Monu – Illuminating Primer SPF 15

Monu – Illuminating Primer SPF 15

I was really impressed with the last Monu skincare product that I tried out, so I was really pleased to see this little sample of Illuminating Primer SPF 15 in October’s Glossybox. Monu is an ethical skincare brand, they are against animal testing and their products contain no synthetic perfumes or colours. This Illuminating Primer SPF 15 contains zinc oxide for sun protection, plus antioxidant vitamin E, and is paraben free. This primer can be worn alone as a day moisturiser, or under make-up as a primer. It contains illuminating, light reflecting particles to give the face a radiant and soft-focus finish. Monu Illuminating Primer SPF 15 is a fairly light cream with a gentle plant-y scent. It does need to be massaged in to the skin very well otherwise your face may appear slightly white until the lotion has completely sunk in, but I do really like it. I love that it contains SPF 15 and helps protect against UV damage as I never go out of the...

Perfume of the day – Katy Perry ‘Killer Queen’ Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Katy Perry ‘Killer Queen’ Eau de Parfum

Just a very quick review today of Katy Perry’s new Eau de Parfum ‘Killer Queen’. I received this phial of perfume in my October Glossybox and it’s only tiny so I haven’t really been wearing it much, but I did still want to review it as I had already mentioned it in my October Glossybox review post. Killer Queen perfume is described as ‘a charmingly playful yet lethally gorgeous floriental fragrance’ and contains scents of dark plum, wild berries, Red Velvet flower, Patchouli Heart and Liquid Praline. Personally for me all I can smell is the berries, it’s a nice warm fragrance that is very fruity, but I’m not getting the floral essences coming through. I would have to say that I find this fragrance OK but nothing too special, however I do appreciate that perfume is a really personal thing, and if you like this one you’re in for a treat as it’s very reasonably priced. I will be giving what is left in this phial to my...

Gamila Secret – Cleansing Bar

Gamila Secret – Cleansing Bar

This Cleansing Bar from Gamila Secret is possibly my favourite ever thing that has arrived in my Glossybox! It is a cute little 30g 100% natural bar that cleanses the skin whilst hydrating and encouraging the skin’s capacity for self-repair. In my opinion there aren’t enough cleansing bars around, I think people get them a bit confused with harsh bars of soap and so steer clear of them, but they are a great, quick and easy way of washing your face. Years ago I used to wash my face in the morning with Clinique Facial Soap, and I even had a period where I would use a Dove bar if I was in a rush. I love to use a cleansing bar in the morning as it’s so easy to do and then you can rinse your face with water and there’s no need for toners etc. To use, just run the bar under running warm water and then massage the lather into your skin, just like you would...

Glossybox – October 2013

Glossybox – October 2013

The theme of this month’s Glossybox is Dark Romance, with a focus on dark berry lips and illuminated skin, to help get recipients into the Halloween spirit. There’s a focus on skincare products this month which I am fairly pleased about, and another Glossybox magazine too which I enjoyed reading more than last month’s. So, now onto the products…. The first product is a small 20ml bottle of Illuminating Primer SPF 15 from natural skincare brand Monu. I received a moisturiser from Monu in one of the Glossyboxes over the Summer and I was really pleased with it, plus I love the fact that this primer contains sun protection SPF, so I am hoping that this product will be a good one. It can be used on its own for a flawless illuminating finish to skin, or as a base for make-up. A full size 50ml tube of Illuminating Primer SPF 15 from Monu is priced at £22. The next product is a small 20ml bottle of Moisturising Smoothie...

Perfume of the day – Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau de Parfum

Perfume of the day – Elizabeth Arden Untold Eau de Parfum

I got this miniature bottle of Elizabeth Arden’s Untold Eau de Parfum in my September Glossybox. Although it’s only a small sample I love the fact that it’s in a proper little glass bottle that was nestled inside a pretty box, not in one of those little glass phials. The design of the bottle is really pretty too, it really catches the light and would look nice on any dressing table. Elizabeth Arden describe Untold as ‘a luxurious and modern rendition of a sensuous floral composition’, for ‘the multi-faceted modern woman’. I would describe Untold as warm and gentle, it is floral without being too sweet and has a bit of mystery about it. Untold is probably not a fragrance I would have rushed out and bought if I had smelled it on someone else, but I do really like it and I will definitely be wearing it this Autumn. A full size bottle of Untold Eau de Parfum from Elizabeth Arden starts at £35 for 30ml, available from...

Eylure – Pre-Glued Lashes

Eylure – Pre-Glued Lashes

I am an occasional wearer of false lashes, restricting their use to special occasions, parties, etc. These latex-free Pre-Glued Lashes from Eylure came in my September Glossybox and I was interested to read that these are supposed to be very quick and easy to apply as they are already pre-glued so you don’t need to faff around applying your own glue and waiting for them to stick. These are the limited edition ‘Style 190’ Pre-Glued Lashes, a lash with fine sections in a short length for root volume and dark tipped sections for length. Firstly, when I took them out of the packet and unstuck them from the white plastic plate I found that they were VERY sticky and quite floppy. I am used to wearing false lashes with more of a rigid band, and these reminded me of little centipedes wriggling everywhere. I needed to trim them slightly as they were a bit too long for my lashline, and I managed to get them stuck to the scissors...

Pukka Ayurveda – Radiance Serum

Pukka Ayurveda – Radiance Serum

I received this little tube of Radiance Serum from Pukka Ayurveda in my July Glossybox, but it’s taken me a little while to get round to my review. Now before I go any further, I have just read that Pukka is discontinuing its Ayurveda skincare line, so if you’re a fan of their products stock up now! I wonder if Glossybox knew that this product would soon be discontinued when they supplied it in their July box? This revitalising Radiance Serum contains Aloe Vera and Manuka Honey to soothe and refresh the skin, and it is suitable for all skin types. Radiance Serum is a very runny, golden brown sticky lotion with a rather herby fragrance. You apply the serum to your face before your regular moisturiser, I have been applying this product at bedtime. Unlike other serums that I have tried this one makes my skin feel tight after applying, however it is not drying – when I wake up in the morning my skin feels like it...

Glossybox – September 2013

Glossybox – September 2013

Here’s what I got in my September Glossybox! Firstly I just have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Union Jack box! I’m not usually keen on the specially designed boxes but this one is really special and it would look great used as a storage box. Plus, this month’s Glossybox came with a little magazine too, which I think is a great idea. Although having read it the content didn’t particularly interest me, but I think Glossybox could do loads with magazine so I look forward to seeing future issues. So, onto the products… September’s Glossybox was titled ‘The London Edition’ and all the products were from UK brands, mainly well-known ones. I was a little bit disappointed with the products when I opened the box, but I think that is because there were no skincare products. The first product is a 5ml bottle of Untold perfume from Elizabeth Arden, described as ‘a luxurious and modern floral fragrance’. I’m not usually a big fan of perfume samples...
