Max Factor – Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara Review

Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara

I was so excited when I saw that Max Factor was bringing out Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara! Imagine…. a waterproof mascara that lasts for 3 days… so I registered on the waiting list for 2 packs and they arrived last week. I have been a fan of Max Factor mascaras for a long time, I used Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara for a long time and my current favourite is Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara, so I couldn’t wait to try out this new product!

Max Factor describe the product, ‘Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara is Life Proof; Lasting Multiple days enabling you to live your life through sleeping, showering and rubbing. A brand new technological advancement that brings long wear lashes to cosmetics.’ They then goes on to explain, ‘Although the mascara will stay on your lashes over a 3 day period, during wear, especially sleeping and showering, you may experience some smudging under the eyes. This can be easily removed by dipping a cotton bud in the built in makeup remover and gently wiping away the smudges.’

Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara Review

Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara is fairly easy to apply once you get used to holding the long tube with the brush at one end (I’m so used to holding a small lid with a long brush it took me a little while to get used to this). The brush is nice and thick, very similar to the brush in Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie Mascara, and it applies the mascara nicely and evenly to the lashes. It gives a fairly natural look and doesn’t really thicken the lashes, but I did find that it gave my lashes quite a bit of curl.

The mascara does feel a little bit sticky after you have first applied it, but this is just due to the long-lasting 3 Day formula, and once it is completely dry it feels fine.

At the end of the first day I washed my face with cleanser, and I did experience quite a lot of smudges underneath my lower lashes, but these easily wiped away using the built-in remover. The remover is a creamy-gold coloured cream contained in one end of the tube – the end screws off so you can access the remover. I did find the remover difficult to get out, I had to dip a cotton bud into the end of the tube to take out a little of the remover.

After sleeping in the Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara for the first night I woke up with quite a lot of smudging underneath my lower lashes (think panda-effect!). I think I do rub my eyes in my sleep which was probably the reason for this, but again the smudges were easily removed using the built-in remover. By this time there was hardly any of the mascara left on my lower lashes, but there was still a fair bit left on my upper lashes. If I had been going out somewhere special I would have probably wanted to apply another coat to my lashes, but in the interests of the product review I decided not to apply any more to see how long it would last.

At the end of the second day I again washed my face with cleanser and removed the under-eye smudges again with the remover. After sleeping in the mascara for the second night the majority of what had been left of the mascara was under my eyes, and after removing this with the remover there was very little of the Lashfinity Mascara left on my lashes.

Have a look at the photos below to see how the Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara lasted over the 3 days…

Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara Days

I think overall Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara is a great idea, but it doesn’t last for 3 days and I experienced far too much smudging. It would be great for festivals, sleepovers or late night parties, when you don’t want to keep having to apply mascara. If you just wear mascara and no other eye make-up I’m sure the mascara would last much longer than it did with me, I think with me removing my other eye make-up at night with cleanser it did affect the longevity of the product. I’m not sure how great it would be for people with sensitive eyes though given the amount of smudging that happens overnight.

UPDATE 19th August 2017 – Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara has been discontinued, probably as it was rather disappointing. However I’d like to hope that Max Factor have kicked off a new trend and lots of other make-up brands might be developing their own version of a long-lasting mascara (fingers crossed for one that doesn’t smudge overnight!).

  1. Don’t waste your money on this dreadful product. I’m amassive fan (and user ) of max factor products – mascara, lippy, bronzer, eye pencil, blusher – would’nt use anything else, so really excited when the m f girl in Boots introduced me to the new 3 day mascara and I bought it straight away. Tried it as soon as I got Home and what a disappointment. I applied one thin layer as advised and it took forever to dry. I had to wipe off the smudges with the remover but then had to remove every scrap of remover with my usual remover, as itseoilinesscaused the mascara to smudge onto my eyelids. My eye ‘stuck together every time I blinked and felt really uncomfortable. I went out and felt a proper numpty when I looked in the mirror and saw my big panda eyes. The next morning was awful. Panda eyes and clumpy eyelashes. The mascara was a nightmare to get off but managed it eventually with lots of scrubbing with baby oil. I’ve tried

    • It’s awful that you’ve had such a bad experience with this product! I think 3 Day Mascara is a great idea in principle but I do think that it needs to be developed further before this is a perfect product. It’s too smudgy as it is currently. I would love to see some other brands jump on the bandwagon and develop a good alternative. Xx

    • Having used a brilliant 3 day mascara in the past… swim and smudge proof free… ‘Revlon colourstay 3 day mascara’I was devastated when they stopped production a few years ago. I eventually found one by Jemma Kidd (semi permanent lash tint) not quite as good as Revlon’s but it worked with very little smudging. Then they stopped producing it too. I do a lot of swimming, sailing, so searched the internet for an alternative and was thrilled to see Max Factor were showcasing their 3 day mascara…Ordered mine and…. Panda eyes!!!! The first morning I looked in the mirror it took me back to the 60s..perhaps cute on a 16yr old but not these days.

I’ve had longer, less smudge proof wear from a normal waterproof mascara and I’ve tried hundreds. Thus one smudges in the shower/ while sleeping/ if you rub your eyes; it clumps and although I persevered in desperation I ended up with panda eyes and a bit of this ‘gunk’ left on my top lashes after 2 days.

Who did they test this on???

Surely max factor can make something that works.

  2. I saw that your product was given such a good review in the Daily Mail paper, I decided it was for me. Bought some and applied it, found it difficult to apply as the brush seemed the wrong way round to what we are used to. Put on one coat and could see a definate longer looking lash, so pleased until I smudged the bottom lash and had to apply the remover. Big mistake! used a cotton bud as recommended and did not put any into my eye but on the side of my left eye, which left me with blurred vision for two hours. I felt very worried about what happened and my opinion is you should be able to buy products that are safe. would I recommend this product? Definitely NO.

    • Oh dear, another bad experience with Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara. Looks like Max Factor need to develop this product further before it really lives up to expectations. xx

  3. I am hopping mad, this is a con. sticky lashes for hours, black deposits round eyes every few minutes and the worst panda eyes ever and all I was doing was watching telly. This sounded perfect for holiday so I bought 2, 1 for a friend. The morning after trying it I had to remove the lot as my lashes were stuck together and it was the only way to unstick them. I want my money back.

    • Looks like a lot of people are having problems with smudging. Certainly doesn’t live up to expectations. xx

  4. I bought the Max Factor 3 Day Lashfinity and what a load of rubbish. 1) It ran when I had a shower therefore definitely NOT waterproof and 2) It only lasted 1 day therefore NOT 3 day.

I took it back to Boots and got a refund without any fuss at all.

    Thoroughly disappointed with this product.
