How to wear your make-up when you’re wearing athleisure style

Athleisure is one of the hottest trends of the 21st century, and is showing no sign of losing steam as we go into the 2020’s! People love the styles you can create by blending performance sports styles with casual fashion, and it is a great way to have some alternatives to jeans when you want to dress down. It also means you can make the clothes you wear for the gym or for sports pull double duty and be fashionable purchases for your main wardrobe.
Wearing athleisure style is easy when it comes to the clothes. You can mix designer label pieces like Gucci sneakers with sports brand clothing, for example, or try wearing sporty items like bike shorts and sports bras as everyday street wear. More and more of the biggest sportswear brands are coming out with lines that are designed to be worn as street style or even for going out in, as opposed to just for training, and you only have to look at a luxury retailer like SSENSE to see that the major players in high end fashion like Gucci, Balenciaga, and Givenchy are all producing athleisure inspired pieces, like high fashion takes of trainers and dance wear. SSENSE has all of the latest lines, and is well worth looking at if you love luxury fashion and want an on-trend look!
But while it is easy to know what to wear, how can you complete your athleisure look with make-up?
A lot of people don’t wear any make-up when they work out, and so we just don’t tend to associate casual, sporty clothes with full, perfect make-up. Some bold statements can work, but if you just want a low maintenance everyday look that doesn’t jar with athleisure but isn’t going barefaced either, then go for minimal, natural looking make-up. Use a tinted moisturiser rather than a heavy base, and go for a sheer lip colour. Some mascara and perhaps some brow gel are really all you need to complete the look, but if you prefer a bit more, some subtle neutral eye-shadow to enhance the eye area and light blush and bronzer to give a healthy look can be good.
While athleisure may not look quite right with vampy, glam make-up, a funkier street style can work really well if you don’t like a minimal look or want to express yourself! Neon colours in eyeshadow are a fun way to complement the often bold designs and colours of athleisure wear, and bold, matte lips with black eyeliner can be another strong look.
As you can see, you can really go as light or as heavy as fits your personal taste and style, but really, to work well with the active, fun look of athleisure clothing you want to be aiming for either a healthy, fresh faced look, or a quirky, modern look, rather than the more mature styles you might pair with classic evening wear or work clothes.
