The Body Shop launch Oils Of Life

The Body Shop launch Oils Of Life

This week The Body Shop® have launched the new Oils Of Life range, a collection of skincare products that all contain a blend of three natural oils – black cumin seed oil, rosehip seed oil and camellia seed oil – known for their supreme revitalising and repairing properties on skin. I’ve been lucky enough to try out a selection of the Oils Of Life products, using them for the past week, and I’ve been pretty impressed so far. Here’s what I think… The Body Shop® Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Essence Lotion – this is a bi-phase lotion which means that it contains both oil and water which separate out when it has been left to stand. I think the proportion of oil to water is fairly small though as the oil only takes up a centimetre or so of space at the top of the bottle. This lotion should be used a bit like a toner, you use it on a cotton wool pad after cleansing to remove the last...

New launches from Kiehl’s

New launches from Kiehl’s

Summer seems to be the time when a lot of skincare brands launch new products, and Kiehl’s is no exception. I have a great relationship with my local Kiehl’s store in York and Laura, the manager there, sent me samples of these two new products to try. If you don’t know much about Kiehl’s it was originally one old world New York pharmacy that was opened in 1851 by a Mr Kiehl and a Mr Morse (poor Mr Morse, he never got his name included in the brand). It offered its customers herbal remedies, over-the-counter drugs, essential oils and the very first Kiehl’s branded products. Fast forward over 150 years and it’s many stores now offer a wide range of skincare and bodycare products that make use of natural ingredients and benefit from Kiehl’s’ medicinal knowledge that has been developed over many years. Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate* – I absolutely love skincare oils, they feel so gentle and natural on the skin. This Daily Reviving Concentrate is the daytime equivalent of Kiehl’s’...

Blue Sparkle & Nude Nails

Blue Sparkle & Nude Nails

I created this Blue Sparkle & Nude nail look using one of my favourite nail polishes and a brand new one. Barry M’s Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee is a nail polish that I love and I use it over and over again, both on it’s own which looks really classy or incorporated in nail art and I have used it here as the nude base underneath the blue sparkly tips. The glittery blue polish is part of the Essence Effect Nail Polish* range and it’s called ‘Party In A Bottle’ which I think is a fun name. If you’ve not heard of Essence before this is because they’ve only recently launched in the UK, you might want to have a read of my post about the UK launch of Essence make-up to find out more. First I painted 2 coats of the Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee over my nails and left to dry. It works really well as a base colour underneath glitters and nail art as...

Step-by-step guide to the perfect eyeliner

Step-by-step guide to the perfect eyeliner

You may have read my post recently about the launch of Essence make-up in the UK, a fantastically affordable range of make-up exclusive to Wilkinsons. Well here is another of their amazing budget make-up products – the 2in1 Eyeliner Pen. Currently only available in black, this liquid eyeliner pen has 2 felt-tip type nibs – one thin and pointed, and the other thick with a flat nib a bit like a calligraphy pen. I love anything that is multi-use and this liquid eyeliner doesn’t disappoint. The image below shows the thin nib: The image below shows the thick nib: You can use each nib to create a different eye look, or you can use them together to create a look. The thick nib would be perfect to create a dramatic 1960s style eye with no eyeshadow, just a thick line of black liner that wings up to a cats eye and lots of black mascara. The swatch image below shows clearly the line that each nib gives: The liner...

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #7

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #7

Welcome to the seventh episode of ‘The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick’! I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’. Today I am reviewing Longlasting Lipstick in 08 Colour Crush from Essence. Essence is a budget make-up brand that has only recently been launched in the UK in Wilkinsons stores, you might want to read my recent post about the UK launch of Essence Make-Up. The black bullet tube is simple and sleek and has a coloured pink band around the centre that matches the colour of the lipstick. I think that for a budget lipstick this one looks...

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

UK Launch of Essence Make-Up

Essence make-up has been around overseas since 2002 but has only recently been launched in the UK. Unfortunately I was unable to make it to their launch party but I was kindly sent a selection of Essence make-up to try. My first impressions of Essence is good, the products and packaging remind me a bit of Rimmel London and I feel they are aimed at girls aged 12-18 although they would suit anyone looking for make-up on a budget. I will be reviewing 3 Essence make-up products today, and I have another couple of items (including a glitter nail varnish) that I will be reviewing over the coming weeks. The first product that I tried was Essence Pureskin Anti-Spot Moisturizing Make-Up*, a light foundation designed to help fight spots and blackheads which contains Clearderm Complex that fights spots and also zinc and bisabolol which help speed up the healing process. The product is fairly light, a bit like a cross between a foundation and a tinted moisturiser and it...

Coola – Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tinted Moisturiser SPF20

Coola – Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tinted Moisturiser SPF20

This Coola Mineral Sunscreen Rose Essence Tinted Moisturiser SPF 20 was in my July Glossybox. I was rather disappointed with the small 7ml size tube as I don’t really feel it is enough to get a good feel for the product, but given the recent sunny weather and the fact that I always like to protect my face from the sun this was a great product for me. If you haven’t heard of Coola before they are an innovative sun protection brand whose products are 97% certified organic and manufactured using solar power. Their mineral sunscreens have a Titanium Dioxide based formula which is perfect for those who are sensitive to Zinc which is found in many off-the-shelf suncreams. This Tinted Moisturiser is fairly thin and liquid-y, making it easy to apply and blend on the skin. It comes out of the tube rather orange, but once it is applied to the skin it just gives a very fine coverage with a light hint of colour – fine for...
