KOREAN BEAUTY Vely Vely – Lipstick in Red Rouge

KOREAN BEAUTY Vely Vely – Lipstick in Red Rouge

I am currently taking part in an initiative working with BNT News International, a global beauty/fashion/lifestyle and entertainment source based in Seoul, South Korea. I am helping BNT to promote a selection of new and exciting Korean beauty products to a UK audience, these are products that you probably won’t have seen before and some of them are really different and unique. You may have already seen some of my previous Korean beauty reviews, such as this post about Magic Capsule Silky Make Up Base from i-MIIX. This is a Vely Vely Lipstick from Korean make-up brand Imvely, I don’t know too much about the brand really but I’m really impressed with the packaging – the sleek black bullet tube is sturdy and well made and would rival anything from MAC. The shade is No 19 Red Rouge, it’s a bright crimson red – very vibrant. I’m a big believer that every girl should own a red lipstick, although I have to admit I don’t wear red very often...

Roger & Gallet – Gingembre Rouge Sorbet Body Lotion

Roger & Gallet – Gingembre Rouge Sorbet Body Lotion

I’ve got another Roger & Gallet product review for you today, it’s Sorbet Body Lotion* from the Gingembre Rouge collection. I previously reviewed the citrusy Cedrat Sorbet Body Lotion last Christmas and really liked it, so I was really looking forward to trying out this candy pink variety. The Body Lotion itself is a pearlised white cream – it’s just the bottle that is pink – but it’s actually nice that it doesn’t have any colourings added. ‘Gingembre Rouge’ translates from French as ‘red ginger’, although personally I don’t think that the fragrance is at all gingery, it’s more fruity with a sweet spicy undertone. The ingredients do include extract of Ginger Root though, plus nourishing Aloe Vera and Pomegranate Oil which is probably where the fruitiness comes from. The Sorbet Body Lotion feels light and refreshing on the skin, perfect for the warmer Summer months, and the tiny pearl flecks within the lotion leave a radiance on the surface of the skin. To build up the fragrance you...

Perfume Of The Day – L’Occitane Cerisier Rouge

Perfume Of The Day – L’Occitane Cerisier Rouge

I got this L’Occitane Cerisier Rouge Eau Intense for Christmas and I’m so in love with it! I first spritzed it in their York shop in December, and then dropped enough hints to my husband that he bought me it. Cerisier Rouge translates as ‘Red Cherry’ and it’s a beautiful sweet fragrance – as well as the scent of cherry it’s got hints of lemon, orange, blackcurrant, raspberry and Lily Of The Valley. It’s not too fruity though, the floral edge really does come through, and it is supposed to replicate the ‘changing beauty of cherry blossom announcing the arrival of Summer days’. It’s my absolute favourite scent at the moment, I wear it every day. It’s so uplifting and fresh – probably more of a Spring/Summer scent than an Autumn/Winter one. It lasts all day, after a few hours the top notes start to disappear and it reduces down to a warming, fruity fragrance. I was also lucky enough to receive a great free gift with my perfume. L’Occitane...

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Chanel’s iconic Rouge Noir nail colour before on Beauty Best Friend! It’s my favourite ever nail shade and one that I go back to time and time again. I particularly love wearing it in the Winter and at Christmas. Launched in 1994 the launch of this dark blood red shade sent women crazy trying to get their hands on it, and it was made even more famous when it was worn by Uma Thurman in the film Pulp Fiction. In its first year sales of Rouge Noir nail polish reached $1 million and a nail legend was born! I know that Chanel nail polishes sometimes get a hard rap from bloggers – they’re expensive and some people have a bad time with them chipping – but I don’t seem to have this problem with mine although I do always use a base coat and a top coat which will help. Rouge Noir looks best worn on its own on short nails – it’s...

Clarins – Rouge Eclat Lipstick in Pink Magnolia

Clarins – Rouge Eclat Lipstick in Pink Magnolia

I have another lipstick review for you today, this one is Rouge Eclat in Pink Magnolia* from Clarins. Rouge Eclat is Clarins’ first age-defying lipstick range containing their Nutri-Youth Complex which protects lips against dehydration and boosts collagen, while Vitamin E protects against free radicals. Pink Magnolia is one of the new shades of Rouge Eclat lipstick – there are now 20 to choose from mainly in varying shades of pink and brown. Pink Magnolia is what I describe as a ‘pinky/reddy/brown’ shade! It’s a dark reddy pink, with brown undertones. It looks more red on the swatch image above, but has more of a pink shade on the lips. Rouge Eclat lipsticks feel really lovely and smooth on the lips, buttery and velvety, very moisturising. It stays that way for hours after you’ve applied it too, it doesn’t dry the lips out or sink into the creases and lines on the lips so I can see it being very good for mature lips. It’s a lovely shade if...

Clarins – Joli Rouge Lipstick in Hot Pink

Clarins – Joli Rouge Lipstick in Hot Pink

This is the third Joli Rouge lipstick from Clarins that I have tested, this one is Hot Pink*, and I have really liked the previous two.  I do think that Clarins keep it quite safe with their make-up range, with predictable – but very wearable – shades. The quality of their make-up products is good too and well worth the premium price. The Joli Rouge lipstick range contains ingredients that help plump and hydrate for full, soft and supple lips, this lipstick has a lovely creamy consistency and applies really nicely. It has a feint fruity strawberry scent which is really nice. Hot Pink is a bright raspberry pink colour and the texture is lovely and buttery and sheer. It applies to the lips so very easily – either with a lip brush or straight from the tube (so long as you have a steady hand!). The swatch image above clearly shows how glossy this colour is. I just love the sophisticated shiny silver bullet tubes too, they look...

Mavala – Rouge Rubis Nail Color

Mavala – Rouge Rubis Nail Color

I received this little gem of a nail colour in my Editor’s Picks collection box from Latest in Beauty. This Rouge Rubis Nail Color from Mavala is small but perfectly formed and could be my new favourite nail colour for Autumn. Rouge Rubis is a dark crimson red with densely packed extremely fine glitter particles. It’s just so glamorous and will be perfect for Autumn/Winter and Christmas parties. The glitter is so fine that you can’t really see it unless you look closely, but it gives the polish an extremely shiny finish. The image above really doesn’t do this shade justice, I just love it, it is SO shiny! I applied two coats of Mavala Rouge Rubis over one coat of Chanel Protective Base Coat and didn’t need a clear top coat as this polish is just so shiny. So far I have been wearing it for 5 days and there hasn’t been any chipping. This little Mavala bottle is only 5ml, but it’s great quality and really affordable....

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #4

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #4

Welcome to the fourth episode of ‘The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick’! I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’. This is the third lipstick that I have tested as part of my hunt – Joli Rouge lipstick in Petal Pink* from Clarins. I am a big user of Clarins skincare products, but I am ashamed to say that this is the first Clarins make-up item I have tried. Petal Pink looks quite a dark pink colour in the tube but the Joli Rouge lipsticks are creamy and sheer with a supple texture so it doesn’t translate as dark...
