Make a difference with Body Butter from The Body Shop

Make a difference with Body Butter from The Body Shop

Did you know….. that The Body Shop® launched their iconic Body Butters 24 years ago with just three flavours? For almost a quarter of a century now, people have been moisturising with Body Butter, and there are now 17 fragrances to choose from. I remember discovering the Shea Body Butter when I was a teenager (I’m showing my age now!) and being really impressed with how soft and smooth my legs felt after applying it before a night out. And despite trying many other body moisturising products along the years I’ve regularly come back to the sheer richness of The Body Shop® Body Butters. Body Butters also contain natural ingredients that have been sourced through The Body Shop® unique Community Trade Programme, so each purchase helps to change the lives of communities around the world. For example, sourcing Shea Butter from Ghana has helped fund water pipes and wells, and the Argan Oil comes from co-operatives in Morocco providing their women with a fair and regular income enabling them...

Essential oils for the cold weather

Essential oils for the cold weather

I love the idea of aromatherapy and what it can achieve, being able to change your mood just by inhaling a couple of drops of plant oil, even being able to heal the body by performing a simple massage. Essential oils start from just a couple of pounds for the cheaper ones but you really need to be careful and make sure you buy good quality – some suppliers dilute their oils or take the oil from the wrong part of the plant in order to try and save costs. I’ve recently discovered Buff & Butter, suppliers of aromatherapy oils and candle-making supplies. Their 100% natural essential oils can be purchased in varying size bottles – ideal for both those who are just dipping their toe in the world of aromatherapy and practitioners who want to buy in bulk. I chose five essential oils that are ideal for the cold weather: Lavender – chances are you’ve heard about the therapeutic benefits of lavender oil already. It’s so versatile and I just...

No more stretch marks with Mama Mio!

No more stretch marks with Mama Mio!

Being pregnant and having a new baby are stressful enough times without having to worry about stretch marks. I’ve recently given birth to a baby girl and despite religiously applying creams and butters to my tummy every night I have been left with a few small red stretch marks around my belly button. Thankfully there’s not many of them and they’re not too obvious, but it would be nice to get rid of them so that I can wear a bikini again. So what are stretch marks?  Stretch marks are streaks or lines that appear on the skin and they’re caused by rapid expansion of the skin when the middle layer of skin (dermis) breaks in places, allowing the deeper layers to show through. They start off as pink or purple lines and eventually fade to a silvery white colour, and they’re most common on the tummy, buttocks, breasts and thighs. Stretch marks are particularly common during pregnancy (about 8 out of 10 expectant mothers get some) usually appearing...

Luxurious Bodycare from London Butterflies

Luxurious Bodycare from London Butterflies

I’d never heard of London Butterflies before I was sent these luxurious bodycare products to try, but the first thing that impressed me was the beautiful packaging. From the pretty printed boxes with silver printing to the heavy glass jars inside, everything here has been thought about really well. The London Butterflies range is split into 4 distinct collections – Naturals, Florals, Fruits & Facial – and I have been lucky enough to try out products from 3 of these collections: Whipped Body Cream – this is from the florals collection and you will know why as soon as you smell it! The ingredients include Winter Jasmine and Starflower with Sweet Almond Oil. It’s a light white body cream with the perfect jasmine scent – I usually go for fruity fragrances over floral ones but this one is so delicate and pretty that I defy anyone not to like it! It feels really luxurious when you massage it into the skin and it sinks in really quickly leaving skin feeling silky...

The Body Shop – Frosted Cranberry Body Butter & Glazed Apple Hand Cream

The Body Shop – Frosted Cranberry Body Butter & Glazed Apple Hand Cream

I’ve got another duo from The Body Shop® festive ‘Sweet Treat’ bodycare range for you today – Frosted Cranberry Body Butter* and Glazed Apple Hand Cream*. Both of these festive lovelies would make a great stocking filler this Christmas (or you could just keep them for yourself!). Frosted Cranberry Body Butter – In my opinion The Body Shop® do the best body butters! You can get cheaper ones elsewhere but they’re not always as rich and moisturising as the ones from The Body Shop®. My personal favourite is the Shea Body Butter, but I also love the coconut and pink grapefruit varieties (you can read my previous review of The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter here). Frosted Cranberry is one of the new Christmas 2014 scents from The Body Shop® and it’s available in several different products, including this body butter. The scent is both sweet and sharp at the same time, and reminds me of something from my childhood although I’m not sure what! This Frosted Cranberry Body...

Treacle Moon – My Coconut Island Body Butter

Treacle Moon – My Coconut Island Body Butter

It’s really handy being able to pick up your beauty products from the supermarket when you do your weekly shop, and Treacle Moon is a funky budget body care brand from Tesco – a range of fruit scented shower gels, hand wash, body scrubs and body butters. All of the products are priced at £4 or less, great value for a busy family or students on a budget. I was sent this My Coconut Island Body Butter* to try as I’m a big fan of fruity body butters. The Body Shop are usually my go-to brand for these so it was nice to try something else to compare. Firstly I love the packaging and labelling, the simple and practical tub has a little quote on the lid which really conjures up the sights and sounds of a beautiful deserted desert island. The body butter itself is a little softer than I had expected, it’s more of a thick body lotion rather than a body butter (not nearly as thick...

The Body Shop – Ginger Sparkle Body Butter & Mango Lip Butter

The Body Shop – Ginger Sparkle Body Butter & Mango Lip Butter

In early January I went into The Body Shop store in York and they were having a post-Christmas sale whereby all of their yummy body butters had been reduced to £5 each and the lip butters had been reduced to £3 each. I purchased this mini-haul of butters as I just love their body butters and I was a bit low on lip balm and once I had sniffed this mango lip butter in the store I was smitten, I just love fruity scents. The Ginger Sparkle Body Butter was a limited edition Christmas fragrance, and I was excited to get my hands on this as I love the smell of ginger. I have found that the scent is quite citrussy and limey rather than gingery though, it should be called ‘Lime with a hint of Ginger’ – it’s still lovely but not as Christmassy and spicy as I had hoped. I had also assumed from its name that Ginger Sparkle Body Butter would have some sort of shimmer...

Greenscape – Organic Cocoa Butter Foaming Hand Wash

Greenscape – Organic Cocoa Butter Foaming Hand Wash

In my recent quest to replace all of my everyday skincare and bodycare products with ones containing natural or organic ingredients I came across the Greenscape Organic Skin Care range. Greenscape is a range of organic skincare – premium, ethically produced natural organic skin and body care products made with love and the greatest of care – founded in 1999 in the UK. All of Greenscape’s products exclude parabens, mineral oils, synthetic colourings and aggressive skin cleansing agents. Greenscape offer product ranges based around 4 main ingredients – shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil and honey – with 5 products in each range. I needed a new hand wash for the bathroom, and I chose the Organic Cocoa Butter one as I love the scent of creamy cocoa butter and it was also the most neutral colour for my bathroom. I wanted a product that looked good in the bathroom and this doesn’t disappoint, the bottle looks classy and I think it almost rivals Molton Brown in the looks...
