Perfume of the day – The Body Shop Bowhanti

Perfume of the day – The Body Shop Bowhanti

So I haven’t written one of these Perfume Of The Day posts in quite a while. That’s because I’ve been wearing Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb almost exclusively for the past couple of years, and I haven’t been trying too many new fragrances. But last week The Body Shop® sent me this brand new Eau De Parfum to try, it’s called Bowhanti and it’s described as ‘Spicy Woods’. Bowhanti is a brand new fragrance, it was only released on The Body Shop® website last week, so you’re among the first to hear about it. I’d say it’s quite a masculine fragrance, spicy and exotic. It’s inspired by an aromatic tree from French Guiana and it has a blend of patchouli and incense. Think cinnamon sticks and smoke, log fires and general mystery… The bottle is really pretty, with a square glass base made from sustainably recycled glass with a wooden cap. I really like this fragrance, it’s a bit different and perfect for the cold dark nights of Winter. I’d suggest it’s...

Batiste – Dry Shampoo in Cherry

Batiste – Dry Shampoo in Cherry

I’m a massive fan of the lifesaver product that is Batiste Dry Shampoo. I have already reviewed the ‘Clean and Classic Original’ variety and the Light & Blonde variant. Today I am reviewing the fruity and cheeky Cherry fragranced version. Batiste Dry Shampoo works by absorbing the oil on the surface of the hair, you just spray it sparingly over dry hair and then style as normal – only make sure you don’t apply too much as it can leave hair looking a bit ‘talcy’. The Cherry is the same as the original one except that it has the lovely fragrance of cherries – the fragrance is fairly strong when you first spray it, but it fades quickly leaving a gentle sweet scent in your hair. The only downside with Batiste Dry Shampoo is that the spray is rather violent and loud (and scares my cats!), I would prefer a more gentle spray like you get from a hairspray can. I love the retro design on the can and the logo. Batiste Dry...

Organic Surge – Citrus Mint Shower Gel

Organic Surge – Citrus Mint Shower Gel

I’m a real believer in knowing what ingredients we are putting onto our skin, and that is why I have been trying out another product from organic skincare specialists Organic Surge. Organic Surge products contain no parabens, sodium lauryl sulphate, no artificial fragrances or colourants and no genetically modified ingredients, neither are they tested on animals. This product is Citrus Mint Shower Gel and I’ve been using it for around 2 weeks now. It’s a neutral translucent gel and it has a lovely minty fresh scent, although I can’t really smell much citrus fragrance. It would be perfect for Summer as it smells really zingy and a perfect pick-me-up product for a morning shower. Citrus Mint Shower Gel lathers really well, the best of any of the sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) free products that I have tried recently (sometimes products that don’t contain the SLS soap ingredient struggle to work up a good foam) and you only need a small amount on a sponge to wash your whole body....

Voluspa – French Bourbon Vanille & Branche Vermeil Candles

Voluspa – French Bourbon Vanille & Branche Vermeil Candles

I do seem to have been writing quite a few candle reviews recently, but it is the perfect time of year for them. I love to close the blinds when it gets dark, and light a scented candle – a fragrance can really help to relax you, or to transport you back to a different time and place. A couple of weeks ago I was VERY lucky enough to receive these Voluspa candles*. Voluspa is a luxury US candle brand – fueled by a love for art, fragrance and elegant illumination, Troy and Traci Arntsen created their first scented candle in their kitchen in 1999, and the brand took off from there. I love their traditional style of logo and the ornate tins and packaging. All of Voluxpa’s luxury candles are made from a coconut wax blend which burns slowly and cleanly with no soot or smoke. Both of these candles are from Voluspa’s Seasons collection. French Bourbon Vanille 3 Wick Tin Candle – this is the larger of...

Perfume of the day – Lancome Tresor Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Lancome Tresor Eau de Parfum

This little mini Tresor Eau de Parfum came in my Selfridges Beauty Advent Calendar and I just think the little bottle looks so cute! The bottle has been designed to look like a precious treasure, and ‘Tresor’ actually means ‘treasure’ in French. The fragrance is both floral and fruity, with a sort of sweet powdery note to it. Lancome say, ‘Its luminous fragrance gives a refined and radiant aura to the woman who wears it.’ Tresor is actually a bit too sweet for me, I prefer more mysterious fragrances like Thierry Mugler’s Alien, but the little bottle does look so sweet sat on my dressing table! I might have to give it away though to someone who will love the fragrance. Prices for Lancome Tresor start from £39.50 at The Perfume Shop, for a 30ml Eau de Parfum gift set. I will be reviewing some more of the dinky products that have come out of my Selfridges Advent Calendar soon. If you enjoyed reading this blog post why not...

Partylite – Escential Jar Candle in Iced Snowberries

Partylite – Escential Jar Candle in Iced Snowberries

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a Partylite party by a friend. I’d never heard of Partylite before, but basically it’s a Party Plan type brand that sells candles via home parties and also via its website. The company was started in the US in the early 1900s and in the 1970s developed into a Party Plan business as a way of allowing US women to start working for themselves. The party was good fun and our consultant was really knowledgable, explaining about the ingredients within the candles and how to get the best from them. Although the prices aren’t cheap the candles are really good quality and should burn for a long time with a clear flame – not giving off any soot like cheaper budget counterparts. There are around 50 different fragrances of candles available, and the consultant had a small sample of each one so you could have a sniff and choose your favourite. I just loved the Iced Snowberries fragrance, described as...

The Body Shop – White Musk Smoky Rose Body Lotion

The Body Shop – White Musk Smoky Rose Body Lotion

You may have seen my review a few days ago of the new White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette from The Body Shop (you can read that here). Well here is a review of the matching White Musk Smoky Rose Body Lotion*. The Body Shop have recently updated their classic fragrance White Musk and created White Musk Smoky Rose. It’s a modern twist on the old favourite, containing notes of cruelty-free musk, black smoky rose and tobacco flower. This White Musk Smoky Rose Body Lotion is a creamy white lotion that soaks in to the skin quickly, and leaves skin feeling moisturised but not oily or sticky. It gives skin a lovely warm fragrance that is not overpowering. White Musk Smoky Rose is much more of a deep, mysterious fragrance than the old White Musk. It is a warm sensuous floral fragrance with a smoky undertone, then when that wears off you are left with the sweet scent of liquorice. The Body Lotion is packaged in a simple...

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

Perfume of the Day – The Body Shop White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

Who remembers the 1990s classic fragrance from The Body Shop, White Musk? I think everyone had a bottle of it at some point! I was never really a fan of White Musk fragrance back then (I was more of a Dewberry girl!) but it was certainly popular, and The Body Shop have recently updated their classic fragrance and created White Musk Smoky Rose. It’s a modern twist on the old favourite, containing notes of cruelty-free musk (synthetically produced I am guessing), black smoky rose and tobacco flower. I have been wearing White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette* for a few days now and I am really loving it. It’s much more of a deep, mysterious fragrance than the old White Musk. The initial scent I get when I spritz on the perfume is a warm sensuous floral fragrance with a smoky undertone, then when that wears off I am left with the sweet scent of liquorice. I love the bottle of this White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de...
