Max Factor – Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara Review

I was so excited when I saw that Max Factor was bringing out Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara! Imagine…. a waterproof mascara that lasts for 3 days… so I registered on the waiting list for 2 packs and they arrived last week. I have been a fan of Max Factor mascaras for a long time, I used Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara for a long time and my current favourite is Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara, so I couldn’t wait to try out this new product!
Max Factor describe the product, ‘Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara is Life Proof; Lasting Multiple days enabling you to live your life through sleeping, showering and rubbing. A brand new technological advancement that brings long wear lashes to cosmetics.’ They then goes on to explain, ‘Although the mascara will stay on your lashes over a 3 day period, during wear, especially sleeping and showering, you may experience some smudging under the eyes. This can be easily removed by dipping a cotton bud in the built in makeup remover and gently wiping away the smudges.’
Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara is fairly easy to apply once you get used to holding the long tube with the brush at one end (I’m so used to holding a small lid with a long brush it took me a little while to get used to this). The brush is nice and thick, very similar to the brush in Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie Mascara, and it applies the mascara nicely and evenly to the lashes. It gives a fairly natural look and doesn’t really thicken the lashes, but I did find that it gave my lashes quite a bit of curl.
The mascara does feel a little bit sticky after you have first applied it, but this is just due to the long-lasting 3 Day formula, and once it is completely dry it feels fine.
At the end of the first day I washed my face with cleanser, and I did experience quite a lot of smudges underneath my lower lashes, but these easily wiped away using the built-in remover. The remover is a creamy-gold coloured cream contained in one end of the tube – the end screws off so you can access the remover. I did find the remover difficult to get out, I had to dip a cotton bud into the end of the tube to take out a little of the remover.
After sleeping in the Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara for the first night I woke up with quite a lot of smudging underneath my lower lashes (think panda-effect!). I think I do rub my eyes in my sleep which was probably the reason for this, but again the smudges were easily removed using the built-in remover. By this time there was hardly any of the mascara left on my lower lashes, but there was still a fair bit left on my upper lashes. If I had been going out somewhere special I would have probably wanted to apply another coat to my lashes, but in the interests of the product review I decided not to apply any more to see how long it would last.
At the end of the second day I again washed my face with cleanser and removed the under-eye smudges again with the remover. After sleeping in the mascara for the second night the majority of what had been left of the mascara was under my eyes, and after removing this with the remover there was very little of the Lashfinity Mascara left on my lashes.
Have a look at the photos below to see how the Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara lasted over the 3 days…
I think overall Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara is a great idea, but it doesn’t last for 3 days and I experienced far too much smudging. It would be great for festivals, sleepovers or late night parties, when you don’t want to keep having to apply mascara. If you just wear mascara and no other eye make-up I’m sure the mascara would last much longer than it did with me, I think with me removing my other eye make-up at night with cleanser it did affect the longevity of the product. I’m not sure how great it would be for people with sensitive eyes though given the amount of smudging that happens overnight.
UPDATE 19th August 2017 – Max Factor Lashfinity 3 Day Mascara has been discontinued, probably as it was rather disappointing. However I’d like to hope that Max Factor have kicked off a new trend and lots of other make-up brands might be developing their own version of a long-lasting mascara (fingers crossed for one that doesn’t smudge overnight!).
