Helen E Lip Crayon in Sunset Product Review

Helen E is a relatively new UK makeup brand, founded by owner Helen Elowe in 1999. I purchased a couple of their lip crayons a few months ago and have already tried out Candy Floss, a sweet sugary pink colour – you can read that review here.

Today I have been trying out Helen E Lip Crayon in Sunset.

The Helen E Lip Crayon applies fairly nicely and easily to the lips and is quite soft. As this lip colour is in a pencil format there is no need for lip liners and it is really easy to draw the colour around the edge of the lip to give a straight edge. Unfortunately the consistency of the lip crayon lets this product down slightly, it is not creamy and glossy like a lot of the other chubby lip crayons available on the market today and it gives a drier, more matt finish. It also has a slightly unpleasant smell/taste. On the plus side there is no feathering or bleeding around the edge of the lip with this lip crayon. The Sunset colour itself is a shimmery reddy-gold colour. I actually quite like this colour and the consistency is nicer than the Candy Floss crayon that I tested previously.

Helen E’s simple packaging doesn’t give off an image of premium beauty and the lid of the lip crayon feels a little bit cheap. Having said that Helen E is a low-mid price range beauty brand – prices start at £10 for lipgloss, £8 for concealer sticks and £8 for eye pencils – so the products are all affordable. I would use this Sunset Lip Crayon again, but would add a little bit of clear gloss over the top as it’s not quite glossy enough for me on its own.

Helen E Lip Crayons are priced at £8 and can be purchased from Helen E. Helen E cosmetics can also be purchased from selected salons and Helen E makeup parties.
