Miners – Eye Make-Up Selection

Miners – Eye Make-Up Selection

A few weeks ago I was sent this eye make-up selection from budget make-up brand Miners, but given the excitement of Christmas and New Year it’s taken me a while to get around to reviewing them. When I think of the brand Miners it reminds me of the very first eyeshadow palette I had as a little girl (a cast-off from my Mum!), it was a pale blue duo and I used it when I was dressing up. I’d forgotten about the brand to be honest, as I’d not seen anything from them for years, but 2014 was the year I was to rediscover Miners and their new, modern cosmetics. This is Define & Line Liquid Eyeliner, the shade is called Blue but to be honest it’s very dark – more of a navy. The applicator is a hard wand which makes it quite easy to apply an even straight line along the lashes. The product is fairly liquid, I thought it was quite watery at first, but the colour is...

Step-by-step guide to the perfect eyeliner

Step-by-step guide to the perfect eyeliner

You may have read my post recently about the launch of Essence make-up in the UK, a fantastically affordable range of make-up exclusive to Wilkinsons. Well here is another of their amazing budget make-up products – the 2in1 Eyeliner Pen. Currently only available in black, this liquid eyeliner pen has 2 felt-tip type nibs – one thin and pointed, and the other thick with a flat nib a bit like a calligraphy pen. I love anything that is multi-use and this liquid eyeliner doesn’t disappoint. The image below shows the thin nib: The image below shows the thick nib: You can use each nib to create a different eye look, or you can use them together to create a look. The thick nib would be perfect to create a dramatic 1960s style eye with no eyeshadow, just a thick line of black liner that wings up to a cats eye and lots of black mascara. The swatch image below shows clearly the line that each nib gives: The liner...

Collection – Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in ‘Hustle’

Collection – Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in ‘Hustle’

I love a glittery eye liner… in fact I love anything glittery! I’ve been a long time user of Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners (you can read my review of their Baked shade  here) but I’ve recently been looking into some budget alternatives and this was the best I’ve come across – Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in Hustle from Collection (formerly Collection 2000). I love to wear a silver glitter eyeliner with a smokey eye in Winter, or in Summer it looks great with a fairly neutral eye topped off with lots of black mascara. The swatch image above shows the grungy gunmetal coloured glitter with an iridescent shine and fairly large glitter flakes. The image above shows the brush, the lid is quite long which makes it a little bit difficult to apply but I like the very fine brush which you can gently drift along the lashline of your top lid. I really like this glitter eyeliner, you can see from the image below that...

L’Oreal Paris – Super Liner in Black Crystals

L’Oreal Paris – Super Liner in Black Crystals

A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the Super Liner Black Lacquer in Black Vinyl from L’Oreal Paris, and today I am reviewing the same liquid eyeliner in Black Crystals. The Super Liner is a black liquid eyeliner in felt tip form. Black Crystals is a deep intense black shade with tiny gold flecks in it. You can just about pick out the gold shimmer from the swatch image below but the gold particles really are tiny. It needs a good shake before each use too to ensure that the gold flecks are evenly distributed throughout the eyeliner. The applicator is a bit like that of a felt tip pen, although the spongy nib is very long and thin and slightly bendy which allows you to apply a really thin line of eyeliner if you want. I actually find this easier than using a liquid eyeliner that has a brush applicator, and I like to apply it AFTER my mascara so that I can get up really close to...

Be A Bombshell – Eye Liner in Onyx

Be A Bombshell – Eye Liner in Onyx

I had never heard of Be A Bombshell before I received this Onyx black Eye Liner in my September Glossybox. The US brand was started in 2011 by makeup fanatic Tonya Thompson and offers an affordable range of basic make-up products. Unfortunately as this is a fairly new US brand I am unable to find their products on sale anywhere in the UK, however I am hoping that Be A Bombshell are dipping their toe in the UK market via Glossybox with a view to later selling their products over here. This Eye Liner is the felt-tip type of liquid eye liner and it’s really easy to use. I definitely prefer liquid eyeliners that come in the form of a pen, they are much easier to apply than the ones that have a little brush. You can see from the swatch image below that the colour is a really dense dark black colour that translates well on to the skin. The Eye Liner has a water resistant formula too,...

Clarins – Crayon Khol in Intense Blue & Platinum

Clarins – Crayon Khol in Intense Blue & Platinum

Another Clarins make-up review, this time it is the new Crayon Khol pencils in Intense Blue and Platinum*. Both are very subtle colours, I do find that Clarins make-up tends to err on the cautious side with nothing too bright or ‘in your face’. Both Crayon Khol pencils come in cardboard packaging in the classic Clarins red colour. Each pencil has a lid at each end, one end has the pencil nib the other end has a useful brush that can be used for blending and smudging the pencil colour to create different effects on the eyelid. Both Intense Blue and Platinum are quite dark colours, and give lovely dense long-lasting coverage. Intense Blue is almost a navy blue, but is a slightly softer colour than a black pencil.I have been wearing Crayon Khol in Intense Blue on my lower lash line, you can see from the image below that it is a dark colour. It would also look good inside the lower lashline, or on the upper lashline...

Jelly Pong Pong – 2-in-1 Eyeliner & Shadow in Black

Jelly Pong Pong – 2-in-1 Eyeliner & Shadow in Black

I received this 2-in-1 Eyeliner & Shadow in black from Jelly Pong Pong in my August Glossybox. My first impressions were mixed – the pencil was a bit scratched despite being in wrapped in a protective plastic, and I would have thought that most people will already have a black eyeliner in their make-up kit and would have preferred if this pencil had come in a different colour. However, I do like multi-tasking products and this pencil doubles up as both an eyeliner and a shadow. The Jelly Pong Pong pencil contains beeswax and has a creamy texture which applies fairly easily in one stroke if you are using it as an eyeliner. The point is rather thick though so it is better suited to thick smudgy sultry eyeliner looks than ones which require a precise thin line. The swatch image below shows the 2-in-1 Eyeliner applied on the left in one stroke, and then smudged with a cotton bud on the right to give more of an eyeshadow...

How to create breathtaking looks with glitter eyeliner

How to create breathtaking looks with glitter eyeliner

I am a massive fan of Urban Decay cosmetics, they have funky packaging, great palettes and I love the use of sparkle, glimmer and glitter within their products. Plus I discovered recently that Urban Decay is a member of Cruelty Free International, meaning that they have acquired the ‘Leaping Bunny’ stamp and their products are not tested on animals. So I decided it was about time that I reviewed one of my favourite Urban Decay products, Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner. Available in 7 glittery shades, these sparkly eyeliners are so much fun, they’re perfect for parties and the festive season. You don’t even need to limit them to your eyes, you can use them to draw patterns onto your face and body too. Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner is basically tiny pieces of glitter held densely within a clear base, and you apply it with the very thin brush that is inside the lid. As the brush is so tiny it only applies a few flakes of glitter at a...
