Neal & Wolf – Glow & Harmony

Neal & Wolf – Glow & Harmony

When I was asked to try out hair styling products Glow* and Harmony* from Neal & Wolf I was very excited as it’s a brand I have read a lot about recently but have never tried. The brand is all about enjoying a little indulgence every day and this is reflected in their beautiful shimmery premium packaging. Neal & Wolf, the brainchild of Neil Capstick who has worked in the hair industry for over 20 years, has concentrated on bringing out just a small number of products but with the very best ingredients and they are only sold in specially picked salons. The first of the two products that I tested out was Harmony Intensive Hair Treatment which is a conditioner suitable for all hair types. This product has been developed without containing any parabens or sulfates and has not been tested on animals, and I think it’s really great to see more haircare brands shunning some of the nasty ingredients that we find in our cosmetic products. Harmony...

Boots – Natural Collection Mango & Papaya Hi-Shine Conditioner

Boots – Natural Collection Mango & Papaya Hi-Shine Conditioner

I bought this sachet of Natural Collection Mango & Papaya Hi-Shine Conditioner from Boots ages ago and then put it in the bathroom cupboard and forgot about it. I found it last week and thought I would try it out as my hair was in need of a little bit of TLC after being out in the cold weather. I don’t really think that sachets are a cost-effective way of buying beauty products (this one cost £1 for just 10ml) but they are a good way of trying new products. Plus I really like putting together a little pamper box as a gift, made up of lots of different bodycare and haircare sachets (Sanctuary do a good range) plus a mini bottle of wine. Mango & Papaya Hi-Shine Conditioner is an intensive conditioner that contains revitalising extracts of mango & papaya to help leave hair shiny, smooth and healthy. You just apply it to hair after shampooing like you would with a regular conditioner then leave it for 5-10...

Toni & Guy – Classic Shine Gloss Serum

Toni & Guy – Classic Shine Gloss Serum

I received this Classic Shine Gloss Serum from Toni & Guy in my September Glossybox but it’s taken me a while to get round to trying it out. I’m not big on hair styling products but I do suffer from frizz so a serum is always welcome! This one from Toni & Guy has been designed to give hair smoothness and shine, and unlike many other serums it should be applied to dry hair. The Classic Shine Gloss Serum is a clear serum and has quite a runny consistency. You only need a tiny amount, then you rub it between your palms before smoothing onto the lengths and ends of dry hair, avoiding the roots. I have used this a few times now and it does give locks a nice shine, particularly on straightened hair. It really flattens flyaway strands of hair too! I don’t think I would want to use it 2 days running without washing my hair in between though, as it would start to make my...

Clarins – Joli Rouge Lipstick in Hot Pink

Clarins – Joli Rouge Lipstick in Hot Pink

This is the third Joli Rouge lipstick from Clarins that I have tested, this one is Hot Pink*, and I have really liked the previous two.  I do think that Clarins keep it quite safe with their make-up range, with predictable – but very wearable – shades. The quality of their make-up products is good too and well worth the premium price. The Joli Rouge lipstick range contains ingredients that help plump and hydrate for full, soft and supple lips, this lipstick has a lovely creamy consistency and applies really nicely. It has a feint fruity strawberry scent which is really nice. Hot Pink is a bright raspberry pink colour and the texture is lovely and buttery and sheer. It applies to the lips so very easily – either with a lip brush or straight from the tube (so long as you have a steady hand!). The swatch image above clearly shows how glossy this colour is. I just love the sophisticated shiny silver bullet tubes too, they look...

Seventeen – Mirror Shine Lipstick in Camisole

Seventeen – Mirror Shine Lipstick in Camisole

Today I am reviewing another of Seventeen’s Mirror Shine Lipsticks, this one is the super-pale Camisole. When I was a teenager I used to love Boots Seventeen products (or 17 as it used to be known) as they were great value and perfect for the occasional pocket money splurge. Mirror Shine Lipsticks are really soft and sheer with a nice gloss-like shine – hence the name ‘Mirror Shine’! I just love the almost-lipgloss-like sheer consistency of these lipsticks, and I chose this one in Camisole as I felt it had a 1960s pale feel to it. The square-shaped black bullet tube has a nifty little pull out mirror hidden inside the lid which is a really nice touch, perfect for applying your lippy when you’re out and about. I love products with surprising little ‘added extras’ and this doesn’t disappoint. Camisole is very pale creamy peach colour, as you can see from the swatch image below it applies much sheerer than it appears in the tube, and gives only...

Mirenesse – Lip Lift Moisture Shine in Pale Rose

Mirenesse – Lip Lift Moisture Shine in Pale Rose

Mirenesse pride themselves on being Australia’s Number 1 online beauty brand, and today I am reviewing their Lip Lift Moisture Shine in Pale Rose that I recently received in my Latest In Beauty Editor’s Picks collection box. Lip Lift Moisture Shine is a plumping lip gloss that contains Vitamin E and Collagen, the Collagen microspheres swell on contact with the lips to plump the lips within 5 minutes. I quite like the packaging with the shaped silver top, although I do think it looks a little bit old fashioned. The silver top screws off to reveal a fairly average applicator that can be used to apply the gloss to the lips. This lip gloss is a lovely dusky rose pink colour, a fairly natural shade, and it is lovely and thick and glossy as you can see from the swatch image below. There is very little scent or taste to it which is good, and it is a creamy colour with no shimmer. Although I love the colour of...

Nicky Clarke – Instant Calmer

Nicky Clarke – Instant Calmer

This Instant Calmer from Nicky Clarke’s styling range came in my Editor’s Picks collection box from Latest in Beauty. I’m not generally a big user of styling products – a squirt of Frizz Ease serum usually does me fine – but I have used this a few times now and am pleased with the results. This product is described as a ‘Sleek Soften Shine Balm’ and it aims to smooth and control hair for a sleek finish. It contains Argan Oil and avocado extract, ingredients which are both well known for their hair-smoothing properties. I have fairly thick, wavy blonde hair which can either be straightened poker-straight or scrunched to give spiral curls. Unfortunately whichever style I go for I always suffer from the dreaded frizz – made worse by damp or humid weather – so a smoothing hair product is a must for me. I would describe this product as a clear gel than a balm, as you can see from the image above. Unlike many smoothing serums...

Seventeen – Mirror Shine Lipstick in Cheeky Secret

Seventeen – Mirror Shine Lipstick in Cheeky Secret

When I was a teenager I used to love Boots Seventeen products (or 17 as it used to be known) as they were great value and had a wide range of trendy colours. Fast forward several years and Seventeen is a brand I haven’t used for ages, so I thought I would try out one of their lipsticks. I chose this Mirror Shine Lipstick in Cheeky Secret as I had been thinking about buying an orange-toned lipstick for a while. Mirror Shine Lipsticks are really soft and sheer with a nice gloss-like shine – hence the name ‘Mirror Shine’! The square-shaped black bullet tube has a nifty little pull out mirror hidden inside the lid which is a really nice touch, perfect for applying your lippy when you’re out and about. I love products with surprising little ‘added extras’ and this doesn’t disappoint. Cheeky Secret is a lovely sheer lipstick, with just a hint of a tint of orange. It goes on to the lips much sheerer than it...
