Sleek – True Colour Lipstick in Vamp

I usually stick to the same pink and nude colours of lipstick so when I was given this Sleek True Colour Lipstick in Vamp by a friend I was a bit nervous of trying it. I have quite pale skin and I wasn’t too sure if this dark red would be too bold for me.
I’ve absolutely loved the other Sleek products that I’ve tried (you can read my reviews of their Blush By 3 in Pink Lemonade and iDivine Eyeshadow Palette in Storm). I think their packaging is great too, matt black plastic and beautifully printed boxes, every time I see a Sleek palette it always makes me want to see what is inside.
This True Colour Lipstick is no exception, it’s a matt black bullet tube with the Sleek logo standing out in gloss (you can just about make this out in the image above).
Vamp is a dark maroony red with a matt finish, and the name ‘Vamp’ describes it perfectly. As it is a matt lipstick it does drag the lips a little if you apply it straight from the tube so I would recommend applying it with a thin lip brush. Take your time to apply it neatly as any imperfections WILL stand out given that it’s such a bold colour. A good quality lip pencil is a must too to carefully line the lips first – I’m lacking a dark red pencil so I have been using Helen E Waterproof Protective Lip Liner in Shade 4 which isn’t quite dark enough.
The swatch image above shows clearly how matt the finish of this Sleek True Colour Lipstick is, there’s no gloss or shine at all. You could add a smear of clear lip gloss over the top if you prefer a shinier finish, but I think I quite like it with the dull matt texture.
This Vamp lipstick has actually really grown on me since I first tried it, it doesn’t stand out as much as I had feared it would, in fact I thin it suits me better than a lot of paler but more bright lipsticks. As it is so bold it should always be worn with a fairly nude ‘no-make-up’ face, but lots of black mascara to balance out the eyes.
Overall this is a great lipstick from a great brand and it’s affordable too. I just need to go out and purchase myself a matching lip liner pencil now…..
