My Little Box – May 2015

The April ‘My Little Dreambox’ was simply stunning (I reviewed it here) and so I was really looking forward to seeing what May would bring. The theme was ‘My Little Provence Box’ which I thought was a bit of a strange choice, but it all made more sense once I opened it up – think long Summer days and relaxing in floral fields.
If you’ve never heard of My Little Box it’s a quirky monthly beauty box that offers something a bit different, including their own range of make-up ‘My Little Beauty’, a proper readable mini magazine in each box, plus exciting little non-beauty extras – past examples have included jewellery, stationery and T-shirts.
So, what was inside My Little Provence Box in May….?
All but one of the beauty products inside May’s box were miniature samples from L’Occitane, and I think this was where the Provence theme came from as the French region is where L’Occitane originated in 1976.
They’re great little samples, although I do already have a couple of them from other beauty boxes and free gifts. I love the scent of most L’Occitane products, particularly their Verbena collection, and I just love the mini leaf-shaped Verbena soap and Verbena Body Lotion with their lemony fragrance.
The Roses et Reines Hand & Nail Cream smells a bit too artificial for me, although the metal tube is so cute and it’s a perfect size for carrying in a handbag.
The Mer & Mistral Fresh Shower Gel smells really fresh with an aquatic scent, a perfect shower gel for Summer.
The final beauty product was from My Little Box’s own beauty range, My Little Beauty, and was a brown eyeshadow crayon. I’ve not tried it yet but it looks like a great useful product, and it’s the first item that I’ve received from this brand that I’ve really been looking forward to try. I think the packaging of this brand, and the little illustrated leaves on the crayon, are really cute.
There was also a dress-up-doll style set of magnets – I used to love paper dress-up-dolls when I was young and this is a really cute set. Unfortunately we have a built-in fridge with a cupboard door on the front of it so I have nowhere to stick them. I wonder if fridge magnets have had their day with built-in kitchens being so popular nowadays?
There was also a DIY cuff bracelet inside, where you can weave the blue threads through the holes on the cuff to create your own pattern. I really love DIY and craft projects but this probably isn’t something I’d wear, so I’ll probably give it away. To be honest I was a bit disappointed with the non-beauty aspects of May’s My Little Box given that the previous 2 months’ had been so great.
The May magazine includes an interview with one of my favourite beauty bloggers, Really Ree, and it really is one of the best magazines to come free with a beauty box, with actual articles rather than just promoting the brands that are inside the box.
Overall I was a little bit disappointed by May’s My Little Provence Box, it feels a bit like they wanted to do a collaboration with L’Occitane and so thought up the theme around this. However I’m not sure that anything could quite live up to April’s My Little Dreambox….
