Get the lowdown now on emerging organic skincare brand

Get the lowdown now on emerging organic skincare brand

A few weeks ago I was contacted by new skincare brand Sapphire Organic Skincare asking if I’d try out their products. I’m such an advocate of independent natural & organic skincare brands, I don’t like using products that contain nasty chemicals – including parabens, mineral oil, sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) – these are all ingredients that I try to avoid where I can. The branding has a bit of a way to go I think. The name Sapphire doesn’t stand out,  and there are no directions on the labels explaining how to use the products. The printing on the labels smudges when you touch them with product on your hands too. What I do like though is that the ingredients are really clearly listed, and every one is natural and 100% organic. Rose Garden Soft Face Balm I love using natural moisturisers and this Rose Garden Soft Face Balm was the first Sapphire product I tried. Shea Butter is the main ingredient, plus it also contains Rosehip Oil which...

Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Is Pycnogenol the new wonder skincare supplement?

Beauty supplements are big news at the moment, if it’s not a soft drink that promises to get rid of your wrinkles then it’s a herbal tea that helps you to lose weight or a supplement tablet that promises younger looking skin. But what’s the truth about this type of ‘get beautiful quick’ supplement and do they really work? I’ve been taking part in the Pycnogenol trial which involves taking a herbal supplement every day for a month and using Clarins Double Serum* on my skin alongside the supplement so that I’m treating my skin from both within and on the outside too. You’d be forgiven if you’ve not heard of Pycnogenol before, it’s a herbal supplement derived from pine bark that can be used in the treatment of many ailments including allergies, circulation problems, asthma and high blood pressure. But it has also been found to have positive effects on the skin, some of its benefits include: a potent antioxidant it can reduce and slow the effects of ageing...

KOREAN BEAUTY May Coop – Raw Sauce

KOREAN BEAUTY May Coop – Raw Sauce

This is my last Korean beauty special for a little while, I have been writing these as part of an initiative working with BNT News International, a global beauty/fashion/lifestyle and entertainment source based in Seoul, South Korea. I am helping BNT to promote a selection of new and exciting Korean beauty products to a UK audience, these are products that you probably won’t have seen before and some of them are really different and unique. The product that I am reviewing today is Raw Sauce* from May Coop. I think that ‘Raw Sauce’ is a very strange name for a beauty product, however being a Korean brand May Coop will possibly have translated this into English from Korean. Plus, once you know a bit more about the ingredients the name makes a bit more sense… Raw Sauce is a cross between a toner and a serum that you apply after cleansing and before moisturising. The main ingredient is Maple Tree Sap – apparently the molecules are smaller than water molecules and absorb...

Luxury probiotic skincare that really works, from Aurelia

Luxury probiotic skincare that really works, from Aurelia

You’d be forgiven if you haven’t heard of Aurelia Probiotic Skincare before, I only heard of them a few months back and I’ve been reading some really good reviews of their products. Their philosophy is all around using ethically sourced 100% BioOrganic botanical formulations to prevent skin ageing, and their products are free from a number of ingredients that we are starting to think of as potentially harmful – including synthetic fragrances, colorants, parabens, mineral oils, silicones, sulphates, propylene glycol and phthalates. Aurelia Probiotic Skincare is also cruelty free and carries the ‘Leaping Bunny’ mark. I was sent a boxful of goodies from Aurelia to try out and the first thing that struck me was their packaging, it felt like unwrapping a really special gift wrapped in black tissue paper, tied with ribbon and nestled inside a black gift box. I was sent a full size of the popular Refine & Polish Miracle Balm, plus a sample of 3 other products that were housed inside little dark bottles and tied...

Vichy – Aqualia Thermal Power Serum

Vichy – Aqualia Thermal Power Serum

I’m quite partial to a serum, especially when it promises super hydration. I have combination skin, and my forehead and cheeks can get very dry particularly in cold weather, so I’m always on the lookout for something that will rehydrate my skin. This Aqualia Thermal Power Serum from Vichy contains three hydrating sugars which helps to hold water inside the skin for up to 48 hours, thus helping prevent dehydration. Skin is composed of 70% water and it’s the body’s barrier between you and the environment. Over the course of the day your skin can lose water, and dehydration can cause small wrinkles to appear and make skin start to look dull. I’ve been using Vichy Aqualia Thermal Power Serum for around 2 weeks now, applying it at night before I go to bed. It’s a white milky serum with a gentle floral scent and you only need one squirt to cover the whole face. You apply it before your regular moisturiser and it feels silky on your skin, it’s...

Botanicals – Radiance Serum

Botanicals – Radiance Serum

I love natural skincare brand Botanicals and have recently also reviewed their Cleansing Melt and Nourishing Face Balm. All of Botanicals’ products are blended by hand in rural England and contain no no petrochemicals or synthetic additives, plus they are approved by the Soil Association, are suitable for vegans and are never tested on animals. Radiance Serum is a blend of natural oils that give revitalising effects to the skin. The main ingredients include apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, rosehip oil, jojoba, evening primrose, lavender, mandarin and chamomile. Avocado is known to increase collagen in the skin giving a plumping effect and is sometimes known as ‘nature’s botox’! The scent of Radiance Serum is beautiful, the lavender really comes through but it also has a citrusy undertone and it smells natural and relaxing. Although it’s called a serum it’s really a golden coloured oil – it’s very different to the consistency of other serums that you’d find on the high street – and I’ve been using it as a...

Elite Serum for eyes – 50% OFF!

Elite Serum for eyes – 50% OFF!

You may remember my review from September of Elite Serum for eyes, and the great results I experienced from it. Well the lovely people at Elite Serum are offering my readers an exclusive 50% OFF Elite Serum this weekend only – 1st & 2nd November 2014! Find out why I love Elite Serum… Elite Serum is an eye serum which aims to increase elasticity on the eyelids and below the eye within days, reduces dark circles, performs a lightening around the eyes and minimises puffiness within a few weeks plus it continues to reduce fine lines after that for up to 6 months. Elite Serum is stored in a precision airless syringe which is really easy to use. Just remove the plastic cap and rubber tip, then unlock the syringe by twisting the end and press to dispense a dose enough for both eyes. I actually prefer using a serum to a cream, I sometimes feel that eye creams are quite heavy and make my eyes feel rather itchy...

L’Occitane – Immortelle Divine Lotion

L’Occitane – Immortelle Divine Lotion

Today’s review is of a rather unique product – Immortelle Divine Lotion from French skincare experts L’Occitane. The aim of the lotion is to prepare skin in order for it to receive benefits from other daily skincare products – the Divine Lotion should be applied to the face before your usual moisturiser or serum and it will help the skin to absorb these other products and benefit from their nutrients. I’m pretty sure I’ve never come across a product with benefits like this before! With 3 patents, Immortelle Divine Lotion helps accelerate cellular renewal, firms and smoothes the skin, and aids it in retaining its elasticity. I have been applying the lotion to my face both morning and evening, in place of toner in between cleansing and moisturising. You can either apply it with a cotton wool pad and wipe it all over the face or with your fingers. The white cloudy lotion is extremely thin and runny, and is absorbed straight into a cotton wool pad so I...
