MUA – Lipstick in Shade 6

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 6

This is the fourth MUA lipstick that I have tested (you can read my review of MUA Lipstick in Shade 9 here). MUA lipsticks are remarkable in the fact that they are fantastic value for money and cost just £1! Yes, you read that correctly, just £1. “But are they any good?” I hear you ask. Well keep reading… Shade 6 is a bright orangey-pink colour with a slight metallic tone, it is surprisingly creamy and applies really nicely from the tube – so much so that you could carefully apply it without lining your lips first with a lip pencil. It is a really dense pigmented colour as you can see from the swatch image below. It actually looks a bit more orangey in the tube, but applies much pinker. Makeup Academy Lipstick in Shade 6 is great given it’s price tag but it does show up every single crease on the lips, so should only be worn on freshly exfoliated lips that have been treated with a good...

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #6

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #6

Welcome to the sixth episode of ‘The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick’! I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’. Today I am reviewing Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss in Shade 101 from Rimmel London. I’ve not actually used a lot of Rimmel products recently despite them being one of my favourite brands when I was a teenager. The red bullet tube is simple and has Kate Moss’ signature printed in black on the lid. I don’t really feel that Rimmel products look very premium, but I do find that the packaging is well made and sturdy...

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 9

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 9

This is the third MUA lipstick that I have tested (you can read one of my previous reviews here). MUA lipsticks are remarkable in the fact that they are fantastic value for money and cost just £1! Yes, you read that correctly, just £1. “But are they any good?” I hear you ask. Well keep reading… Shade 9 is a dark metallic reddy brown colour, it is surprisingly creamy and applies really nicely from the tube – it certainly doesn’t feel like a budget product. It is a really dense metallic colour with a golden undertone as you can see from the swatch image below. Makeup Academy Lipstick in Shade 9 is great given it’s price but as it is so thick and metallic it does show up every single crease and flake on the lips, so should only be worn on freshly exfoliated lips that have been treated with a good moisturiser. If you are over 40 or have particularly lined or dry lips then I would suggest you avoid...

MUA – Pressed Powder in Shade 1

MUA – Pressed Powder in Shade 1

A quick review today of one of my new favourite products from MUA. I have used loose translucent powder to set my foundation for as long as I can remember, but I wanted a pressed powder that I could take with me in my handbag for touch ups. I was looking for a budget option, so I chose this Pressed Powder in Shade 1 from MUA (MUA stands for Make Up Academy, and it’s Superdrug’s own budget make-up brand). I’ve already reviewed a few products from MUA and found that they usually give great results despite their very reasonable prices. At just £1 this really is a budget product! I love the ‘MUA’ that has been imprinted into the powder, it reminds me of Cargo eyeshadow and powder products. The transparent palette doesn’t really match MUA’s other make-up products though, I think it would have looked better in black. I started off keeping this Pressed Powder palette in my handbag for touch-ups on the go. However it has now...

MUA Blusher – Shade 2

MUA Blusher – Shade 2

Up until about 3 months ago I had always been a bit of a beauty snob and thought that you got what you paid for with make-up, and that all of the new budget beauty brands that are emerging couldn’t have been any good. But there is a brand that has now changed my mind, and that is MUA. Available online and from Superdrug, MUA (short for Makeup Academy) offers a huge range of budget make-up which starts from just £1…. yes, you read that correctly, just £1! So today I am reviewing MUA Blusher in Shade 2, could it be the best-value blusher in the world?! MUA Blusher in Shade 2 is a peach-coloured pressed powder blusher in a small rectangular compact. I don’t normally go for peach or orange based blushers, usually sticking to more bluey-pinks, but I thought it might be nice for the Summer months to wear when I have a tan. The colour applies quite sparingly to the cheeks and you need to apply several layers...

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 14

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 14

This is the second MUA lipstick that I have tested (see the previous review here). MUA lipsticks are remarkable in the fact that they are fantastic value for money and cost just £1! Yes, you read that correctly, just £1. “But are they any good?” I hear you ask. Well keep reading… Shade 14 is a pale nude beige colour, it is surprisingly creamy, applies really nicely from the tube and has a lovely vanilla scent – it certainly doesn’t feel like a budget product. It is a fairly matt colour with no shimmer as you can see from the swatch image below. Makeup Academy Lipstick in Shade 14 is great given it’s price and I have been wearing it when I want to play down my lips and make a feature of my eyes. The sleek black tube wouldn’t look out of place in a cosmetic purse filled with Chanel and Mac products either. I have said before that it would be nice if MUA gave their lipstick colours a name rather...

Helen E – Waterproof Protective Lip Liner in Shade 4

Helen E – Waterproof Protective Lip Liner in Shade 4

This Waterproof Protective Lip Liner from Helen E was in my June Glossybox. I had tried other Helen E lip products out in the past with differing results, so I was interested to try out this lip pencil. Helen E is a relatively new UK makeup brand, founded by owner Helen Elowe in 1999. This product is a fairly simple waterproof lip liner pencil with a lid – it ‘does what it says on the tin’ basically – there’s nothing fancy or special about it, but it delivers what you expect from a lip liner. Shade 4 is a mid-to-dark red colour which works well worn together with both red and brown lipsticks. The pencil is really nice and soft and easy to apply and also sharpens fairly easily which is imperative for a lip pencil in order to continue producing a nice sharp, even line. I am pleased to say that this Waterproof Protective Lip Liner in Shade 4 has restored my faith in Helen E products and I would...
