Kipling Abela SN Handbag Review

I was lucky enough to be chosen by Kipling to be part of their IMAGINISTA #SheWearsKipling campaign and was sent this beautiful, classic Abela SN Small Shoulder Bag* in Black Metal colour.

Kipling Abela SN Handbag

The metallic Abela SN Small Shoulder Bag is a 2 litre size bag with easy-access pockets on the front and back that are fastened with a press stud. The interior of the Abela SN bag is lined with fawn coloured fabric and houses a small zip pocket where you can store your lipstick or keys. The canvas shoulder strap can be adjusted from 65cm to 140.5cm which means that the bag can be carried over the shoulder or across the body making it really useful for lots of different occasions – when going out for a meal, for instance, I use it as a shoulder bag, but when going shopping I extend the strap and wear it across my body keeping my hands free. The overall size of the Abela SN Small Shoulder Bag is 24.5 L x 13.5 H x 9.5 W cm – it’s not a big bag but there’s plenty of space inside for a purse, phone, keys, lipstick and other small essentials.

The image below is taken from the top of the Kipling bag, you can clearly see the front and back easy-access pockets.

As you can see from the image below, hanging from the front of the bag is a removable Kipling monkey mascot keyring – I could remove this to use it separately but I quite like having the little monkey hanging from my bag so I’m going to leave it there for the time being!

My bag came in the Black Metal colour, which is a brand new finish, part of Kipling’s new Autumn/Winter Smooth Nylon collection. It’s a shiny dark pewter metallic grey (fairly difficult to take photos of it as it reflects the light!). The Abela SN is also available in other shades – 4 original colours Black SN, pink/blue/grey Camo Print, bright blue Canard SN and Rusty Brown SN, and now 5 new Autumn/Winter finishes too.

I really love this little Kipling shoulder bag, it’s perfect for travelling with all of its little pockets, I’ll be taking it with me when I go to Amsterdam next month.

Monkeys make the world go round….

Although Kipling bags are owned by 35 million women in more than 60 countries you’d be forgiven for not knowing much about the Kipling brand. Kipling bags have been designed to look classic and smart, practical yet stylish. They’re not brash or showy, but they still look good. In my opinion, this is why the Kipling name isn’t better known in the UK – millions of women own and wear a Kipling bag, and we see them every day, but we just take them for granted as they fit into their surroundings so well!

The Kipling brand was developed in 1987 in Antwerp, Belgium, and was given its name after the well-travelled poet and novelist Rudyard Kipling. Each Kipling bag has a monkey mascot dangling from it, and I think this gives the bags a kind of fairytale feel to them. The brand’s logo features a monkey too.

As part of the IMAGINISTA #SheWearsKipling campaign Kipling are inviting the owners of their accessories to post photos of them and their bags on social media using the hashtag #SheWearsKipling. These might be photos taken in an unusual or beautiful place, fun photos, or just images showing how you use your Kipling bag.

I’ve been posting my #SheWearsKipling images on Twitter for the past couple of weeks, you can follow me at @BeautyBFriend if you’re not already following.

Here is a collage of some of my better images:
