Naked – Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner

Naked – Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner

Those of you who are regular readers of Beauty Best Friend will know that I suffer from a very sensitive, itchy scalp and I am constantly on the hunt for haircare products that are natural and non-irritating but that also treat my hair well and leave it feeling soft, shiny and clean. So far my experience has generally shown me that natural, SLS-free shampoos and conditioners do not irritate the scalp as much as their chemical filled cousins, but that they do not always clean the hair as well and can leave it looking and feeling greasy, sad and lifeless. One of the first SLS-free shampoo and conditioners that I tried, back in 2013, was Mild Shampoo and Gentle Conditioner from Naked. The relief that I got from my itchy scalp was almost instant, but I did find that it didn’t remove grease and oil from my hair too well, and I had to wash my hair a lot more often. Since then I’ve tried lots of different SLS-free haircare...

The best shampoo for a sensitive scalp?

The best shampoo for a sensitive scalp?

Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend blog will know that I suffer from an extremely sensitive scalp which can be really itchy, and I have to be very careful what shampoo I use. I know that I’m sensitive to shampoos containing sodium laureth sulfate (also known as SLS, it’s the ingredient that makes shampoos, shower gels and soaps lather) but I’m also sensitive to some other ingredients in shampoos too – mainly fragrances. I had previously been using Rainforest Balance Shampoo and Conditioner from The Body Shop®, but I found the conditioner a bit too rich and my hair didn’t always feel totally clean after using it. So I started doing a bit of research into recommended natural shampoos – and this Sensitive Shampoo from Lavera kept coming up again and again! Several of the reviews I read said that this was the best shampoo for sensitive scalps and that it left hair feeling really clean and soft, so I decided to try it. The shampoo is a translucent...

Salcura – Sensitive & Dry Scalp Shampoo & Conditioner

Salcura – Sensitive & Dry Scalp Shampoo & Conditioner

I was recently sent a whole host of skincare and haircare products from natural skincare specialists Salcura – you may have already read my review of their Antiac Daily Facial Wash and Activ Liquid Spray. Included in the package was this haircare duo of Shampoo and Conditioner* for sensitive and dry scalps, the aim of which is to ‘deal with a problem scalp and leave hair looking full of vitality’. I have had problems with a dry itchy scalp for about 3 years now, at its worst I visited the doctor who gave me a steroid liquid to apply to my scalp every night before bed. At first it did soothe the itching, but after a couple of weeks it started making my scalp sting and the dry flakes got worse and I vowed then I would treat it myself using gentle natural products. I have found that using sodium laureth sulphate free shampoos do help and the itching isn’t as bad as it used to be, but my...

Queen – Shampoo for Sensitive Skin

Queen – Shampoo for Sensitive Skin

As I sometimes suffer from a senstive itchy scalp I have been trying out this Shampoo* from sensitive skin specialists Queen. Queen have been making hypo-allergenic products since 1927 and have never tested their products on animals. This mild shampoo is particularly suitable for sufferers of dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis and contact dermatitis. I also recently tried out Queen’s Eye Make-Up Remover, you can read that review here. The product is an orange colour with a regular shampoo-like gel consistency, and if you sniff it very closely it does have a very feint coconut scent, due to one of the ingredients being Coconut Diethanolomide. This shampoo contains very few ingredients, although I was surprised to read that it does contain sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) which can sometimes cause skin to be sensitive and can strip oils from skin. The shampoo doesn’t lather very much on the first application, but gives much more bubbles and lather on the second application. It did make my hair feel a bit tangled straight after...

Naked – Mild Shampoo & Gentle Conditioner for Sensitive Scalp

Naked – Mild Shampoo & Gentle Conditioner for Sensitive Scalp

Occasionally I get a really itchy scalp. I’ve visited the doctor about it before and he said there was nothing wrong and just to ‘try using a different shampoo’ – I’ve tried regular shampoo, medicated shampoo and anti-dandruff shampoo, none of which have had any effect. So when I ready about Naked and their natural, gentle products I thought they might be the answer, and I have been trying out Naked Mild Shampoo & Gentle Conditioner for Sensitive Scalp. Naked launched in 2005 and their skincare and haircare products are all at least 97% natural and contain no parabens, sodium laureth sulfate (SLS) or petrochemicals. All Naked products are made in the UK and their packaging is environmentally friendly. We need more brands like this! Naked’s website explains that SLS is a common ingredient used in toiletries to make them foam and cleanse. It is widely used by manufacturers because it’s cheap and effective but it can cause everyday skin complaints from dryness to red, tight itchy skin, and can also aggravate...
