Radical Skincare – Age Defying Exfoliating Pads & Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum

When I was recently asked if I wanted to try out these Radical Skincare products I’d never heard of the brand before so I was excited to try out something new. Radical Skincare is an anti-aging skincare brand, based around Trylacel™ technology – a radical breakthrough in technology that keeps antioxidant potency and performance in the product to deliver maximum benefits and results quickly.
Radical Skincare founders, sisters Liz and Rachel Edlich, have their photos on the Radical Skincare website and you would never guess that they are aged 50 and 45! I’d love to think that using these products could help me look as young as they do!
The products I was sent to try out are Age Defying Exfoliating Pads* & Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum*.
Radical Skincare Age Defying Exfoliating Pads – this is a large pot containing 60 exfoliating pads that have been soaked in a AHA and BHA-multifruit acid solution, the aim of the pads is to exfoliate the skin and promote cell turnover helping to look soft and healthy.
I had expected the pads themselves to be quite rough, similar to Origins Brighter By Nature Peel Pads which feel a bit like fine sandpaper, however the Radical Skincare pads are only slightly textured and all of the exfoliating is done via the fruit acids contained within them. I found the usage instructions on the box a bit confusing – it says to ‘apply’ one pad at night, but doesn’t explain how the pad should be used. Should it be rubbed over the skin, or patted, and how long for? And should the skin be rinsed afterwards or not? So I rubbed the pad gently over my face after cleansing for around 3 minutes then rinsed my face with cool water – as AHA acids can be quite harsh on the skin I didn’t want to leave the solution on my face overnight. I then followed by applying a thin layer of the Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum and then my usual nighttime moisturiser.
I really like the packaging of these Age Defying Exfoliating Pads, the tub is really large and looks quite premium and there is also a small information leaflet inside the box – although I would have liked a bit more information on there about how to use the product itself.
I have been using Radical Skincare Age Defying Exfoliating Pads for almost 2 weeks now, although I have only been using them every 2-3 nights as I don’t think skin needs an AHA exfoliating treatment every night. My skin does feel soft particularly on my cheeks and I am really enjoying using the pads. I would suggest you avoid this product if you have particularly sensitive skin, and also avoid the eye and lip area when using them, but other than that I think they’re really effective. They’re not cheap, but you do get 60 pads in a tub which should last you quite a while.
Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum – this serum aims to fight the 16 signs of aging (I’m not too sure what these 16 are, but I’m guessing it includes wrinkles, fine lines, loss of skin elasticity, uneven skintone, etc). The main benefit of this serum is that it increases skin hydration, which in turn keeps the skin looking plump and soft and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
The product itself is a tan coloured light gel serum with a light fragrance. I was surprised to see the colour, I had expected it to be white or clear, but I’ve learned over the years not to be put off by the colour of a product (remember my review of the black toothpaste?).
Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum should be applied to the face twice a day after cleansing, then followed with your usual moisturiser. It sinks into the skin fairly quickly and doesn’t feel sticky at all, and I have found that my skin does feel hydrated particularly in the morning when I wake up. I often experience dry patches on my forehead and these have been significantly reduced over the past 2 weeks of using this serum. Of course the results of anti-aging serums are best assessed after a good month or two of using, as the benefits increase over time, so it is a bit early to judge whether this product really has anti-aging properties, but my first impressions are positive.
The only drawback of this product is the price – it costs £125 for just 30ml! So while I think it’s a good product (and I have also read quite a few positive reviews of this serum on the internet, particularly when it is used around the eyes) I do think that there are similar hydrating serums out there for a lot less money.
I was pleasantly surprised with this duo of Radical Skincare anti-aging products, and I will definitely re-purchase the Age Defying Exfoliating Pads when they run out. I do think that the price of the Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum would make it prohibitive for a lot of people, but it you can afford it then it’s definitely worth a try… if not then stick to something a little cheaper.
Age Defying Exfoliating Pads are priced at £45 for 60 pads, available from Look Fantastic.
Advanced Peptide Antioxidant Serum is priced at £125ml for 30ml, but if you think this is a little expensive it’s also available as part of this Radical Taster Kit for just £76 from Look Fantastic.
