My Little Box – June 2015

Sorry this review of June’s My Little Box is a bit late, but I have an admission… I was so disappointed with the contents of this one that immediately after I’d opened it and seen what was inside I just put the lid back on and left it under my dressing table and didn’t open it again for a couple of weeks.
Sadly the last couple of boxes have been disappointing for me, ever since The April ‘My Little Dreambox’ simply blew me away (I reviewed it here). The theme of June’s box was ‘My Little French Riviera Box’, I’m thinking that the boxes that have themes based on a location have been the ones that I haven’t enjoyed as much (last month’s box theme was Provence).
If you’ve never heard of My Little Box it’s a quirky monthly beauty box that offers something a bit different, including their own range of make-up ‘My Little Beauty’, a proper readable mini magazine in each box, plus exciting little non-beauty extras – past examples have included jewellery, stationery and T-shirts.
So, what was inside My Little French Riviera Box in June….?
OK, so it wasn’t all bad, June’s box included a pair of sunglasses which I think is a great idea! Unfortunately they’re a bit plasticky and cheap and sadly the style really doesn’t suit me, but I will give them away to someone else who will hopefully love them.
The first two beauty products inside the My Little French Riviera Box were a body scrub from My Little Box’ very own cosmetic range My Little Beauty, and a Kerastase Smoothing Taming Milk for Unruly Hair.
I think the body scrub is a great idea, it’s salty and the smell reminds me of the sea, so it fits in with the theme perfectly. And whilst I DO have unruly hair I’m particularly disappointed with the Kerastase product, 3 of the last 4 My Little Boxes have included a similar hair product (another one of them was even from Kerastase) and I’m getting a bit fed up of them now. Let’s hope that the July box will steer clear of hair products completely…
My favourite beauty product from the June box is this ‘Loved By…’ nail polish in a pretty sea blue shade. I know a lot of people aren’t keen on receiving nail polishes in beauty boxes, I think it’s a great way to try new shades and I’m looking forward to trying this.
There were only 3 beauty products in June’s box, I’m guessing that the sunglasses took up a lot of their spend therefore the other products had to be kept to a minimum. I was very disappointed with the final non-beauty product too:
It’s a sort of fold-up raffia soft pot that can be used to hold a plant or pens… The colour fits the French Riviera theme but I’m not sure the product itself does. Not sure I’m going to be using this, it doesn’t feel up to the usual quality of My Little Box contents either.
As usual I was very pleased with the June magazine, it really is one of the best magazines to come free with a beauty box, with actual articles rather than just promoting the brands that are inside the box.
Sadly My Little French Riviera Box did not take me to my happy place…. I can only hope that July’s box will make up for it.
My Little Box is priced at £11 plus £3 P&P per month, to subscribe visit My Little Box.
