W7 – Kiss Lipstick in Scarlet Fever

W7 – Kiss Lipstick in Scarlet Fever

I usually try to avoid bright red lipsticks as I feel they’re a bit too bright for me, so when W7 recently sent me this Kiss Lipstick in Scarlet Fever* to try I was a bit nervous! It looks so bright in the tube I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off. My old opinion of W7 was that they were a bit cheap, but they’ve recently launched some great products and their packaging has really improved, plus there’s so much choice – they literally have hundreds of products to choose from. I recently reviewed W7 Captain Matte Foundation and it has turned out to be one of my favourites. The downside of this Kiss Lipstick is that although the price is low, you don’t get very much lipstick for your money – the lipstick in the image above is fully extended, so it wouldn’t last very long if you were wearing it every day. I’ve already mentioned that Scarlet Fever is a bright red, and it has...

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #7

The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick #7

Welcome to the seventh episode of ‘The hunt for the perfect pink lipstick’! I am on the hunt… the hunt for the perfect pink lipstick that is ‘MLBB’ or ‘my lips but better’. You know, the sort of colour that looks from a distance like you’re not wearing lipstick, like you just have naturally pink, plump perfect lips. The sort of colour you can just slick on from the tube and doesn’t need painstaking application with liner and lipbrush. The sort of colour that looks like ‘my lips, but better’. Today I am reviewing Longlasting Lipstick in 08 Colour Crush from Essence. Essence is a budget make-up brand that has only recently been launched in the UK in Wilkinsons stores, you might want to read my recent post about the UK launch of Essence Make-Up. The black bullet tube is simple and sleek and has a coloured pink band around the centre that matches the colour of the lipstick. I think that for a budget lipstick this one looks...

Sigma – Flare Eyeshadow Palette

Sigma – Flare Eyeshadow Palette

As soon as I saw this Sigma Flare Eyeshadow Palette online I knew I just had to have it! The bright vibrant colours caught my eye, and having read a lot of great things about Sigma products recently I decided to order this direct from Sigma in the USA. The palette is made from the hard board type of packaging (similar to the sort that is used for Benefit products) so it would scratch and mark easily, but I think it looks beautiful with its bright geometric design and gold Sigma logo. All of the eyeshadow shades in this Flare palette are vibrant and bright. The palette includes a double ended brush which is extremely soft – Sigma really are experts at making make-up brushes. The individual shadows have been named too which is something that I do like in a palette (plus it makes it easier to reference them in a blog post!). All of the shadows have a nice texture and are easy to apply. I sometimes...

Lancome – Gloss In Love in Under The Spotlight

Lancome – Gloss In Love in Under The Spotlight

This Gloss In Love lipgloss was another Lancome sample that I got in my Selfridges Beauty Advent Calendar, but as it’s such a popular product I wanted to review it and let my readers know what I thought of it. Under The Spotlight (number 385) is a raspberry pink with lots of shimmer and shine, but it’s not too bright. It’s probably not the sort of colour I would normally choose for myself (I usually stick to pale pinks and nude browns) but one of the reasons that I love trying out trial sizes and samples so much is that you end up having a go with things that you wouldn’t always try out and sometimes you find a real gem. You can clearly see the shimmer in the swatch image above, and this shimmer really adds to the glossy shine when it is on the lips. It applies to the lips easily using the felt applicator inside the lid, the pointed end is great for defining the top...

Clarins – Joli Rouge Lipstick in Hot Pink

Clarins – Joli Rouge Lipstick in Hot Pink

This is the third Joli Rouge lipstick from Clarins that I have tested, this one is Hot Pink*, and I have really liked the previous two.  I do think that Clarins keep it quite safe with their make-up range, with predictable – but very wearable – shades. The quality of their make-up products is good too and well worth the premium price. The Joli Rouge lipstick range contains ingredients that help plump and hydrate for full, soft and supple lips, this lipstick has a lovely creamy consistency and applies really nicely. It has a feint fruity strawberry scent which is really nice. Hot Pink is a bright raspberry pink colour and the texture is lovely and buttery and sheer. It applies to the lips so very easily – either with a lip brush or straight from the tube (so long as you have a steady hand!). The swatch image above clearly shows how glossy this colour is. I just love the sophisticated shiny silver bullet tubes too, they look...

Sinful Colors – Pinky Glitter Nail Colour

Sinful Colors – Pinky Glitter Nail Colour

I have just discovered Sinful Colors nail colours! I am currently wearing this Pinky Glitter on my fingers and it is such great value at just £1.99. I bought it online from Boots a couple of weeks ago, as I needed to spend an extra £2 to claim free delivery, so I randomly picked this and I’m so glad I did. The iridescent glitter coverage is really dense, much better than most other glitter polishes, and it only requires a couple of coats. The final texture is quite rough though due to the large amount of glitter, so I recommend using a clear top coat if you want your nails to look smooth and extra shiny. The colour lasts for quite a few days, and it’s not as difficult to remove as some other glitter polishes either. I did find the brush was a little bit drippy, but for £1.99 I think I can live with that! Sinful Colors Pinky Glitter is a very bright Barbie pink, almost a...
