Is this the best budget highlighter ever?

Is this the best budget highlighter ever?

Highlighters have been my favourite product of 2016, and if there’s one product that I’ve wanted to try over all the rest it’s Vivid Baked Highlighter from Makeup Revolution. Makeup Revolution is the budget beauty brand that really made a splash when it was introduced a couple of years ago, and I’ve read so many amazing reviews of their pressed powder highlighter that costs just £3 that I couldn’t resist trying it. This is a real beauty bloggers favourite product, I haven’t met anyone that hasn’t liked it! There are 4 shades in the Vivid Baked Highlighter range, I opted for Golden Lights. It’s a multi-use baked highlighting powder in white lustre with a golden shimmer. Of course you can use it to light up the cheekbones, but it’s also great for using as an eyeshadow (just smudge a tad under the brow arch using the ring finger), highlighting collarbones or shoulders in Summer, dusting over the décolleté area or using sparingly for contouring to highlight temples, cheekbones, the tip...

Budget eye make-up from W7

Budget eye make-up from W7

I love discovering great budget make-up products and W7 is one of my favourite brands for this. A couple of months ago I reviewed a selection of their affordable lip products, and today I’m going to be telling you about some of their eye make-up… W7 Pearl Eyes pencils* – first up are these chunky eye pencils in Park Lane and Easy Does It. Park Lane is a dark chestnut brown and Easy Does It is a reddy bronze. Both shades have a pearlised shimmer to them and smudge nicely with a cotton bud. In the swatch image below, from left to right – Park Lane, Easy Does It. Park Lane is easily my favourite and has replaced my trusty black eyeliner for a while now. I just draw on a little at the outer corners of both my upper and lower lash lines then smudge with a cotton bud for a low key look. You could also use them all over the eyelid as a shadow, they’re long...

More dupes from W7 – Hollywood Bronze & Glow and Banana Dreams

More dupes from W7 – Hollywood Bronze & Glow and Banana Dreams

Did you see my review three weeks ago about a selection of budget lip products from W7? Well today I’m back with another W7 review, this time it’s a duo of face powders. I love W7 make-up, they have some great cheap dupes for more well-known premium products and I think it’s a shame that it’s not a more popular brand. I think it’s probably because W7 is not readily available on the high street and you sometimes have to search around on the internet for it, but there are always loads of W7 products available cheap on Amazon. Banana Dreams Loose Powder – this is a new loose powder with a yellow tint to it, it aims to correct surface redness and pink undertones, as well as neutralise blue under eye circles. I often get quite rosy pink cheeks so I’ve found that this powder works really well for me, although if you already have a yellow-toned or olive skin then you’d want to go for something with more...

The budget W7 Bronzer/Blusher/Highlighter palette you can’t live without!

The budget W7 Bronzer/Blusher/Highlighter palette you can’t live without!

I really love discovering new products from budget beauty brand W7, they’re so affordable and yet they so often produce amazing dupes for cult beauty items from other brands. You might have seen my review of W7 Night Glow liquid highlighter a couple of weeks ago which is a complete dupe for Benefit High Beam. I spotted the Cheeky Trio palette on Amazon it’s a pressed powder palette containing a bronzer, blusher and highlighter and it reminds me a bit of Sleek Face Form Contour Palettes (but this W7 option is much cheaper at under a fiver!) I’ve been looking for a good highlighting powder for ages so I thought I’d give it a go… The three powder shades are called Dream Machine (bronzer), 5th Avenue (blusher) and Hot Stuff (highlighter). The surfaces of the powders are rippled which look quite effective in the palette but I did find it made it a little bit difficult to swish your brush over them evenly! The image above shows swatches of the three...

EBay Budget Nail Art Supplies

EBay Budget Nail Art Supplies

I love finding bargains on EBay, there’s just about everything you can think of on there (and a lot more besides), and it always shocks me at how many items you can pick up for just 99p including postage! So I decided to show my readers some of the nail art inspired bargains I’ve bought from EBay over the past few months. You may recognise these French Nail Tip Stickers as the ones that I used in my Neon Chevron French Mani Tutorial last Summer. They’re basically sheets of little sticker strips that you peel off and stick onto the nail just below the tip, then you paint your white tip (or whatever colour you fancy) and remove the sticker and… hey presto, you get a lovely neat straight line on your nail tip. The stickers pictured above include straight edges, plus chevrons and hearts, and you get 10 sheets. You don’t need to just use white polish for your nail tips, you could use brights like I’ve done with...

W7 – Kiss Lipstick in Scarlet Fever

W7 – Kiss Lipstick in Scarlet Fever

I usually try to avoid bright red lipsticks as I feel they’re a bit too bright for me, so when W7 recently sent me this Kiss Lipstick in Scarlet Fever* to try I was a bit nervous! It looks so bright in the tube I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. My old opinion of W7 was that they were a bit cheap, but they’ve recently launched some great products and their packaging has really improved, plus there’s so much choice – they literally have hundreds of products to choose from. I recently reviewed W7 Captain Matte Foundation and it has turned out to be one of my favourites. The downside of this Kiss Lipstick is that although the price is low, you don’t get very much lipstick for your money – the lipstick in the image above is fully extended, so it wouldn’t last very long if you were wearing it every day. I’ve already mentioned that Scarlet Fever is a bright red, and it has...

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation & The Fixer Face Spray

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation & The Fixer Face Spray

I’ve got another review of products from budget beauty specialists W7 for you today, it’s Captain Matte Foundation* and The Fixer Face Spray*. W7 was created in 2002 and now boasts over 500 products, unfortunately they’re not very often readily available on the high street and you may sometimes need to resort to Ebay or Amazon to track them down. I recently created a Neon Chevron French Mani look for Summer using two of W7’s nail polishes, and I was quite impressed with the products. Captain Matte Foundation – despite the cheesy name this is a rather good matte finish foundation. I was sent the True Beige shade which is far too dark for my pale skin, but in the interests of beauty blogging I did try it out and I loved it! It gives a perfect velvety matte finish and covers blemishes and uneven skintone without being too thick. I applied it using my Bobbi Brown Foundation Brush but I think it would also apply well using a...

Step-by-step guide to the perfect eyeliner

Step-by-step guide to the perfect eyeliner

You may have read my post recently about the launch of Essence make-up in the UK, a fantastically affordable range of make-up exclusive to Wilkinsons. Well here is another of their amazing budget make-up products – the 2in1 Eyeliner Pen. Currently only available in black, this liquid eyeliner pen has 2 felt-tip type nibs – one thin and pointed, and the other thick with a flat nib a bit like a calligraphy pen. I love anything that is multi-use and this liquid eyeliner doesn’t disappoint. The image below shows the thin nib: The image below shows the thick nib: You can use each nib to create a different eye look, or you can use them together to create a look. The thick nib would be perfect to create a dramatic 1960s style eye with no eyeshadow, just a thick line of black liner that wings up to a cats eye and lots of black mascara. The swatch image below shows clearly the line that each nib gives: The liner...
