and body too. Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner is basically tiny pieces of glitter held densely within a clear base, and you apply it with the very thin brush that is inside the lid. As the brush is so tiny it only applies a few flakes of glitter at a...
