NYC – Expert Last Lip Color in Creamy Caramel

NYC – Expert Last Lip Color in Creamy Caramel

I have to admit I’m not too clued up on budget make-up brand NYC. You can pick up their products in most Superdrug stores for a few pounds, and last year I reviewed their Appleicious Glossy Lip Balms which I really liked. I have to admit I’m a bit put off by NYC’s packaging, I think it looks quite cheap and there are other budget beauty brands who do packaging much better. I love nude and brown lipsticks (almost as much as I love pink lipsticks!) and this one is NYC’s offering – Expert Last Lip Color in Creamy Caramel. There are around 15 different shades of Expert Last Lip Color available, and at just £1.99 each you really can’t afford not to try one! Creamy Caramel is a nutty brown shade, with a creamy texture. It’s quite a pigmented shade but it’s definitely not matt as it has a subtle sheen to it. It has a lovely creamy soft luxurious feeling when it is on the lips and...

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation & The Fixer Face Spray

W7 – Captain Matte Foundation & The Fixer Face Spray

I’ve got another review of products from budget beauty specialists W7 for you today, it’s Captain Matte Foundation* and The Fixer Face Spray*. W7 was created in 2002 and now boasts over 500 products, unfortunately they’re not very often readily available on the high street and you may sometimes need to resort to Ebay or Amazon to track them down. I recently created a Neon Chevron French Mani look for Summer using two of W7’s nail polishes, and I was quite impressed with the products. Captain Matte Foundation – despite the cheesy name this is a rather good matte finish foundation. I was sent the True Beige shade which is far too dark for my pale skin, but in the interests of beauty blogging I did try it out and I loved it! It gives a perfect velvety matte finish and covers blemishes and uneven skintone without being too thick. I applied it using my Bobbi Brown Foundation Brush but I think it would also apply well using a...

e.l.f. – Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15

e.l.f. – Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15

I have recently been testing out a few goodies from New York budget make-up brand e.l.f. (stands for Eyes Lips Face), and I have been fairly impressed with this little tube of tinted moisturiser. I do have to say it is a VERY little tube, just 12g! But it’s a great size for tucking inside a make-up bag or handbag and it’s great value too. It comes in a cardboard blister pack (pictured below) which I kind of like, it gives it an accessible ‘available to everyone’ kind of feel. If you’re a regular reader of Beauty Best Friend you will know that I like to protect my face from the sun during the day and this tinted moisturiser contains SPF15 which is enough to protect your face from the average everyday sunshine. e.l.f. Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15 is available in a choice of 7 shades, I chose ‘Rosy Beige’ which is a tanned beige colour with a hint of rosy pink. It does have quite an orangey tan to...

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 14

MUA – Lipstick in Shade 14

This is the second MUA lipstick that I have tested (see the previous review here). MUA lipsticks are remarkable in the fact that they are fantastic value for money and cost just £1! Yes, you read that correctly, just £1. “But are they any good?” I hear you ask. Well keep reading… Shade 14 is a pale nude beige colour, it is surprisingly creamy, applies really nicely from the tube and has a lovely vanilla scent – it certainly doesn’t feel like a budget product. It is a fairly matt colour with no shimmer as you can see from the swatch image below. Makeup Academy Lipstick in Shade 14 is great given it’s price and I have been wearing it when I want to play down my lips and make a feature of my eyes. The sleek black tube wouldn’t look out of place in a cosmetic purse filled with Chanel and Mac products either. I have said before that it would be nice if MUA gave their lipstick colours a name rather...

Barry M – Lychee Gelly Nail Paint

Barry M – Lychee Gelly Nail Paint

I am currently wearing this Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee and I think it is just so classy! I bought it in my Barry M Nail Paint Haul a few weeks ago, but this is the first time I have tried it out. I chose Lychee as I thought it looked like the perfect base for nail art, but now that I have applied it I love it on its own too. The Gelly nail paint applies fairly well – in the image above I have applied two quite thick coats. It is also really glossy as it is in the Gelly collection and doesn’t really need a top coat, although you could apply one if you wanted extra shine and protection. The colour is a really creamy neutral beige colour – and it looks great with a tan. I think it will still look really nice and classy in Winter too, so not just a Summer colour. I also find that Barry M nail paints are...

MUA – Sheer Finish Lipgloss in ‘Lets Meet’

MUA – Sheer Finish Lipgloss in ‘Lets Meet’

A few weeks ago I purchased a haul of make-up from budget beauty brand MUA (Make Up Academy) and this week I have been testing their Sheer Finish Lipgloss in ‘Lets Meet’ which is a lovely natural nude beige colour. MUA Sheer Finish Lipgloss is a budget rival to Lancôme Juicy Tubes and other similar glosses. The little tubes fit nicely in a pocket or handbag and I love to use lipgloss for a sheer Summer make-up look. The MUA Sheer Finish Lipgloss squirts straight out of the end of the tube onto the lips, and you can then use the flattened nozzle to spread the lipgloss across your lips. This one has a lovely strawberry taste and is extremely glossy. ‘Lets Meet’ is a lovely natural nude beige colour, you can clearly see the colour on the swatch image below. What’s more, it’s not too runny either and it stays put, not bleeding over the lip line. When I apply lipgloss I like to just apply a really thin coat,...

Barry M Nail Paint Haul

Barry M Nail Paint Haul

I’m so excited! I’ve just picked up these three Barry M beauties from Boots and I can’t wait to start using them! I think Barry M is my favourite nail paint brand right now, there’s such a range of colours and effects to choose from and they’re such good value. Full reviews will come soon, but in the meantime here’s a sneak peek at the 3 colours… This one is from the Glitter Nail Paints collection and it’s called, unsurprisingly, Aqua Glitter. It is a clear varnish with a very fine aqua-coloured glitter in it. I’m thinking glitter tips and accent nails for this one! And it will be interesting to see how thick the glitter coverage will be. This is also from the Glitter Nail Paints collection, and is called ‘Pink Sapphire Glitter’. This is a clear varnish with hexagonal pink and silver glitter and ‘feather’ thin strips of silver glitter. I’m thinking accent nails for this one, or just all out Christmas party sparkle over a coat of bright pink...

Gold Sparkle Nail Art

Gold Sparkle Nail Art

Welcome to my first nail art post! I created this look using two of my favourite nail polishes – Chanel’s ‘Trapeze’ which is a pale browny-gold colour and Barry M’s sparkly ‘Yellow Topaz Glitter’. For me the Chanel polish is too pale to use on its own, but is perfect as a base for nail art, allowing other colours and glitters to stand out over the top of it. First I painted 2 coats of the Chanel ‘Trapeze’ over my nails and left to dry. Then I painted a coat of the Barry M ‘Yellow Topaz Glitter’ over the top about halfway down each nail. After this coat had dried I painted another coat of the Barry M, this time only about one third of the way down each nail, this way it gives a gentle graded effect to the glitter. I finished with a clear top coat which stops the glitter feeling rough, and gives a lovely sheen. This sparkly gold nail art look is subtle and glamorous and perfect...
