Twig + Dot – Sugar & Spice Hand Poured Candle

Twig + Dot – Sugar & Spice Hand Poured Candle

I first came across this beautiful brand of candles at The City Girls blogger event that I attended in Leeds a few weeks ago where I was lucky enough to pick up a mini Carousel votive candle with scents of marshmallow, vanilla and cream. I immediately fell in love with the plain white jars and simple silver grey branding. All Twig + Dot candles are made from a custom blend of soy and mineral wax and each candle is hand poured in Great Britain. Today I am going to be telling you about one of the new Twig + Dot candle fragrances for Autumn 2015, it’s called Sugar & Spice and it’s scented with sweet vanilla and cinnamon. Sugar & Spice is a warm fragrance, mainly of sweet creamy vanilla but there is just a hint of spicy cinnamon. I like that the cinnamon isn’t too overpowering, it reminds me of a lovely apple pie served with vanilla custard! Sugar & Spice will be launched in the next few...

Home fragrance from Orla Kiely

Home fragrance from Orla Kiely

You might know Orla Kiely as a textile designer and creator of bright prints that feature simple repetitive leaves and floral patterns. But did you know that Orla Kiely also offers a range of home fragrance products that include candles and diffusers? I have to admit that I didn’t, so I was very excited when I was sent this Orange Rind Scented Candle* to try! I love home fragrance products, I think a house that smells good feels so much better to live in, and I’m trying to increase the number of candle and home fragrance reviews that I write here on Beauty Best Friend. Orla Kiely candles come in 9 different scents, I’ve been trying out Orange Rind, but other fragrances include Sicilian Lemon and Rhubarb – they all sound quite zingy which I think matches perfectly with the bold prints of Orla Kiely textiles! I love fruity scents so Orange Rind is perfect for me (although I’m not keen on the ‘Rind’ name, it reminds me of a shrivelled...

Elemis – Quiet Mind Temple Balm

Elemis – Quiet Mind Temple Balm

Quiet Mind Temple Balm is part of Elemis’ new Sp@ Home collection, I’ve already reviewed the Treat Your Feet Foot Cream from that range. This was given to me at Christmas from a good friend who knows that I often have trouble getting off to sleep and this product aims to help promote harmony, tranquillity and relaxation via a blend of natural essential oils. It’s not really a balm at all, more of a clear serum, and the first thing I noticed is that the fragrance is extremely strong. However the initial overpowering scent soon calms down to leave a gentle, soothing fragrance. It also has a slight menthol touch to it which feels cooling on the skin. Quiet Mind Temple Balm is supposed to be applied to the temples, ear lobes and back of the neck, however I’ve been just rubbing a little onto my wrist as I didn’t want it TOO near my nose! Applied just before bed it really does help me to feel relaxed and...

The Body Shop – Frosted Cranberry Home Fragrance Oil

The Body Shop – Frosted Cranberry Home Fragrance Oil

Last week I reviewed Frosted Cranberry Body Butter from The Body Shop® Christmas range, and I loved the scent of it so much that I rushed out to buy the matching Home Fragrance Oil so that my home can smell of the fruity wonder that is Frosted Cranberry this Christmas time! I know it can be hard to describe a scent so that someone else understands what it smells like, the only way I can describe Frosted Cranberry is that it smells like cranberries in the snow. It’s a rich, fruity fragrance with a fresh ‘cold’ undertone, and I much prefer it to all the spicy citrus fragrances that are around at this time of year. I’ve been adding a few drops of The Body Shop® Frosted Cranberry Home Fragrance Oil to my little ceramic oil burner each evening this week, and the lounge and kitchen smell deliciously fruity! I’ve had this oil burner for years, I used to use it with The Body Shop® classic Dewberry Fragrance oil...

Elemis – Treat Your Feet Foot Cream

Elemis – Treat Your Feet Foot Cream

This Treat Your Feet Foot Cream by Elemis was nestled inside the Dream Box that I recently received – this beauty box was a collaboration between Latest In Beauty and British Beauty Blogger. I love the Latest In Beauty collection boxes, they’re always jam-packed full of products from great brands and I love the fact that you can see what’s inside before you order. Treat Your Feet is a thick buttery cream with a warm, spicy patchouli and menthol fragrance. It’s a strange fragrance, a lot of foot creams often have refreshing mint as their underlying scent, but I quite like the mysterious warming fragrance although it is quite strong. I have been applying Treat Your Feet Foot Cream to my feet before bed every night for a week now, it sinks into the skin really quickly and my feet do feel really soft as I slip them under the covers. Elemis have developed this product to specifically target dry skin areas such as heels and ankles and it’s...

Voluspa – French Bourbon Vanille & Branche Vermeil Candles

Voluspa – French Bourbon Vanille & Branche Vermeil Candles

I do seem to have been writing quite a few candle reviews recently, but it is the perfect time of year for them. I love to close the blinds when it gets dark, and light a scented candle – a fragrance can really help to relax you, or to transport you back to a different time and place. A couple of weeks ago I was VERY lucky enough to receive these Voluspa candles*. Voluspa is a luxury US candle brand – fueled by a love for art, fragrance and elegant illumination, Troy and Traci Arntsen created their first scented candle in their kitchen in 1999, and the brand took off from there. I love their traditional style of logo and the ornate tins and packaging. All of Voluxpa’s luxury candles are made from a coconut wax blend which burns slowly and cleanly with no soot or smoke. Both of these candles are from Voluspa’s Seasons collection. French Bourbon Vanille 3 Wick Tin Candle – this is the larger of...

Partylite – Escential Jar Candle in Iced Snowberries

Partylite – Escential Jar Candle in Iced Snowberries

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to a Partylite party by a friend. I’d never heard of Partylite before, but basically it’s a Party Plan type brand that sells candles via home parties and also via its website. The company was started in the US in the early 1900s and in the 1970s developed into a Party Plan business as a way of allowing US women to start working for themselves. The party was good fun and our consultant was really knowledgable, explaining about the ingredients within the candles and how to get the best from them. Although the prices aren’t cheap the candles are really good quality and should burn for a long time with a clear flame – not giving off any soot like cheaper budget counterparts. There are around 50 different fragrances of candles available, and the consultant had a small sample of each one so you could have a sniff and choose your favourite. I just loved the Iced Snowberries fragrance, described as...
