Eve Lom Rescue Mask Review

I love a good face mask, and this Rescue Mask from Eve Lom has won In Style’s award for “Best Mask for Congested Skin” for seven consecutive years, so I was looking forward to trying it out.

The ingredients include Camphor, Almond and Honey-infused Kaolin Clay and Eve Lom describe it as ‘the perfect weekly deep clean to keep your complexion in radiant condition’. The Rescue Mask is recommended for stressed skin, for example blotchy skin, irritable break-outs, jet-lag or puffiness, so it’s perfect for a skin treat after the excesses of Christmas and New Year!

I assumed that this would be a creamy moisturising type of mask however when I squirted it out onto my fingers I found it was a thick clay-based mask – a creamy colour with rather large dark-coloured exfoliating grains in. It has an earthy scent with a menthol undertone that I found rather unpleasant (I think this is the scent of the Kaolin Clay coming through), and the smell stayed all the time I had the mask on. The mask should be left on for 15 to 20 minutes, and when I removed the mask using a damp facecloth I found that my skin did feel quite soft and smooth, and I was pleased to find that I didn’t get any spots the day after using the Rescue Mask, which I find sometimes happens after using other clay masks. You can also remove the dried mask by buffing gently with your fingers (I guess this is where the exfoliating grains come into play), it does remove quite easily this way as long as it is completely dry.

This mask is quite gentle, and although it does dry on the skin it doesn’t make the skin feel too tight which can sometimes happen with clay masks. It does go some way to drying up breakouts and oily patches too, but without leaving the skin feeling dry. I think the tube looks really nice and luxurious, I love the gold lettering.

Prices for Eve Lom Rescue Mask start at £35 for 50ml, available from Space NK.

  1. Used this last week did you have black bits in yours I did

    • Yes, it did have little black bits in which I was a bit surprised about! I think they help to exfoliate the skin if you remove the mask by buffing. xx
