Get the lowdown now on emerging organic skincare brand

Get the lowdown now on emerging organic skincare brand

A few weeks ago I was contacted by new skincare brand Sapphire Organic Skincare asking if I’d try out their products. I’m such an advocate of independent natural & organic skincare brands, I don’t like using products that contain nasty chemicals – including parabens, mineral oil, sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) – these are all ingredients that I try to avoid where I can. The branding has a bit of a way to go I think. The name Sapphire doesn’t stand out,  and there are no directions on the labels explaining how to use the products. The printing on the labels smudges when you touch them with product on your hands too. What I do like though is that the ingredients are really clearly listed, and every one is natural and 100% organic. Rose Garden Soft Face Balm I love using natural moisturisers and this Rose Garden Soft Face Balm was the first Sapphire product I tried. Shea Butter is the main ingredient, plus it also contains Rosehip Oil which...

Organic anti-ageing skincare from EKIA

Organic anti-ageing skincare from EKIA

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend will know that I’m a real advocate of natural and organic skincare. It’s so important that we know exactly what we’re putting on our skin, and the majority of the high street skincare brands display ingredient lists so long that they struggle to fit them on the packaging. Many of the preservatives and emulsifiers in skincare and make-up can actually have a negative effect on our skin and I’ve seen a definite improvement in my troubled complexion since I made the move to natural skincare. Natural skincare doesn’t mean all homemade yogurt masks and essential oils, you’re never going to find me in the kitchen whipping up a yogurt and avocado mask to smear on my face! There are a lot of established but little-known brands out there just waiting to be discovered, and I have been trying out three products from one of them. EKIA (not to be confused with the Swedish home furniture giant) is a French organic skincare brand that...

Amelia Moss Natural Skincare

Amelia Moss Natural Skincare

I’m a huge fan of natural skincare, I just hate those long ingredient lists that you get on a lot of skincare labels full of complicated words that you can’t pronounce and don’t know what they are. In fact a lot of the ingredients may not actually be anything that benefits your skin at all, they could be preservatives, emulsifiers, colours or fragrances and they may actually have a detrimental effect on your skin or your health. I’m also a great believer that using natural oils on your skin is the best way forward, ever since I first tried Rosehip Oil from Trilogy I’ve been hooked! A lot of people, particularly those with oily skins, are very nervous of using oils as cleansers or moisturisers as they worry that it may make their skin even more oily. But it doesn’t, in fact using natural oils on your skin actually counteracts your skin’s natural oiliness and can help your skin to calm down. Recently I was contacted by Amelia Moss...

Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Beauty supplements are big news at the moment, if it’s not a soft drink that promises to get rid of your wrinkles then it’s a herbal tea that helps you to lose weight or a supplement tablet that promises younger looking skin. But what’s the truth about this type of ‘get beautiful quick’ supplement and do they really work? I’ve been taking part in the Pycnogenol trial which involves taking a herbal supplement every day for a month and using Clarins Double Serum* on my skin alongside the supplement so that I’m treating my skin from both within and on the outside too. You’d be forgiven if you’ve not heard of Pycnogenol before, it’s a herbal supplement derived from pine bark that can be used in the treatment of many ailments including allergies, circulation problems, asthma and high blood pressure. But it has also been found to have positive effects on the skin, some of its benefits include: a potent antioxidant it can reduce and slow the effects of ageing...

Best Friend Bargains!

Best Friend Bargains!

I’ve been thinking a lot about my blog name Beauty Best Friend recently. I chose the name as I wanted to be someone my readers could trust and confide in. I wanted to share my beauty tips and recommendations with my readers like I would with my best friends. So in my role as your new (Beauty) Best Friend each weekend I will be sharing a small selection of special beauty offers with my Facebook and Twitter followers, and calling them my Best Friend Bargains! I carried out a trial last weekend, sharing four fantastic make-up deals from Escentual. The offers were mainly half price make-up discounts and got lots of interest, particularly on Twitter. So keep an eye out on my Beauty Best Friend Facebook and Twitter pages over the coming weekends for some not-to-be-missed special offers. Sometimes the Best Friend Bargains will be all from one shop, sometimes I’ll mix it up a bit and they’ll be from different suppliers. I’ll promote a mixture of skincare, make-up, haircare products,...

Murad – Invisiblur Perfecting Shield

Murad – Invisiblur Perfecting Shield

At first I wasn’t sure what Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield* was – I assumed that as it has SPF30 it was some kind of moisturiser, or perhaps some kind of BB Cream. To be honest even after using it for over a week I’m still not sure how I’d describe it! Murad say it’s a ‘5 in 1 multi-benefit formula‘, I’d suggest it’s a moisturising priming treatment with sunscreen! Invisiblur Perfecting Shield was a gold winner of Best New Premium Skincare Product at the 2015 Pure Beauty Magazine Awards and has also been recommended by Woman & Home magazine. The product itself is a clear gel that’s super silky smooth. The long list of ingredients include lots of natural ones such as Barley, Sunflower and Cucumber Extracts, but there are also some not so natural looking ones too. The aim of Invisiblur is to soften and prime skin whilst blurring wrinkles and imperfections, plus with SPF 30 it protects skin from the harmful effects of the sun which is...

Asian beauty products from Beauteque

Asian beauty products from Beauteque

The playful nature and kitsch packaging of Asian beauty products have always appealed to me and I’ve reviewed quite a few make-up and skincare products from Korean brands such as Tony Moly and Etude House before. However it’s not always easy to get hold of these products here in the UK, I often resort to eBay or Amazon to get hold of them. But now there’s Beauteque – a new one-stop online shop for all things Asian beauty. Started in Summer 2015 by a young entrepreneur, Beauteque offers an ever expanding range of skincare, make-up, haircare and bodycare all from Asian brands. Whilst the website is based in the USA they ship all over the world and I was very excited to see that they stock some of my favourite brands. Beauteque offers two shopping experiences – you can either purchase from the regular online store or they also provide two monthly subscriptions services – the BB Bag which holds 6-8 make-up and skincare products, or the Mask Maven with 9-11...

Neal’s Yard Remedies Blogger Event, Leeds

Neal’s Yard Remedies Blogger Event, Leeds

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the Neal’s Yard Remedies store in Victoria Quarter, Leeds, to their blogger day. Their aim was to educate bloggers from around the Yorkshire area about their natural skincare and bodycare products. I recently reviewed their amazing Mothers Bath Oil but I have to admit that this was the only product from Neal’s Yard Remedies that I’d tried so I was looking forward to finding out more. I was welcomed to the store with a glass of fizz and a selection of superb vegan canapés… The event was very informal, first of all I chatted to one of their staff (really sorry I can’t remember her name!) and she told me about the background of Neal’s Yard Remedies – starting off in the back streets of Covent Garden 30 years ago and developing into a national brand. We then discussed my skincare regime and which of their products might be right for me. One of the products she recommended was Wild Rose...
