Moogoo – Oil Cleansing Method

Moogoo – Oil Cleansing Method

Apologies again that it’s been a while since I last posted. You may recall that I’d been helping out a local charity with their website? Well that is all completed now but I’ve had some other family stuff going on and with looking after my baby daughter spare time for blogging is pretty scarce at the moment. I haven’t lost my enthusiasm though and am busy planning all sorts of new posts for the future, so watch this space! Today I wanted to tell you all about a fantastic natural brand, Moogoo. Regular readers of Beauty Best Friend may recall that I reviewed their Full Cream Moisturiser last year, but having received this Oil Cleansing Method* cleanser in a goody bag from a blogger event a couple of months ago it fired up my love for them all over again! MooGoo is an Australian natural skincare brand that was first created when the founder adapted a cream used in dairy farms to help a family member with a skin...

Micellar Water – should you believe the hype?

Micellar Water – should you believe the hype?

I feel like I’m the last blogger on earth to review a Micellar Water cleanser, reviews of this type of product were all the rage a few months ago but I thought I would wait for the hype to die down before trying it out for myself. I received this 125ml bottle of Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water in my July ‘My Little Box’ and was excited to see if it lived up to all of the great reviews that I’d seen. ‘Micellar’ is pronounced ‘my cellar’ and it refers to the chemical structure of the product which contains clusters of microscopic oil molecules called ‘micelles’ that attract dirt and grease. The best way to use the product is to apply some to a cotton wool pad then sweep it across the face to remove make-up and dirt, although if you are wearing full make-up you’ll probably need to go through 4 or 5 cotton wool pads to completely clean your face. The thing that I love about this Micellar...

Salcura Bioskin cleansers for sensitive or eczema-prone skin

Salcura Bioskin cleansers for sensitive or eczema-prone skin

If you’re a regular reader of Beauty Best Friend then you may have read my previous reviews of some of Salcura’s skincare products for sensitive or problem skins. Their Antiac range is one of my favourite collections of products for acne-prone skin, and today I am going to be reviewing their new Bioskin range of cleansers for sensitive or eczema-prone skin. One of the main reasons that I love Salcura is that all of their products are made from natural ingredients and contain no SLS (sodium laureth sulphate), synthetic fragrances, parabens, paraffin, phthalates or lanolin. These ingredients are known to cause irritation or discomfort to some skins (I can’t use SLS on my scalp as it makes it itchy and sore) and this is why Salcura uses natural alternatives. Bioskin Body Cleanser* – this is a body cleanser aimed at those with dry and sensitive skin although I would recommend it to anyone. The ingredients are 97% natural, including nourishing Sea Buckthorn for skin healing and repair, Starflower to nourish and hydrate...

Flint Plus Flint – Skincare Range

Flint Plus Flint – Skincare Range

I was sent this selection of products, it’s the Flint Plus Flint (or Flint+Flint) new range of skincare. You may not have heard of Flint+Flint, they’re a UK-based family run business – founders Max and Adam have run a chain of cosmetic clinics across England for some time, and after recommending skincare products to their clients for the past 10 years decided to create their own. I really like the sleek, grey unisex packaging with the bright coloured crosses, the products look very different from anything else you’d see on the shelf. Once you open a box too, the corresponding colour greets you inside… So I was sent a selection of 4 Flint+Flint skincare products to try out, and here’s what I thought of them: Glycolic Cleanser* – this is a glycolic wash that uses 12% glycolic acid to gently exfoliate the skin and remove dead cells. You apply the gel to your face then leave for 2 minutes before rinsing off. The product is a clear gel with a...

Zuzka Natural Beauty – Skincare Selection

Zuzka Natural Beauty – Skincare Selection

The name “Zuzka”  is slovakian for Susan, and Zuzka Natural Beauty was named by owner Susan Kohutova inspired by her Slovakian husband. Medical research shows that significant amounts of cosmetic ingredients (including some carcinogenic substances) penetrate the skin & end up in the blood stream – with this in mind, only certified organic herbs, plants & flowers free from pesticides & chemicals are used in Zuzka cosmetics. They are also free from harsh detergents, sodium lauryl sulphate, synthetic ingredients, parabens, animal ingredients or artificial fragrance. I was sent three Zuzka skincare products to try – Organic Precious Oil, Coconut Cream Cleanser and Cool Blue Contour Day Cream.     Organic Precious Oil Created for oily/problematic skin Organic Precious Oil contains calendula, soya & jojoba oils blended with organic essential oils including lavender, tea tree & lemongrass. The citrusy scent of the lemongrass really comes through, it smells divine and warming. I have combination skin with an oily chin and nose and I regularly suffer with spots and blemishes. I’ve been applying...

Liz Earle – Cleanse & Polish

Liz Earle – Cleanse & Polish

You’ve pretty much got to have been living under a rock for the past 5 years to not have heard of Liz Earle’s wonder-cleanser Cleanse & Polish. Loads of bloggers rave about it and it’s forever popping up in people’s top 5 skincare product lists. So I treated myself to it at Christmas to see what all the hype is about…. I went for the Limited Christmas Edition starter kit, which included a 150ml pump bottle of Cleanse & Polish, 2 muslin cloths and an instruction card all nestled inside a Wintery floral tube. I love the fact that the set includes 2 muslin cloths, so one can be in the wash while you’re using the other. Cleanse & Polish is basically a two-step process – you Cleanse using the cream cleanser, I find that one and a half pumps is about right, you massage it into your skin in a circular movement – just like you would with any other cleanser. Then you Polish the skin and remove the...

Thea – Face Renew Skin Brightening System

Thea – Face Renew Skin Brightening System

I was recently sent a sample of Face Renew Fruit Enzyme Creme Cleanser and Creme Moisturiser from organic skincare brand Thea, these are from their Skin Brightening System range which aims to brighten and revive dull skin using a blend of fruit enzyme extracts. The fruit enzymes gently exfoliate the skin without the need for exfoliating scrubs or other harsh products. The samples I got to try were quite small, just 15ml each. Both of the products are a thick off-white cream with a strong lemony scent – they felt a bit like rubbing lemon cheesecake over your face! I love the citrusy scent but it might not be for you if you’re not keen on strongly perfumed products. The Face Renew Fruit Enzyme Creme Cleanser removes foundation and other face make-up quite well, but isn’t so good at removing eye make-up so I did have to use a make-up remover first. The Face Renew Fruit Enzyme Creme Moisturiser feels quite rich on the skin, and whilst I have...

Eucerin – Dermo Purifyer Cleanser

Eucerin – Dermo Purifyer Cleanser

When I was asked by Escentual if I wanted to try out this Dermo Purifyer Cleanser* from Eucerin I jumped at the chance, I’ve been hearing really good things about this German brand recently particularly for those with sensitive or problem skin. Not only did I receive the cleanser, but a whole host of mini Eucerin skincare samples to try out as well (as you can see from the image below)! I had assumed that this Dermo Purifyer Cleanser would be a creamy wipe-off cleanser, but it’s actually a foaming wash-off cleanser, so I’ve been using it every morning as I like to use a wash-off cleanser after I’ve got up to quickly cleanse and freshen my skin (quick and easy to use in the shower too). It’s a clear soapy liquid with no fragrance, once mixed with a little water and rubbed in the hands it foams well and it easily removes make-up too. The product is aimed at those with acne or problem skin as it helps...
