L’Occitane – Immortelle Divine Lotion

Today’s review is of a rather unique product – Immortelle Divine Lotion from French skincare experts L’Occitane. The aim of the lotion is to prepare skin in order for it to receive benefits from other daily skincare products – the Divine Lotion should be applied to the face before your usual moisturiser or serum and it will help the skin to absorb these other products and benefit from their nutrients. I’m pretty sure I’ve never come across a product with benefits like this before!
I have been applying the lotion to my face both morning and evening, in place of toner in between cleansing and moisturising. You can either apply it with a cotton wool pad and wipe it all over the face or with your fingers. The white cloudy lotion is extremely thin and runny, and is absorbed straight into a cotton wool pad so I have been using my fingers but beware it can be quite drippy and messy as the lotion is so liquid!
You could probably still use a toner before applying the L’Occitane Lotion but I don’t want to overload my skin with too many products as I am prone to blemishes. The lotion has a nice luxurious spicy scent which you can smell for quite a while after you’ve applied it to the skin.
I have to admit I’m a bit on the fence about L’Occitane Immortelle Divine Lotion. Only a few minutes after applying it, then following with my usual moisturiser, my skin feels quite tight and my forehead feels a bit dry. This could be the skin-smoothing and firming effect of the Divine Lotion but it’s not a sensation that I particularly enjoy and I sometimes end up having to apply extra moisturiser to compensate.
It’s not a cheap product either – although my bottle is a smaller sample size product the full size bottle is quite expensive- and it’s not a product that I would purchase again. There are other products in the Immortelle range, including Divine Eyes eye cream and I love the sound of the Divine Youth Oil anti-ageing natural facial oil.
Immortelle Divine Lotion is priced at £42 for 200ml, available from L’Occitane.
