REN – Satin Perfection BB Cream

I received this mini sample of REN Satin Perfection BB Cream in the Latest In Beauty British Beauty Blogger Dream Box that I purchased a few months ago. REN is a brand that I admire very much – their products contain only 100% plant and mineral derived actives and are free from synthetic ingredients – and my favourite skincare product of 2013 was REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask.
I still can’t really make my mind up about BB Creams, I find a lot of them give a shiny plasticky finish to the skin, plus as I have combination skin my nose and chin often find them too oily. However this REN Satin Perfection BB Cream gives a nice satin finish which I was really pleased about – my skin doesn’t look shiny at all – and then I finish it with a dusting of Clinique Blended Face Powder.
The product itself is a thick creamy foundation-like base and it slides onto the skin really easily. I’ve been applying it using my fingers and it’s blended really well, I think the thick balmy texture helps it to blend and not leave streaks or lines. The BB Cream has a nice orangey scent (similar to that of my favourite REN facemask) and it’s a really pleasant product to use.
REN Satin Perfection BB Cream comes in just one shade ‘Light-Medium’ and when you squeeze it out of the tube it looks a rather dark tan shade, but when you blend it into the skin the shade lightens and adapts to your natural skintone. The image above shows the BB Cream applied quite thickly to my wrist so you can see the shade – it looks a lot lighter than when it comes out of the tube. A bit more blending and it disappears completely!
I would say this BB Cream has a medium coverage – it easily covers light blemishes and uneven skintone marks, but if you’re wanting to disguise darker marks then I’d suggest you need something thicker with more coverage.
The only downside I’ve found to using REN Satin Perfection BB Cream is that it causes the mascara on my bottom lashes to smudge slightly under my eyes – this usually happens if I’m wearing an oily base (I think the oil starts to break down and melt the mascara) so I’m not sure which of the ingredients in the BB Cream are causing this to happen because it certainly doesn’t feel oily.
As with all of REN’s products it comes in simple packaging with the orange REN branding and is now packaged in a tube (it was previously in a pump dispenser).
So would I buy a full size REN Satin Perfection BB Cream? If it wasn’t for the problem with my mascara smudging then I probably would, yes. I don’t think it’s overly expensive for a BB Cream and I love the fact that it also contains SPF15 which is a must for skincare in my view.
Satin Perfection BB Cream is priced at £29 for 50ml and is available from REN. If you buy online from REN’s website you get 10% OFF you first order, free UK delivery and 2 free samples – what are you waiting for?!
