Gentle skincare for you and your baby from Weleda

Gentle skincare for you and your baby from Weleda

So I’m very careful about what I use on a regular basis on my skin, and I’m even more careful about what I use on my baby daughter. OK, so she’s not really a baby any more (she’s pretty much a toddler at 16 months old) but ever since she was born I’ve checked the ingredients of all the products that I’ve used in her bath. For a long time we exclusively used Burt’s Bees products from their Baby Bee range which are great for young skin, but now I’m starting to branch out and try other products. I was sent this Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash from Weleda to try out, and the thing that got me most excited is that it doesn’t contain sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) which is the ingredient that causes a shampoo, shower gel or soap to lather. Instead of SLS this body wash uses coconut and sugar plant-based cleansers. SLS has always caused me a problem, making my skin dry and my scalp...

Say “Yes” to carrots!

Say “Yes” to carrots!

Just a quick review today to talk about these haircare and bodycare products from Yes to… Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend will know that I’m always looking out for new natural skincare and bodycare ranges as I’m passionate about products that don’t contain lots of nasty chemicals. Yes to… is one of these natural brands, based in California their products are always made from at least 95% natural ingredients, are free of parabens, phthalates and SLS, and made with recyclable materials. There are 6 collections, each involves saying ‘Yes to’ a different fruit or vegetable. The products I’ve been trying out are Yes to Grapefruit Rejuvenating Body Wash* and Yes to Carrots Nourishing Shampoo and Pampering Conditioner*. Yes to Grapefruit Rejuvenating Body Wash – the grapefruit range is aimed at those with uneven or dull skintone. This pearlised white shower gel has a gentle zingy grapefruit scent to wake you up in the morning and exfoliating fruit acids help to remove dead skin cells leaving your skin glowing and...

Nailed London – Gel Wear Nail Polishes

Nailed London – Gel Wear Nail Polishes

These are the lovely new Gel Wear polishes* from Nailed London, a new brand launched in September 2015 by Made In Chelsea’s fashion blogger Rosie Fortescue. OK so I have to admit I’m not really down with ‘MIC’ so when I first heard about these polishes I thought they might be a bit of a gimmick, but as soon as I received them I could see that they’re great quality and hopefully the brand is here to stay. There are 28 different shades to choose from, and 4 glitter top coats plus the Base Coat and clear Glossy Top Coat that give these colours their gel finish. The three shades that I’ve been using are: Stormy Violets – a shimmery metallic dusky blue shade that looks great dressed down with jeans Chica Bonita – a snow white that looks chic on its own, plus it provides the perfect matt background to bright nail art Citron-Ella – a zesty primrose yellow that will be perfect for Spring I’ve been wearing...

Roger & Gallet – Bienfaits Invigorating Shower Gel

Roger & Gallet – Bienfaits Invigorating Shower Gel

‘Bienfaits’ is French for ‘benefits’, and this shower gel from Roger & Gallet has been designed to give your skin just that. I’ve already tried their Bienfaits Hand & Nail Cream and really liked it so I was looking forward to trying this Bienfaits Invigorating Shower Gel*. The product itself is a clear gel with a nice sharp citrusy scent, it contains essences of blood orange, mandarin and lemon which is where the zingy scent comes from and it’s the perfect shower gel to use in a morning to help wake you up in the shower. Not only is this Roger & Gallet shower gel invigorating, it also contains soothing aloe vera to help moisturise skin naturally. The formula is soap-free and also free of sulphates, parabens and colours – I always try to avoid sulphates in shower products if I can as I have a rather sensitive scalp which reacts to certain sulphate ingredients. Despite being soap-free and sulphate-free the Bienfaits Invigorating Shower Gel gives quite a good lather...

Can this treatment really cure your acne?

Can this treatment really cure your acne?

I suffered from severe acne in my teens and have suffered on and off from mild acne for the rest of my adult life. In some ways it can be more embarrassing as an adult as everyone assumes that it’s a teenage affliction and that you grow out of it, but not always so. I’ve visited the doctor many times and received several different treatments – none of which have worked for any length of time. Thankfully I have managed to find ways of coping with my acne and hiding it to some extent and I have found that using natural skincare products improves my skin slightly. I was asked a few weeks ago if I would be interested in trying out this Acne Gel from Gladskin, the Acne Gel contains the active ingredient Staphefekt which kills only the bad bacteria that often cause infections during acne. Killing this bacteria can prevent and reduce symptoms such as redness and pimples. The Gladskin website reports that 84% of people who have tried Acne...

Let your make-up sparkle with StarGazer!

Let your make-up sparkle with StarGazer!

Just a really quick review today to tell you about these cute glittery products from StarGazer that I recently picked up. Last Christmas I spent loads of time researching glittery eyeshadow as I wanted something that would really sparkle and stand out – I didn’t end up buying anything as everything that I found was either not glittery enough or it was really expensive…. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when I was in a discount beauty store in York and I spotted these little StarGazer Glitter Shaker pots which cost just £3 each – just what I’d been looking for! The Glitter Shaker contains regular loose cosmetic-grade glitter, there are loads of colours and finishes available but I went for the silver colour as it goes with most things. You also need the StarGazer Glitter Fix Gel to make the glitter adhere to the skin. The Glitter Shaker has little sieve-like holes in the top so you can sprinkle out just as much as you want. I like to put...

Is Sebamed Clear Face skincare the answer for acne?

Is Sebamed Clear Face skincare the answer for acne?

I’d never heard of Sebamed when I was approached by them to see if I would try out some of their products. Their Clear Face collection is a range of products developed for acne prone skin, it reminds me of the sort of thing I would have used back when I was a teenager when there seemed to be loads of this sort of thing around (anyone remember Biactol!?). I was sent a Sebamed Clear Face 3-step skincare regime to try, consisting of Cleansing Bar, Deep Cleansing Facial Toner and Care Gel and I was asked to use them for a month to see what effect they had on my skin. I have combination skin with an oily chin and nose, and I am very prone to spots particularly on my chin, along my jawline and just under my cheekbones. The Clear Face range has been developed to restore skin’s pH level to 5.5 – that of a healthy skin. Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Bar – I just LOVE a...

Dibi Milano – Pure Perfection Sebo-Balance Cream & Cleansing Gel

Dibi Milano – Pure Perfection Sebo-Balance Cream & Cleansing Gel

I’d never heard of Dibi Milano before a couple of weeks ago, but I have a feeling they’re going to be big news over the coming months. It’s one of Italy’s best-selling skincare brands and they’ve recently launched here in the UK. Their products are split into seven product lines, each one targeting a specific skin issue including sensitive skin, dull skin and wrinkles. I was sent two products from the Pure Perfection range, aimed at oily and problem skin, which help to balance the production of sebum (oil) and fight bacterial growth. Pure Perfection Sebo-Balance Cleansing Gel* – this is a translucent pale golden cleansing gel that you can use morning and night to cleanse the skin. I found it a bit strange because you expect it to foam when you apply it but it doesn’t, it works a bit more like a cream cleanser in that you massage it into the skin then rinse it off with warm water. The bottle is very rigid and I found...
