REN – Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask

REN is a brand that I have been meaning to try out for a while now, as I am gradually trying to replace my everyday skincare products with those containing natural ingredients and, more importantly, not containing parabens, silicones and other nasties. All REN skincare products contain ‘only 100% plant and mineral derived actives and are free from skin-unfriendly synthetic ingredients’.
REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask is really popular with bloggers, and I had read loads of great reviews before I tried it out. It has been created with four main functions:
- Removes dead skin cells to renew the complexion
- Skin looks brighter, healthier, more radiant
- Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Combats congestion, blackheads and blemishes
I have been using REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask once a week. The orange-coloured gel mask is very sticky, with a sweet fruity orange smell, in fact it reminds me very much of rubbing orange Calpol on my face (do they still do orange Calpol?)! Once on the face the mask should be left for 10 minutes – do not open the bathroom door to anyone during this time, a sticky orange face is not a good look!
REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask comes with a little muslin cloth which you then use to gently remove the mask after 10 minutes. The box says that you may experience some tingling whilst the mask is on – I didn’t experience this, but my face did feel a little bit itchy. I suspect that the tingling would be caused by the high amount of natural fruit acids in the mask, these are the ingredients which makes your skin shed its old cells but they can make skin sensitive (and more sensitive to sun). Therefore I would suggest you avoid this mask if you have sensitive skin, and ensure you apply a moisturiser that contains SPF after using it.
I was surprised to find that after removing the mask with the muslin cloth my skin has a surprisingly rough texture, but after moisturising and leaving for 15 minutes my skin feels smooth and refreshed. I suspect that the effects of this mask increase with using over time, I didn’t notice too much improvement in my skin after using it for the first time, but now after 4 weeks of use my skin is starting to look a lot fresher with a healthy glow (sitting in the garden in the sunshine has been helping with my healthy glow too!).
I think REN’s packaging looks quite serious, a bit like their products might be medicine or something similar, but I quite like this as REN take their approach to natural ingredients very seriously and the packaging helps to back up this outlook. I also love the fact that the mask comes with the muslin cloth, I like things that come with extras and the cloth is really soft and ideal for removing the mask (just make sure you keep it clean).
I would definitely recommend REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask and I will be continuing to use mine weekly to help keep my skin soft and glowing.
REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask is priced at £34 for 50ml. REN’s website also offers reward points with every purchase and a choice of samples free with every order…. so what are you waiting for?!
