W7 – Captain Matte Foundation in Rich Tan

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend may remember that I reviewed Captain Matte Foundation from budget make-up brand W7 last Summer. I really liked the coverage and the texture but the True Beige shade was far too dark for my pale skin and I’ve been tracking down a paler shade ever since. I finally managed to find a shop in York that stocks Captain Matte so that I could try out the testers and work out which was the palest shade, and ironically it’s a shade called Rich Tan! I’ve swatched it in the image below and not blended it so you can see the shade, it’s not a porcelain shade but it is quite pale with a very light tan. Captain Matte Foundation gives a perfect velvety matte finish and covers blemishes and uneven skintone without being too thick – if you have fairly clear skin you don’t really need to use a concealer with this foundation. I really love Kiehl’s products, they are just so simple and no-nonsense, and all of the ingredients and directions are printed clearly on the packaging. This tube of Ultimate Strength Hand Salve came in my Selfridges Christmas Beauty Advent Calendar and I was so pleased with it as it’s the perfect treat for hands in this cold weather. Ultimate Strength Hand Salve is a thick white rich cream and you only need to apply a small amount before massaging in to your hands thoroughly. It can take a little while to soak in, so it’s good to apply it before you go to bed. Ingredients include avocado, eucalyptus and sesame seed oils, and you can really smell the menthol from the eucalyptus oil when you apply it.
