MUA – Lipstick in Shade 6

This is the fourth MUA lipstick that I have tested (you can read my review of MUA Lipstick in Shade 9 here). MUA lipsticks are remarkable in the fact that they are fantastic value for money and cost just £1! Yes, you read that correctly, just £1. “But are they any good?” I hear you ask. Well keep reading…
Shade 6 is a bright orangey-pink colour with a slight metallic tone, it is surprisingly creamy and applies really nicely from the tube – so much so that you could carefully apply it without lining your lips first with a lip pencil. It is a really dense pigmented colour as you can see from the swatch image below. It actually looks a bit more orangey in the tube, but applies much pinker.
Makeup Academy Lipstick in Shade 6 is great given it’s price tag but it does show up every single crease on the lips, so should only be worn on freshly exfoliated lips that have been treated with a good moisturiser. If you are over 40 or have particularly lined or dry lips then I would suggest you avoid this colour altogether and go for something more glossy.
It has quite a synthetic vanilla taste which may put you off if you prefer your lipsticks to be unflavoured, but it’s not unpleasant.
The sleek black tube wouldn’t look out of place in a cosmetic purse filled with Chanel and Mac products, and I do think that this lipstick is great value for just £1. I think it’s a shame that this lipstick only has a number and not a name, but I have noticed that MUA are starting to name their newer shades.
I like this lipstick and I think I will probably wear it fairly often. It does remind me a little bit of the lipstick shade that old ladies wore in the 1980s (along with blue eyeliner!) so it needs to be kept modern and paired with nude or smokey eyes to prevent it from looking dated.
UPDATE 19th Jan 2018 – since writing this review MUA have renamed and changed a lot of their lipstick shades. I can’t see Shade 6 available any more, but they still do a great range of budget lipsticks starting from just £1. Check out their huge range of lip products at Superdrug including Velvet Lip Lacquers at just £3.
