Olay – 2 in 1 Hydration Moisturisers

Olay is a well-trusted brand that seems to have been around forever… back in the day it was known as Oil Of Ulay – anyone else remember that? So I’m embarrassed to admit that these are the first of their products that I’ve actually ever tried! I think Olay used to have a bit of an old-fashioned reputation, the sort of skincare that your auntie might use… but not any more, over the past decade they’ve stepped up their game and offer products for every age group.
I’ve been trying out two of their new 2 in 1 Hydration moisturisers, promising 24 hour hydration, that are currently exclusive to Superdrug.
Olay 2 in 1 Hydration & Flawless Blur* – this 2 in 1 moisturising cream not only hydrates the skin but also contains light-diffusing particles that aim to smooth the look of fine lines and make skin look smoother. It also provides a smooth base for effective make-up application, reducing the need for a primer.
The cream itself is a thick, opaque white lotion with quite a strong fragrance. I used this product for a week and I have to say that it does a great job of moisturising the skin and it also works really well at preparing the skin for make-up – even on hot days my foundation stayed put, although I found it works best if your base has a matt finish and is not so good under a sheer foundation or tinted moisturiser.
Sadly I couldn’t really see the effects of the light-diffusing particles, but if you’re going to wear make-up over the moisturiser then this doesn’t really matter.
2 in 1 Hydration & Flawless Blur is aimed at those aged between 20 and 35. The ingredients include 3 different types of paraben, so if you try to avoid these then perhaps this isn’t the product for you – I’d love to see Olay replace the parabens with preservatives that are a bit more natural.
Overall a good moisturiser that doubles up as a primer for make-up.
Olay 2 in 1 Hydration & Radiant Glow* – this 2 in 1 moisturiser has similar benefits to the previous cream – hydration of the skin plus light reflecting particles – and it also contains SPF 15 to help protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun’s rays. The light reflecting particles in this product aim to revitalise your skin’s appearance and give you a radiant glow.
As with the previous cream I was impressed with the hydrating aspect of this cream, it helped my face feel soft and moisturised all day – even my dry forehead.
The product itself is another opaque white cream, slightly thicker than the previous one, and you only need one pump from the bottle to cover your whole face.
Sadly again I was unable to see the benefit of the light reflecting particles, but I do like the fact that this moisturiser contains SPF 15, I think it’s really important that your everyday moisturiser is doing its part to protect your face from the sun… no one wants premature wrinkles or sun spots.
2 in 1 Hydration & Radiant Glow is also aimed at those aged between 20 and 35, and the ingredients of this one include 3 different types of paraben too.
Overall I’d say this is a good moisturiser with sun protection, and both of these 2 in 1 Hydration moisturisers are fairly affordable too.
Olay 2 in 1 Hydration & Flawless Blur is priced at £9.99 for 50ml, exclusively available from Superdrug.
Olay 2 in 1 Hydration & Radiant Glow is priced at £9.99 for 75ml, exclusively available from Superdrug.
