Chanel – Precision Lip Definer in Natural

Chanel – Precision Lip Definer in Natural

I love a good lip liner pencil but I think they’re getting a bit overlooked these days in favour of other more trendy make-up products such as brow pencils. When it comes to lip pencils I think there are some great ones out there and there’s something to suit every budget. I’ve always had a bit of a thing for Chanel lip pencils, they last for ages and they have a cute little lip brush on the other end. My latest purchase is Chanel Precision Lip Definer pencil in the shade 34 Natural. It’s a nude brown shade, not too pale and not too dark. Nude lips have been such a thing for ages now and they work so well when you’re wearing a look where the focus is on the eyes. This pencil works with both pinky-toned and browny-toned lipsticks, my favourite at the moment is Japanese Maple from Mac that I reviewed last year. You can see from the swatch image above that Natural does have pinky...

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

Chanel – Nail Colour in Rouge Noir

I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Chanel’s iconic Rouge Noir nail colour before on Beauty Best Friend! It’s my favourite ever nail shade and one that I go back to time and time again. I particularly love wearing it in the Winter and at Christmas. Launched in 1994 the launch of this dark blood red shade sent women crazy trying to get their hands on it, and it was made even more famous when it was worn by Uma Thurman in the film Pulp Fiction. In its first year sales of Rouge Noir nail polish reached $1 million and a nail legend was born! I know that Chanel nail polishes sometimes get a hard rap from bloggers – they’re expensive and some people have a bad time with them chipping – but I don’t seem to have this problem with mine although I do always use a base coat and a top coat which will help. Rouge Noir looks best worn on its own on short nails – it’s...

Delicate Pink Glitter Nails

Delicate Pink Glitter Nails

I was having a play with some nail varnishes the other day and came up with this delicate pale pink glittery look. I really love it, it’s very demure and pretty, so I thought I would share it. I think it would look perfect worn by a bride on her wedding day, as it’s very subtle and wouldn’t detract from the dress. The base shade of pink that I used was Rose Cache from Chanel, it’s a pale nudey pink with a very slight 2-tone lilac shimmer to it. When you wear it on its own it almost looks like you’re not wearing a colour, just healthy pink nails, and it works perfectly with a white tip for a classic French manicure. I know a lot of people don’t like Chanel nail colours as they’re fairly expensive and a lot of bloggers have reported chipping, but I do have to say that I have a few different Chanel shades and I really like them. True, they are expensive, but...

Silver Bow Nail Art Tutorial

Silver Bow Nail Art Tutorial

Here is my simple step-by-step guide to creating this pretty Silver Bow Nail Art. Here is the kit that you will need: A pale coloured nail polish – I used MUA Nail Polish in Natural Days A black coloured striping nail polish – I used Orly Instant Artist Colour in Jet Black A clear top coat nail polish – I used Chanel Extreme Shine Nail Lacquer A pack of silver bow nail stickers First, paint all of your nails with the pale coloured polish and allow the nails to dry thoroughly. Once the polish on your nails is completely dry create a stripe over the end of each nail using the striping nail polish (this takes a very steady hand) and leave to dry. The Orly Instant Artist striping polish that I used is water based, so you can wash the stripes away if you don’t get them quite right first time…. but don’t get your hands wet while your perfect stripes are drying or they will just wash off! I think this...

Chanel – Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Noir Cendre

Chanel – Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Noir Cendre

I agree that eyebrow pencils aren’t really a very exciting product, but an essential one nonetheless. Chanel’s Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil is a really great product – it has the pencil at one end and a brush at the other end, both covered with a cap. I have been using Noir Cendre which translates from French as ‘black ash’ and it’s a good description of the colour. Although I have fair hair I do like to use a black eyebrow pencil, this useful Chanel pencil has a light powdery texture and it requires a lot of light feathery strokes to gradually build up the colour so it’s really easy to get a natural result – there’s nothing worse than thick black ‘drawn-on’ eyebrows. My only complaint that it is rather long and won’t fit in my makeup bag, I have had to sharpen the pencil end to make it a bit shorter! I do like cosmetics that double up and provide more than one function, and Chanel’s Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil is one of those products....

Blue Glitter Accent Nail

Blue Glitter Accent Nail

You may have seen my post last week about my Barry M Nail Paint haul….. well here is the first look I have created using the Aqua Glitter nail paint. It is a simple accent nail look, using 2 coats of Chanel Nail Colour in Blue Boy on all nails, and then 2 coats of the sparkly Barry M paint on the ring finger to create an eye-catching accent nail. I then finished off the look with a coat of clear top coat on all nails to give a nice shiny finish and to help seal in the glitter on the accent nail. These two colours work really well together. I have found that the Barry M Aqua Glitter works best over another colour as the glitter coverage is rather thin on its own and it requires at least 3 good coats to give a nice even glitter coverage. Here it is on my toes after 3 coats, I think it looks OK but if I’m using a glitter...

Gold Sparkle Nail Art

Gold Sparkle Nail Art

Welcome to my first nail art post! I created this look using two of my favourite nail polishes – Chanel’s ‘Trapeze’ which is a pale browny-gold colour and Barry M’s sparkly ‘Yellow Topaz Glitter’. For me the Chanel polish is too pale to use on its own, but is perfect as a base for nail art, allowing other colours and glitters to stand out over the top of it. First I painted 2 coats of the Chanel ‘Trapeze’ over my nails and left to dry. Then I painted a coat of the Barry M ‘Yellow Topaz Glitter’ over the top about halfway down each nail. After this coat had dried I painted another coat of the Barry M, this time only about one third of the way down each nail, this way it gives a gentle graded effect to the glitter. I finished with a clear top coat which stops the glitter feeling rough, and gives a lovely sheen. This sparkly gold nail art look is subtle and glamorous and perfect...

Chanel Nail Colour – Orange Fizz

Chanel Nail Colour – Orange Fizz

Well here it is, the one you’ve been waiting for, my first post! As the weather is becoming a bit warmer (and it’s about time too!) I thought I would review one of my favourite Summery nail colours – Chanel’s Orange Fizz. Being a jewellery designer I don’t wear nail varnish as much as I’d like to, working with metalwork tools and fiddly little bits of silver mean that the colour chips pretty quickly, but I do love having colour on my nails when I can. This is a fairly pricey colour at £18, but I do find that Chanel’s nail colours can last quite a long time without chipping, and so I don’t mind paying the extra. Having said that, you do need to paint it on fairly thickly in order to get a good coverage – here I have used 2 thick coats (3 thinner coats works fine too), and I often finish it with a clear top coat to give a nice shine. This is a lovely Summery coral orange colour and...
