KOREAN BEAUTY I-MIIX – Magic Capsule Silky Make Up Base

KOREAN BEAUTY I-MIIX – Magic Capsule Silky Make Up Base

I am currently taking part in an initiative working with BNT News International, a global beauty/fashion/lifestyle and entertainment source based in Seoul, South Korea. I am helping BNT to promote a selection of new and exciting Korean beauty products to a UK audience, these are products that you probably won’t have seen before and some of them are really different and unique. You may have already seen some of my previous Korean beauty reviews, such as this post about Artclass by Rodin contour palette from Too Cool For School. I’ve got another Korean make-up review for you today, this is Magic Capsule Silky Make Up Base from i-MIIX, it’s a colour correcting primer that you apply underneath your foundation to help even out skintone. Available in five different colours I was sent the green one which promises to tone down any red or pink undertones in the skin. I get quite rosy cheeks, particularly in cold weather, so this was the ideal choice for me. The other product colours...

An instant Instagram filter for your face?

An instant Instagram filter for your face?

New Magic Minerals* minerals powder by Jerome Alexander has been dubbed an ‘instant Instagram filter for the face’. It’s a pressed powder that acts as a foundation, concealer and colour corrector all in one, and I was interested to see if it really lived up to the claims as I really like using a powder foundation and this sounded like something that I hadn’t come across before. A natural mineral make-up with SPF, the pressed powder contains four different coloured powder ‘blobs’ within it, each shade intended to cover or hide a different issue, for example the Mint green shade aims to tone down red complexions. Magic Minerals powder comes in a dark grey mirror compact with a soft stubby brush for applying the powder and a blending sponge. I would say that the packaging isn’t particularly attractive but the cardboard holder does explain the product in detail, including the benefits and the ingredients. I found it quite difficult to get the products out of the packaging though, they’re sealed...

Barry M – Strawberry Ice Cream Nail Paint

Barry M – Strawberry Ice Cream Nail Paint

I think this Barry M Nail Paint in Strawberry Ice Cream has just become one of my favourites! It’s such a pretty pink, perfect for Spring. The nail paint applies fairly thinly – in the image above I have applied two coats, and I think I might try adding a third to give a stronger colour – but on the plus side each thin coat dries really quickly. It is also quite glossy and doesn’t really need a top coat, although you could apply one if you wanted extra shine. It removes really easily from the nails too, just a couple of quick swipes with a cotton wool pad soaked in nail polish remover and it’s gone! Strawberry Ice Cream is a really pretty sugary pink colour, it’s so pretty and girly. It’s been around for ages, I think it’s one of Barry M’s original nail paint colours, but I’ve only just discovered it! I love the range of colours available from Barry M, there’s a shade of Nail Paint for every occasion, and...

Miners – Eye Make-Up Selection

Miners – Eye Make-Up Selection

A few weeks ago I was sent this eye make-up selection from budget make-up brand Miners, but given the excitement of Christmas and New Year it’s taken me a while to get around to reviewing them. When I think of the brand Miners it reminds me of the very first eyeshadow palette I had as a little girl (a cast-off from my Mum!), it was a pale blue duo and I used it when I was dressing up. I’d forgotten about the brand to be honest, as I’d not seen anything from them for years, but 2014 was the year I was to rediscover Miners and their new, modern cosmetics. This is Define & Line Liquid Eyeliner, the shade is called Blue but to be honest it’s very dark – more of a navy. The applicator is a hard wand which makes it quite easy to apply an even straight line along the lashes. The product is fairly liquid, I thought it was quite watery at first, but the colour is...

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Chanel’s iconic Rouge Noir nail colour before on Beauty Best Friend! It’s my favourite ever nail shade and one that I go back to time and time again. I particularly love wearing it in the Winter and at Christmas. Launched in 1994 the launch of this dark blood red shade sent women crazy trying to get their hands on it, and it was made even more famous when it was worn by Uma Thurman in the film Pulp Fiction. In its first year sales of Rouge Noir nail polish reached $1 million and a nail legend was born! I know that Chanel nail polishes sometimes get a hard rap from bloggers – they’re expensive and some people have a bad time with them chipping – but I don’t seem to have this problem with mine although I do always use a base coat and a top coat which will help. Rouge Noir looks best worn on its own on short nails – it’s...

NYC – Expert Last Lip Color in Creamy Caramel

NYC – Expert Last Lip Color in Creamy Caramel

I have to admit I’m not too clued up on budget make-up brand NYC. You can pick up their products in most Superdrug stores for a few pounds, and last year I reviewed their Appleicious Glossy Lip Balms which I really liked. I have to admit I’m a bit put off by NYC’s packaging, I think it looks quite cheap and there are other budget beauty brands who do packaging much better. I love nude and brown lipsticks (almost as much as I love pink lipsticks!) and this one is NYC’s offering – Expert Last Lip Color in Creamy Caramel. There are around 15 different shades of Expert Last Lip Color available, and at just £1.99 each you really can’t afford not to try one! Creamy Caramel is a nutty brown shade, with a creamy texture. It’s quite a pigmented shade but it’s definitely not matt as it has a subtle sheen to it. It has a lovely creamy soft luxurious feeling when it is on the lips and...

Zoya – LFW SS15 Nail Polish Predictions

Zoya – LFW SS15 Nail Polish Predictions

London Fashion Week SS15 is a celebration and showcase of some of the world’s leading fashion talent. Not only will it shape what we’re all wearing next Spring and Summer, it’s also going to have a knock on effect on the beauty trends that we all follow too. I’m lucky enough to be working alongside nail polish experts Zoya, looking at some of the leading trends that came out of London Fashion Week and discussing how they might shape the UK nail polish horizon in 2015. (Zoya have a great range of nail polishes perfect for Autumn and Winter too – if you’re looking for something to wear in the next couple of months check out their Fall 2014 collection full of moody dark neutral shades and liquid metal shimmers). Zoya offers a huge range of toxin-free nail polishes (there are over 300 shades to choose from) free of the top 5 toxins usually found in nail polishes – formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, dibutyl phthalate and camphor – that...

Ciate – Paint Pots in Pocket Money

Ciate – Paint Pots in Pocket Money

How stunning do Ciate Paint Pots look with their unique bottle shape and little black bow?! This is Pocket Money, and it’s the first Ciate nail polish that I ever purchased. Ciate (pronounced ‘See-are-tey’) is a London brand and they’re always bringing out innovative new nail products including their recent Shell Manicure whereby you sprinkle a layer of shimmery crushed shells directly onto a layer of wet nail polish. Check out the Ciate website to view their full range of nail polishes and special effects. Pocket Money is a creamy caramel colour with quite a glossy finish – very chic, it’s one of my favourites and I always receive nice comments when I’m wearing it. The brush is made up of 250 bristles and is flat and wide which means that it takes less strokes to apply the polish across the whole nail and makes it quicker and easier to get a neat finish. As I’ve already mentioned I love Ciate’s packaging, the uniquely shaped bottles are set off...
